Description

Packaging for long-stemmed cut flowers
The invention relates to packaging for long-stemmed cut flowers, comprising a container open at the top as well as a tube, the bottom of which is supported on the top of the container, which container and tube have hooking means for fixing the tube in place with respect to the container.
Packaging of this type is disclosed in EP-A 311 174. This known packaging has a container with an all-round ridge on which the tube is supported. For stabilisation, the tube has two slots into which in each case one lip of the container is inserted. The disadvantage of this known packaging is that the tube is very difficult to fit over the lips and can easily become detached from the container, despite the mutual join in the form of lips and slots. If the contents, such as a quantity of long-stemmed flowers, press against the tube, the tube walls can be pushed away from the lips at the slots, as a result of which the stability is lost. As a result the entire packaging can fall over, together with the flowers. This problem is exacerbated if the packaging is also used for display purposes, hi such cases the contents are removed from the container step by step. The flowers still in the packaging can then exert an asymmetric loading on the tube towards one side, as a result of which this can become detached as described above. For these reasons the lips are not used in practice. The aim of the invention is to provide packaging of the abovementioned type that does not have these disadvantages. Said aim is achieved in that the container has securing means at the top for securing the hooking means.
In particular, the container can have a channel that is open at the top over at least part of the periphery, the bottom of the tube being accommodated in the channel and the hooking means comprising a cut-out in the tube as well as a hook that at one end is accommodated in the cut-out in the tube and which at the other end interacts with the container.
With the packaging according to the invention the tube is stabilised against being pushed to one side because the bottom thereof extends into the all-round channel. There is then no need to worry that the tube will become detached, even if the contents of the packaging are at an angle.
The hooking means can be constructed in various ways. According to a first possibility the hook interacts with one of the walls of the channel. The hook can be formed in one piece with the outer wall of the channel, such that it is elastically movable. The tube is then secured against becoming detached by the other wall of the channel. As a result it is possible to prevent the hook damaging the relatively weak material of a tube made of, for example, cardboard. Preferably, the container and the tube have a square or rectangular cross-section, there being at least one hook on two opposing channel sections.
As an alternative the securing means can comprise a hook and a securing lip located opposite the hook.
According to a third possible embodiment the container and the tube can each have a cut-out, in which cut-out a common hook is fitted. The hook preferably consists of an elastic plastic. If there is one handle opening on each of two opposing sides of the container, the hooks can be fitted in such a handle opening.
Furthermore, provision can be made that the securing means comprise a channel that is open at the top and that extends around at least part of the periphery of the container, the bottom of the tube being accommodated in the channel. With this arrangement the hooking means can comprise a cut-out in the tube as well as a hook that at one end is accommodated in the cut-out in the tube and that at the other end interacts with the container.
Reference is made to the packaging disclosed in NL-A 1012164. With this known packaging the container has a channel that is open at the top, in which a tube can be accommodated. However, this tube is not secured with respect to the container. However, the flowers are stabilised per se in that they are suspended in a separate interior. Consequently, the risk that the flowers start to lean against the tube at an angle is appreciably less with this known packaging. The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to a few illustrative embodiments shown in the figures.
Figure 1 shows a perspective, partially exposed view of the packaging according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a cross-section according to II-II in Figure 1. Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of the packaging according to the invention.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 show further variants of a hook connection. The packaging according to the invention shown in Figure 1 comprises a container indicated in its entirety by 1 and a tube 2 that is placed on the container 1. As shown in the cross-section in Figure 2, the container has an all-round channel 3 at the top, in which the tube 2 is accommodated.
In order to protect the tube 2 against unintentional detachment from the container 1, the hooking means indicated in their entirety by 4 are provided. There are also such hooking means 4 on the opposing channel parts. These hooking means comprise a hook 5 that is formed in one piece with the outer wall 19 of the channel 3, as well as an opening 6 in the tube. Below the hook 5 the wall 19 of the channel 3 is provided with a cut-out 7, such that the hook 5 can easily move elastically outwards and can then spring back.
Use is made of this when fitting the tube 2. This is pushed into the channel 3. During this operation the tube slides along the inside wall 20 of the channel 3, such that the hooks
5 are pushed away and then snap back into the cut-outs 6. The tube 2 is thus actually protected against unintentional detachment from the container 1. The inside wall 20 acts as securing means against detachment of the tube.
In the variant in Figure 3 a tube 2 has likewise been placed in the channel 3, which is open at the top, of the container 1. The container 1 has handles 8, which are used for fixing the hooks 9.
Holes 10 have been made in the tube 2. The hooks 9 have a bottom retaining edge 11 and two top hooks 12. The retaining edge 11 is fitted on the upper boundary of the handle 8, whilst the hooks 12 are hooked into the openings 10. Protection of the tube 2 against unintentional detachment from the container 1 is obtained in this way.
The tube 2 consists of two sections 13, 14 which are joined to one another along their preferential tear line 15. A better view of the contents of the packaging is obtained by removing the top section 14 of the tube by tearing along the preferential tear line 15.
Alternatives for the hook in Figure 2, i.e. the hooks 5', 5" and 5'", are also shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6.
The variant in Figure 4 relates to a hook 5' made of a metal, which is fixed by means of a rivet 16 to the outer wall 19 of the channel 3. The variant in Figure 5 has a hook 5" that is flexibly joined to the bottom of the channel 3 via a shank 17. The shank 17 is separate from the remainder of the outside wall 6 of the channel 3. In the variant in Figure 6 a hook 5'" is shown with a flexible shank 18 that is on the outside of the wall 19 of the channel 3.
