Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective helmet with a helmet shell, which in use at least partially surrounds the head of the wearer with the exception of the facial area, a chin guard which in use covers the lower parts of the face area of the wearer, and a visor, preferably pivotally mounted on the helmet shell, for covering the visual field opening between the helmet shell and the chin guard, the chin guard having two sections movable relative to one another, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a helmet is described with two chin strap sections which are movable relative to one another and which are displaceably mounted on the helmet shell.
- the opening of the helmet downwards but not much can be extended in a mere displacement of the chin guard sections in the direction of the helmet interior.
- no bias in either the open position, or in the closed position of the chin guard sections feasible.
- Such a helmet is also technically difficult to produce, and also allows no joint connection between the two chin guard sections. As a result, however, no synchronization of the chin guard sections can take place in their respective movement path.
- a protective helmet with two chin strap sections movable relative to each other is also in the DE 41 33 223 described.
- helmets are known in which the facial area is open (so-called “jet helmets”). Although these helmets offer a fresh air advantage, but it has a negative impact in rain and cold. In addition, face and chin are protected inadequately in an accident.
- Crosshelms are used especially in the sporty two-wheeler sector and also have a relatively large Visor opening on to ensure the important in physical exertion air supply.
- These helmets in contrast to jet helmets, have a sturdy chin guard to provide sufficient protection against the sometimes frequent falls.
- So-called folding or system helmets have a one-piece, solid chin guard on which the visor is usually molded.
- the chin guard can be folded upwards over a substantially horizontal pivot axis, so that setting up and setting down is facilitated.
- these helmet types make it easier to get into the helmet because the helmet is put on with the chin strap open, but since the chin guard pivots only horizontally downwards, they offer no additional accuracy of fit in the chin area. Helmets of this kind can not be put on or taken off with glasses.
- a helmet shell which, in use, approximately completely surrounds the head of the wearer with the exception of the face region, a chin guard which in use covers the lower parts of the face region of the wearer, and a visor which is preferably pivotably arranged on the helmet shell for covering the visual field opening between the helmet shell and the chin guard.
- the attachment to the head of the wearer via a chin strap which is stretched in the chin area of the wearer after putting on the helmet.
- Helmets of this kind are widespread, but have the disadvantage that putting on and taking off is impractical. In particular, in accidents, the difficult removability of the helmet can sometimes lead to dangerous situations, such as neck injuries.
- All mentioned helmet types also have the disadvantage that although always different helmet sizes are offered to select the best fitting model for different head sizes, but it turns out in practice that in this way only an optimal fit of the helmet can be achieved.
- the consumer is thus usually faced with the choice between a helmet that offers a good fit, but difficult to put on and off, or a helmet that is easy to put on and off, but only badly.
- the helmets of this type for fixing the helmet on the head of the wearer usually necessary chin strap anyway already inadequate grip, especially in the jaw and neck area, which thus has even worse effect in bad seat of the helmet.
- This disadvantage is particularly noticeable at higher speeds, where additional wind pressure forces act and can push up the helmet.
- due to the lack of completion between the helmet and the front neck area under the helmet entering air currents can affect the ride comfort, as they cause unpleasant wind noise and cold.
- Chin straps also have the disadvantage that they are sometimes difficult to handle, especially when wearing gloves. They are also difficult to operate with one hand.
- numerous closure systems are offered for the chin strap, whose operation sometimes causes difficulties in ignorance. In practice, it is actually shown that in emergency situations, for example, the opening of the chin strap locking systems is difficult and time-consuming for the medical staff.
- Claim 1 and 2 each relate to a protective helmet with a helmet shell, which in use the head of the Carrier with the exception of the facial area at least partially surrounds a chin guard, which spans in use the lower parts of the face region of the wearer, and a preferably pivotally mounted on the helmet shell visor for covering the visual field opening between the helmet shell and chin guard, wherein the chin guard two relatively movable sections having.
- each of the two chin guard sections is pivotally mounted on the helmet shell, and the pivotable arrangement of the chin guard sections on the helmet shell takes place in each case by means of a flexible plate member which connects the helmet shell with the respective chin strap section.
- the two chin strap sections are connected in their respective upper sections via a hinge connection.
