Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a carrier paper having a coating applied thereto, the coating serving to receive ink which is applied to a textile or a coating of a hard substrate in the thermal sublimation process, wherein the textile / coating is formed by a polyester-containing plastic, and the Carrier paper during transfer is in direct contact with the textile or the coating of the hard substrate.
The principle of the thermal sublimation method is to transfer a printed image applied to a base paper to a suitable substrate by means of high temperature.
The printing is done, for example, with specially provided thermal sublimation inks. These inks are applied to the coated carrier paper, for example by inkjet printing. On a flatbed or rotary press, the printed image is released at high temperature from the carrier paper, which is in direct contact with the textile or hard substrate. The pigment inks pass directly from the solid to the gaseous state (sublimation) and anchor themselves in the textile or hard substrate.
The sublimation process (vapor phase) is problematic in that separation of carrier paper and substrate can cause a ghosting produced by the residual heat. The use of commercially available carrier papers thus always brings a certain amount of production scrap during the transfer process, which is associated with high costs.
Although the adhesive sprays (consisting of styrene acrylate) available on the transfer market provide a remedy, they can only be partially applied and, in addition to additional costs, increase production costs. In addition, the increased color retention of styrene acrylate may require lower transfer rates.
Known synthetic thermoplastics such as polyvinyl acetate (PVAC), polyethylene (PE), polyamide (PA), polyester (PES), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyacrylonitrile (PAN) or polyacrylates have been used as additional in other transfer papers known in the market Coating applied, with an analog function as with the adhesive spray. However, these synthetic thermoplastics are qualitatively inferior, especially because of the disadvantageous high color retention capacity.
The possibility of incorporating synthetic polymers directly into the transfer coating also failed, since the ink retention capacity and the printability are greatly impaired by the thermoplastic polymer fraction required in the formulation.
Object of the present invention is to develop a carrier paper of the type mentioned so that with this a fogging can be sustainably avoided without affecting primary parameters such as printability, drying and transfer properties of the backing paper negative.
The object is achieved with a carrier paper of the type mentioned in that the coating of the carrier paper has a semi-synthetic polymer.
The semisynthetic polymer makes it possible to integrate the thermoplastic properties, thus the adhesion between the backing paper and textile or coating of the hard substrate in the sublimation process directly into the coating of the backing paper. There is a softening of the transfer coating at the high temperature. As a result, a slight bond between the backing paper and the substrate is ensured, whereby the fogging is avoided.
Particularly suitable semisynthetic polymers are considered to be ethylcellulose, in particular high etherification ethylcellulose, thermoplastic starch (TPS®), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), methylhydroxypropylcellulose (MHPC). These semisynthetic polymers fulfill the aforementioned properties very well. They come quite close to the polymer carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) often used in coatings of thermal transfer papers in their properties, since the quality-relevant parameters are not adversely affected. The disadvantage of CMC, however, is that it is here is not a thermoplastic. In transfer coatings, starch ethers, alginates and the like are also used.
It is considered to be particularly advantageous if the coating of the transfer paper to 5 to 60 wt .-%, in particular 5 to 25 wt .-% consists of the semisynthetic polymer.
The textile or the coating of the hard substrate is not completely made of polyester. The hard substrate is, for example, a metal or a ceramic. On the hard substrate, the coating is applied, for example in the manner of a varnish.
