Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a rolling shutter of the type sliding in a guide and with parallel hinged slats, in particular capable of opposing and resisting to a smashing action, caused by the wind or by an intrusion attempt.
  • rolling shutters exist that provide an articulated rolling wall that protects an interior from the outside and comprises a plurality of parallel boards or slats pivotally connected to each other in turn about a long edge and have the respective ends slidingly engaging with two lateral guides.
  • opening the rolling shutter normally, it is wound on a drum or on distanced discs, mounted on a horizontal shaft located above and wheeled manual or in a motor-driven way.
  • Another problem is the shifting between two successive slats, by a longitudinal relative movement of two slats that are free of moving along a longitudinal lock-hinge formed by a positive engagement between two matching edges of two adjacent slats. Such a shifting would cause the slats to slant and to force and jam against the guide.
  • This problem has been solved using lateral slat stops arranged at slats ends, normally one every two slats.
  • Each slat stop is a shaped sheet portion integrally connected to the slat having two parts protruding from the end of the slat and that cover the ends of the longitudinal lock-hinge between two adjacent slats, in order to block any shifting between adjacent slats.
  • Another feature of the invention is to provide a rolling shutter having a plurality of identical slat stops with consequent savings in production and installation.
  • a rolling shutter having a plurality of parallel slats pivotally connected in turn, said slats having ends sliding in two guides parallel to each other and orthogonal to said slats, for allowing all the rolling shutter to move along said guide, characterised in that it provides slat stops suitable for engaging with the ends of said slats, each slat stop comprising:
  • said guide has a wall from which two wings extend forming together substantially a C, from one of said wings a guiding profile extending oriented inwardly and towards the other wing, and suitable for positively and slidingly engaging with said embracing portion.
  • said guiding profile is in use perpendicular to the plane of the rolling shutter.
  • said embracing portion comprises a slot parallel to said guide and said guiding profile is suitable for positively and slidingly engaging with said channel, at the same time blocking a lateral movement of said slat with respect to said guide.
  • said embracing portion comprises a slot parallel to said guide, said slot being selected from the group comprised of:
  • each locking portion extends for a length less than the length of the cross section of a slat, in a way suitable for engaging with a first end of said cross section and leaving free a second end of said cross section.
  • each locking portion is capable of blocking a relative lateral movement between a slat on which the slat stop is connected and an adjacent slat.
  • said locking portion has a cross section substantially arch-shaped, following the shape of the cross section of said slat. This shape assists the winding step of said rolling shutter about said drum when opening/closing the rolling shutter.
  • said slat stop has a thickness larger than the thickness of said slats in order to avoid a contact between different slats when the rolling shutter is wound and reducing the wear.
  • each slat has a curved profile and said fastening portion comprises a curved plate portion that follows the curvature of said slat and is suitable for being applied to said slat.
  • said fastening portion is connected to each slat by a fixed connection selected from the group comprised of:
  • a slat stop is provided for rolling shutters as above defined.
  • a guide is provided for rolling shutters as above defined.
  • a rolling shutter obtained according to the prior art has a plurality of slats 10 pivotally connected to each other and sliding between two lateral guides 15.
  • Each slat 10 is connected to one or two adjacent slats by means of slots 20 and 21 lock-shaped and positively engaging with each other, shown in figure 2, obtained on both the longitudinal sides of each slat 10, in order to constrain it pivotally but leaving it free of sliding.
  • the rolling shutter has also a plurality of hooks 11 mounted in pairs on some slats 10 at equal distances, for example each two or four slats. The hooks 11 are connected to the slats 10 by means of rivets 13.
  • Such hooks 11 remain slidingly engaged along a corresponding longitudinal hooking wing formed on the guide 15 and parallel to the plane of the rolling shutter.
  • the hooks 11 have the task of blocking a dislocation of the rolling shutter from the guide when it is forced by a smashing action perpendicular to the rolling shutter same, for example by the wind or an intrusion attempt.
  • the existing rolling shutters provide also slat stops 12, applied in pairs at the end of some other slats, suitable for blocking a relative shifting movement between adjacent slats.