- Both chin guard sections will generally be arranged to be pivotable in a manner such that each of the two chin guard sections pivots downwards and outwards about respective different axes so that the two chin guard sections move away from one another when opening. When closing the chin guard sections, they move towards each other again, which reduces the helmet opening.
- the chin guard sections structurally designed so that after putting on the helmet, the helmet opening is additionally reduced, thereby improving the grip, especially in the chin area significantly, as by the pivotability the chin guard sections a sufficiently large helmet opening for the raising and lowering of the helmet is guaranteed.
- the two chin guard sections each have, in their lower area, a chin guard surface projecting laterally in the direction of the helmet interior.
- the helmet opening is additionally reduced when closing the chin guard sections, whereby not only the grip is improved, but also better aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties of the helmet, as well as better protection against wind, dirt and cold are made possible, as will be explained in more detail.
- Claim 4 provides that the chin guard sections each have a fastening region at their end facing the helmet shell, and at their end facing away from the helmet shell each have a closing region with a closing surface, wherein the two closing surfaces are spaced apart in an opening position of the two chin strap sections, and in one abut each other by pivoting the two chin guard sections achievable closing position.
- the feature of claim 5 which is arranged as a result in the region of the closing surfaces, a closing mechanism which fixes the two chin strap sections in their closed position to each other spatially.
- the closing mechanism may be arranged in the region of the closing surfaces approximately at the downwardly oriented surfaces, and be designed as a buckle.
- Claim 6 provides that one of the closing surfaces has a groove, and the other closing surface has a tongue associated with the groove, wherein engage in the closed position tongue and groove.
- the two chin strap sections are prestressed into their open position according to claim 7, then the two chin strap sections automatically pivot into the open position approximately after the opening mechanism has been opened. If, for example, a flexible plate element is provided, then the prestressing can be achieved by the plate element being in its tension-free position in the open position, while it is set in tension during the closing movement.
- the fastening region of the two chin strap sections terminates in each case with a side surface facing the helmet shell, which abuts against a support surface of the helmet shell in the closed position of the chin strap sections and is spaced from the support surface in the opening position of the chin strap sections.
- the chin protection surface is provided on its inner side facing the helmet with a removable padding.
- the removability can be used as padding with different thicknesses, so that the helmet can be better matched to different head sizes. The seat of the helmet is thereby improved.
- the removable padding can also be cleaned more easily.
- Claim 11 provides that the side surface of the attachment region merges bluntly into the chin protection surface along its longitudinal extent via a termination surface, and the termination surface in the closed position of the chin guard sections is supported on a retaining shoulder of the helmet shell. As a result, forces acting frontally on the chin guard sections are better absorbed by the helmet.
- the two chin guard sections are overlapped in their closed position by the visor or lie against the lower edge of the visor, so the chin guard sections can be opened and closed independently of the visor.
- FIG. 1 is a side perspective view of an embodiment of a protective helmet according to the invention with a helmet shell 3 and chin strap sections 1a, 1b (in the Fig. 1 only the chin guard portion 1a is visible), the latter being in their closed position.
- the chin guard sections 1a, 1b are each fastened to the helmet shell 3 via a flexible plate element 2.
- the plate element 2 is made of a permanently flexible, break-resistant and tear-resistant material, such as POM (polyoxymethylene / polyacetal) or PC, and is in each case attached to the outer surface of the helmet shell 3 by an adhesive, rivet or clip connection.
- POM polyoxymethylene / polyacetal
- the plate elements 2 can also be countersunk in the helmet shell 3, so that a step-free outer surface results.
- a visor 4 is pivotally mounted on the helmet shell 3.
- a padding 12 is also provided as a rule.
- the plate elements 2 are unwound via the helmet shell 3 and the respective chin strap sections 1a, 1b in such a way that only parallel tension lines normal to the pivot axis are set during the pivoting movements of the chin strap sections 1a, 1b.
- deformations of the plate elements 2 that do not serve to guide the chin guard sections 1a, 1b are omitted.
- the material stress of the plate elements 2 decreases.
- the fasteners 5 between plate member 2 and helmet shell 3 and chin strap section 1a, 1b less loaded.
- the two chin guard portions 1a, 1b are biased in their open position. Such biasing can be achieved by the plate member 2 is in its tension-free position in the open position, while it is placed in the course of the closing movement in tension.
