Der Aufbau von Kommunikationsverbindungen über diese WLAN-Schnittstelle ist jedoch an die Überprüfung einer Berechtigung der Diagnoseeinheit 1 gebunden. An den Diagnosetester 1 ist hierzu ferner drahtgebunden ein Fahrzeugschlüssellesegerät 3 angeschlossen, in welches ein dem Kraftfahrzeug 2 zugeordneter Fahrzeugschlüssel 4 eingelegt werden kann. Sofern ein Fahrzeugschlüssel 4 eingelegt ist, werden über die drahtgebundene Kommunikationsverbindung zwischen dem Fahrzeugschlüssellesegerät 3 und dem Diagnosetester 1 Berechtigungsdaten von dem Fahrzeugschlüssel 4 an den Diagnosetester 1 übertragen. Der Diagnosetester 1 weist anhand der empfangenen Be- rechtigungsdaten gegenüber dem Kraftfahrzeug 2 seine Berechtigung zur Kommunikation mit dem Kraftfahrzeug nach. Der zum Nachweis der Berechtigung erforderliche Informationsaustausch erfolgt - ebenso wie die anschließende Kommunikation - bereits über die WLAN-Schnittstelle. Fig. 2 zeigt eine bevorzugte Ausführungsform einer Vorrichtung zur Durchführung eines erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens der zweiten Variante. Die Diagnoseeinheit 1 ' ist zur drahtlosen Kommunikation mit dem Kraftfahrzeug 2' an ein Fahrzeugschlüs- selschreib-/lesegerät 3' angeschlossen. In dieses Fahrzeugschlüsselschreib- /lesegerät 3' wird ein dem Kraftfahrzeug 2' zugeordneter Fahrzeugschlüssel 4' eingelegt. Zwischen dem Fahrzeugschlüssel 4' und dem Kraftfahrzeug 2' ist - beispielsweise für die Entriegelung des Kraftfahrzeugs - eine Funkschnittstelle vorgesehen. Diese Funkschnittstelle wird im vorliegenden Fall zur Kommunikation der DiagnoseeinheifT mit dem Kraftfahrzeug 2' genutzt. Der fahrzeugseitige Teil der Funkschnittstelle ist hierzu in solcher Weise ausgeführt und mit einer Diagnoseschnittstelle des Kraftfahrzeugs 2' verbunden, dass ein Austausch diagnoserelevanter Daten über die Funkschnittstelle möglich wird. Der Fahrzeugschlüssel 4' und das Fahrzeugschlüsselschreib-/Iesegerät 3' fungieren gemeinsam als Gateway zwischen Kraftfahrzeug 2' und Diagnoseeinheit V. Vor dem Aufbau einer Kommunikati- onsverbindung zwischen Kraftfahrzeug 2' und Diagnoseeinheit 1 ' wird über ein Challenge-Response-Verfahren die Berechtigung des Fahrzeugschlüssels 4' anhand der in diesem gespeicherten Berechtigungsdaten geprüft. Eine erfolgreich ü- berprüfte Berechtigung des Fahrzeugschlüssels 4' wird als Berechtigung der Diagnoseeinheit 1 ' zum Aufbau einer Kommunikationsverbindung mit dem Kraftfahrzeug 2' gewertet.
