- a pendulum for a watch movement comprises a wheel-shaped part comprising the serge (or rim), the arms and a certain arrangement of flyweights fixed on the strut of the balance which, by adjusting their positions, modify the unbalance and the moment of inertia of the pendulum.
- the usual frequencies of the watch oscillators range from 2.5 Hz to 5 Hz, in steps of 0.5 Hz so that a duration of one second corresponds to an integer number of alternations of the oscillator. A movement is therefore designed for a given frequency and the sprung balance assembly must have this frequency.
- the relevant parameter of the pendulum is the moment of inertia. As the arm of the pendulum is very small in the moment of inertia, it depends primarily on the dimensions (diameter and cross section) and the density of the serge and the elements that are linked to it.
- the designer of a watchmaking movement may wish to use a comparatively large diameter pendulum, for example for aesthetic reasons.
- Increasing the diameter without changing the moment of inertia can be done either by reducing the section of the serge, or by using a lower density material.
- the balance will have a smaller mass, which reduces the friction in the bearings, therefore the disturbances of the isochronism of the balance according to the positions (vertical and horizontal) of the movement.
- a serge of reduced section becomes too weak, especially if it has to wear adjustment weights.
- the present invention aims at making it possible to produce a balance-balance oscillator having a greater diameter than usual, limited to the outer contour of the serge for the same frequency, or having a higher frequency with the same dimensions as an oscillator usual, avoiding the aforementioned disadvantages.
- the invention also aims to provide a reduced mass balance in order to increase the chronometric performance of the watch that it equips for an inertia of the given balance.
- a rocker according to the invention is characterized in that the serge comprises inwardly directed pads, said serge and said studs being traversed by a threaded hole in which flyweights are screwed from the inside having a thread length such that their ends do not extend beyond the outer surface of the serge.
- the pads and the weights extend from the inner surface of the serge and are preferably evenly distributed within it. These pads may be located between the arms or in recesses provided at the junction between the arms and the serge.
- the balance 1 represented in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a balance wheel comprising a serge 3 and for example four arms 4 made in one piece with the serge 3.
- the arms 4 radiate from a pierced central part 5 which is driven on a balance shaft (not shown).
- the inner surface 3a of the serge 3 comprises pads 7, which in this example are evenly distributed between the arms 4. Note that any other distribution of the pads may be considered by the skilled person.
- These pads 7 may come from material with the serge 3, or be reported elements by any means known to those skilled in the art, for example by welding screwing etc.
- the studs may consider to make the studs and the serge in different materials, for example in CuBe for the serge and in titanium for the studs in order to further minimize the mass.
- the serge 3 and the studs 7 are traversed by a threaded hole 9.
- the threaded holes 9 are provided for the screwing, from the inside of the serge 3, weights 11, whose radial displacement indicated by the arrows will allow to adjust the unbalance and the moment of inertia.
- weights 11 are constituted by screws whose head preferably comprises a knurling 13 facilitating handling and whose threaded rod 15 has a length such that for the maximum inertia movement (screwing down) its end does not exceed the outer surface of the serge 3.
