Description

Down light housing for concrete ceiling
5 The present invention is related to a built-in housing for down light in concrete ceilings.
Installation of down lights in buildings is made easier by installing light housing of plastics in the concrete ceiling. The housing being adapted to receive sockets etc. for the down lights as well as necessary transformer and connections for pipes for electrical o cables.
It is an object to design such boxes to comprise only few parts and to ensure that installation is made simple and above all safe.
The above objects are covered by the installation box according to the present invention as defined by the features stated in the claims. s The drawing discloses in figure 1 in a perspective as seen from below, a light house according to the present invention, figure 2 discloses also in a perspective as seen from below a transformer box and figure 3 discloses an assembled installation box in a perspective as seen from below.
The installation box according to the present invention comprises a housing or o light box 1, a transformer box 2 and a lid 3. The light box 1 is provided with pipe sleeves or stubs 7 to receive pipes for electrical cables and connection to the electrical equipment to be installed within the light box 1. As such a light box 1 with or without additional parts may be used as an installation box for lights to be installed in the concrete ceiling. In cases where down lights are to be installed, however, transformers have to be connected 5 and the transformer box 2 as disclosed in figure 2 is adapted to receive transformer with necessary connections.
The light house preferably has a cylindric shape with a circular cross section. The cylindric wall comprises a cover 4 which easily can be released from the rest of the light box 1 by cutting out the cover 4, from a weakening groove or a cutting crack groove 8, for o example by a knife. The transformer box 2 comprises at one end an opening with a flange 5. The flange 5 comprises a slot 6 adapted to receive the edge of the wall of the light box 1 when sliding the transformer box 2 into the light box 1. A completely concrete tight connection hereby is achieved between the transformer box and the light box 1.
The connection between the transformer box and the light box 1 is thereafter 5 locked and sealed by a lid 3, which closes the lower edge of the light box 1 and the flange 5 of the transformer box 2. The lower edge 9 of the flange 5 thereby completing the lower edge of the light box 1 to a circle. When assembled the light box 1, the transformer box 2 and the lid 3 is sealed together with the pipes inserted in the pipe stubs 7 and the installation as such is completely waterproof.
The transformer box 2 is preferably designed with a bottom at an angle in relation 5 to the horizontal plane for draining possible water.
With the light box 1 and the transformer box 2 according to the present invention installation in the ceiling is made easier and correct installation is ensured. Assembling the two boxes to each other is made by vertically moving the transformer box 2 into the light box 1 and locking the two boxes to each other is made by rotating the lid 3. No io drilling or extra fitting is necessary for installation the light box 1 and the transformer box 2. Preferably the light box 1 comprises inside ribs for fastening the down lights in different positions.
When installed, the transformer box 2 may easily be replaced by releasing the lid 3 and pulling the transformer box 2 out of the light box 1.