- a pivotable arrangement of the chin guard sections 1 a, 1 b on the helmet shell 3 conceivable, provided that they ensure pivotability of the chin guard sections 1 a, 1 b to increase the helmet opening in the course of the transition from the closed position to the open position, and secure attachment Guarantee chin strap sections 1a, 1b on the helmet shell 3.
- Both chin guard sections 1a, 1b will generally be arranged to be pivotable in a manner such that each of the two chin guard sections 1a, 1b pivots downwards and outwards on respective different axes during opening, so that the centers of gravity of the two chin bar sections 1a, 1b move away from one another during opening , When closing the chin guard sections 1a, 1b, they move toward each other again, whereby the helmet opening is reduced.
- the pivot axis defined by the helmet shell 3, chin guard sections 1a, 1b and plate element 3 is thus oriented obliquely with respect to each Fig. 1 it runs from the bottom left to the top right.
- the Fig. 2 shows a perspective side view of the embodiment of Fig. 1 in an open position of the chin bar sections 1a, 1b.
- the chin strap sections 1a, 1b structurally designed so that after putting on the helmet, the helmet opening is additionally reduced, thereby significantly improving the fit of the helmet, especially in the chin area, as by the pivoting of the chin guard sections a sufficiently large helmet opening for the raising and lowering of the helmet is guaranteed.
- the two chin guard sections 1a, 1b each have a chin protection surface 6 projecting laterally in the direction of the inside of the helmet in their lower region.
- the helmet opening is additionally reduced, since the chin guard surfaces 6 move towards one another, and in the closed position of the chin guard sections 1a, 1b finally lie flush against one another. This not only improves the fit of the helmet, but also achieves better aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties of the helmet, as well as better protection against wind, dirt and cold.
- the chin strap sections 1a, 1b are subdivided below into a fastening region 7, which is located at the end facing the helmet shell 3, and into a closing region 13, which is located at the end facing away from the helmet shell 3.

- Locking surface 8 can also still with a rubber surface seal (in the Fig. 1 to 9 not shown) to protect against the ingress of wind and moisture.
- the two chin guard sections 1a, 1b are also connected to each other in their respective upper sections of the closing regions 13 via a hinge connection 10.
- a hinge connection 10 As a result, there is always a synchronous closing of the two chin guard sections 1a, 1b, even if different closing pressure is exerted with the hands on the two chin bar sections 1a, 1b.
- the closing of the chin guard sections 1a, 1b can also be done with one hand as a result of this measure, since a movement of approximately the first chin strap section 1a to the second chin strap section 1b is transmitted by the hinge connection 10.
- a closing mechanism 11,14 which is the two Chinrest sections 1a, 1b spatially fixed in their closed position to each other.
- FIG. 2 is a possible embodiment of such a closing mechanism 11,14 indicated by means of a lever 14 which cooperates with a pin 11. Lifting the lever 14 releases the pin 11, and the two chin strap sections 1a, 1b pivot into their open position due to the bias of the plate element 2.
- a lever 14 can also be operated with one hand, which is particularly advantageous, and what should be taken into account in the selection of the locking mechanism 11,14.
- the articulated connection 10 should therefore be arranged in the respective upper sections of the closing areas 13, since preferably each of the two chin bar sections 1a, 1b should pivot downwardly and outwardly during opening, so that the two chin bar sections 1a, 1b move away from one another during opening.
- one of the closing surfaces 8 has a groove 9, and the other closing surface 8 has a groove 15 associated with the groove 9 (see, for example, FIG Fig. 4 ), wherein in the closed position groove 9 and spring 15 engage with each other.
- the two chin strap sections 1a, 1b can be better absorbed in the event of an impact and the load on the articulated connection 10 and the closing mechanism 11, 14 can be reduced.
- the proper functioning of the locking mechanism 11,14 in the event of an accident and the resulting stress on the chin guard sections 1a, 1b can be ensured.
- Fig. 3 shows a perspective frontal view of a protective helmet according to the invention of the embodiment of Fig. 1 in the closed position of the chin bar sections 1a, 1b.
- ventilation slots 23 can also be seen here, which ensure sufficient ventilation of the helmet interior and prevent fogging of the visor 4.

Furthermore, helmets are known in which the facial area is open (so-called "jet helmets"). Although these helmets offer a fresh air advantage, but it has a negative impact in rain and cold. In addition, face and chin are protected inadequately in an accident.