  • a slat stops 12 extend for all the length of the cross section of the slat to which they are applied, overlapping the ends of the slat section and then blocking a relative movement between a slat and other two slats adjacent to it, one for each end of the slat same.
  • the existing slat stops cannot be arranged only on a few slats that form the rolling shutter, but they have to be applied in an alternated way, i.e. one each two slats.
  • the slat stop 12 are connected to the relative slats 10 by means of rivets 14.
  • the hooks 11 can be applied only on the slats where the slat stops 12 are not provided. Furthermore, when the rolling shutter is wound on a drum located above the rolling shutter same, the hooks 11 can cause problems of geometric interference among them and interference with the slat stop 12. For this reason, the hooks 11 can be mounted only in a limited number and, in particular, not more than one every four slats. This causes high smashing forces on the rolling shutter, since each couple of hooks 11 must bear a very high smashing action, in particular the resultant force of the surface of four slats.
  • each slat 10 comprises at the ends a slat stop 1 according to the invention.
  • the slat stop 1 has a slot 18 suitable for engaging with an inner guiding profile 17 of a vertical guide 16, blocking any dislocation of the rolling shutter from the guide 16 that would be caused by a smashing force acting on the rolling shutter same.
  • a guide 16 for rolling shutters having a wall from which two wings extend creating together substantially a C, from one of said wings a guiding profile extends 17 oriented inwardly and towards the other wing.
  • the guiding profile 17 is perpendicular to the plane of the rolling shutter.
  • the slat stop 1 blocks any sliding between a slat and another adjacent slat, overlapping only one lock-hinge of each slat and leaving free the other lock-hinge. This feature allows fastening a couple of slat stops 1 on each slat 10 and then of distributing the load in a more homogeneous way, bearing on each slat stop 1 for a fraction of the resultant force.
  • a fastening portion 22 is visible of the above described slat stop 1 for fixing to the relative slat 10, by means of rivets 23. It is shown how the slots 18 of each slat stop 1 remain operatively aligned for sliding correctly along the guiding profile 17 of figure 3.
  • FIG 5 are shown in a side view, at the ends of two slats 10 pivotally connected to each other, respective slat stops 1 according to the invention. With a dotted the bottom of the slot 18 is indicated, and always with dotted line the fastening element 22, the rivets 23 and the slats profiled section 10 are indicated.
  • Figure 6 shows a perspective view of a slat stop 1 according to the invention. Then an embracing sliding portion 30 is shown suitable for blocking a lateral movement of the rolling shutter; in fact slot 18 is suitable for slidingly engaging with wing 17 shown in figure 3. Furthermore, a locking portion 31 is present, suitable for blocking a relative movement between the slat to which the slat stop is mounted 1 and an adjacent slat.
  • the slat stop 1 comprises also a fastening portion 22 having the shape of a curved plate portion with cross section that follows the cross section of the slats. Two holes 26 are provided suitable for fixing the slat stop to the slat by rivets.
  • Figure 7 shows a cross section made with a horizontal plane of an alternative exemplary embodiment of a rolling shutter according to the invention, having a slat stop 40 with a slot 43 oriented outwards from the rolling shutter with respect to the wall 45, said slat stop 40 being free of sliding along a guiding profile 42 provided along a guide 41.
  • Figure 8 shows a perspective view of the outer edge of a rolling shutter consisting of slats 10 having at the end slat stops 40 with a slot 43 oriented outwards and suitable for sliding along the guiding profile 42 described in figure 7.
  • the slat stop can be made of light material, for example plastic material, or composite material.
  • the slots 18 have been shown on two different faces of the slat stop 1, respectively from the outer side and from the inner side of the rolling shutter. This does not mean that it can be provided at both sides. In this case, the guide 16 would have two parallel profiles 17.
  • the guide 17 has been shown as a C-shaped guide with a inner guiding profile 17 orthogonal to the rolling shutter. This does not mean that it may have a different cross section, for example an I-shaped cross section, a T-shaped cross section, etc.