Crosshelms are used especially in the sporty two-wheeler sector and also have a relatively large Visor opening on to ensure the important in physical exertion air supply. These helmets, in contrast to jet helmets, have a sturdy chin guard to provide sufficient protection against the sometimes frequent falls.
Sogenannte Klapp- bzw. So-called folding or system helmets have a one-piece, solid chin guard on which the visor is usually molded. The chin guard can be folded upwards over a substantially horizontal pivot axis, so that setting up and setting down is facilitated. Although these helmet types make it easier to get into the helmet because the helmet is put on with the chin strap open, but since the chin guard pivots only horizontally downwards, they offer no additional accuracy of fit in the chin area. Helmets of this kind can not be put on or taken off with glasses.
According to a further embodiment variant, a helmet shell is provided which, in use, approximately completely surrounds the head of the wearer with the exception of the face region, a chin guard which in use covers the lower parts of the face region of the wearer, and a visor which is preferably pivotably arranged on the helmet shell for covering the visual field opening between the helmet shell and the chin guard. The attachment to the head of the wearer via a chin strap, which is stretched in the chin area of the wearer after putting on the helmet. Helmets of this kind (so-called "full-face helmets") are widespread, but have the disadvantage that putting on and taking off is impractical. In particular, in accidents, the difficult removability of the helmet can sometimes lead to dangerous situations, such as neck injuries.
All mentioned helmet types also have the disadvantage that although always different helmet sizes are offered to select the best fitting model for different head sizes, but it turns out in practice that in this way only an optimal fit of the helmet can be achieved. In practice, the consumer is thus usually faced with the choice between a helmet that offers a good fit, but difficult to put on and off, or a helmet that is easy to put on and off, but only badly. In addition, the helmets of this type for fixing the helmet on the head of the wearer usually necessary chin strap anyway already inadequate grip, especially in the jaw and neck area, which thus has even worse effect in bad seat of the helmet. This disadvantage is particularly noticeable at higher speeds, where additional wind pressure forces act and can push up the helmet. In addition, due to the lack of completion between the helmet and the front neck area under the helmet entering air currents can affect the ride comfort, as they cause unpleasant wind noise and cold.
Chin straps also have the disadvantage that they are sometimes difficult to handle, especially when wearing gloves. They are also difficult to operate with one hand. In addition, numerous closure systems are offered for the chin strap, whose operation sometimes causes difficulties in ignorance. In practice, it is actually shown that in emergency situations, for example, the opening of the chin strap locking systems is difficult and time-consuming for the medical staff.
It is therefore the object of the invention to realize a protective helmet which is easy to put on and detach, and offers better grip, especially in the jaw and neck area. As a result, especially a slipping of the helmet over the back of the head, for example in the course of accident situations, are avoided. In the usual expression for the field of the invention this is also referred to as "stripping behavior", which is thus to be improved in the protective helmet according to the invention. The invention should also allow the realization of better aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties, as well as better protection against wind, dirt and cold.
These objects are achieved by the features of
Due to the pivotable arrangement of the chin guard sections, it is initially possible to expand the helm opening prior to putting on and removing the helmet, whereby the placement and removal is facilitated. Both chin guard sections will generally be arranged to be pivotable in a manner such that each of the two chin guard sections pivots downwards and outwards about respective different axes so that the two chin guard sections move away from one another when opening. When closing the chin guard sections, they move towards each other again, which reduces the helmet opening.
However, it is also possible due to the inventive measures, the chin guard sections structurally designed so that after putting on the helmet, the helmet opening is additionally reduced, thereby improving the grip, especially in the chin area significantly, as by the pivotability the chin guard sections a sufficiently large helmet opening for the raising and lowering of the helmet is guaranteed. For example, according to
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the chin guard sections is proposed in
Advantageously, the feature of
If the two chin strap sections are prestressed into their open position according to
According to
According to
In addition, according to

In addition, the

The articulated

Thus, with the aid of the invention, a protective helmet is realized that is easy to place and detach, and offers better fit, especially in the jaw and neck area. As a result, especially the stripping behavior is optimized. The helmet of the invention also has excellent aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties and provides improved protection against wind, dirt and cold. According to the applicant's first tests, the helmet according to the invention proves to be the quietest full face helmet currently available.
