Abstract

A holder (1; 11) for cable trays (14) of the kind which is comprised of longitudinal (15) and transversal (16) metal wires includes a first wall (3) and at least one second wall (4, 4'; 12, 12'), wherein a number of slots (5), that are distributed along the length of the holder, each having a width that allows reception of one of said metal wires, are arranged so that each slot (5) is essentially parallel with and positioned below an engagement portion (6, 8) of the first. wall and is limited by a slot edge (7) in said second wall or walls, and by a bottom (7'). At least one engagement portion (8) is in a distal region provided with a cut-out for forming a locking tongue (9), which has an extension at an angle against the direction of an associated slot (5'), as seen from the bottom of the slot (7'), and which is bendable inwardly towards the associated slot (5') for locking engagement with the aid of a locking edge (10) against a metal wire (17) which is inserted into the slot (5').

Description

HOLDER FOR CABLE TRAYS
Field of the invention
This invention concerns a holder for cable trays according to the preamble of claim 1.
Background of the invention
From EP Bl 0741828 such a holder for cable trays is previously known, wherein fastening of the cable trays is ensured through downward folding of a metal tongue around a respective metal wire to be secured, said tongue comprising a part of the first wall .
A problem with the known solution is that a holding force which is exerted of such a downward folded locking tongue against a co-operating metal wire is limited by such parameters as material thickness of the holder, the width of the tongue and the flexibility of the material in the tongue.
In order to allow effective downward bending of the tongues relatively weak tongues are presupposed, which counter-act a secure fastening.
Aim and most important features of the invention It is an aim of the invention to provide a holder as above, wherein the drawbacks of the background art are avoided.
This aim is achieved according to the invention through the features of claim 1.
Hereby it is achieved, on the one hand that the locking tongue can be formed and dimensioned for its task, namely to lock a cable tray in the holder, without this having to affect the dimensioning of the holder itself with respect to material thickness, width of the holder etc.
According to the invention, rigid locking is achieved, since the locking engagement between the locking tongue and the metal wire is provided through the contact of a locking edge on the former against the latter.
Further advantages and features of the invention are subject of the dependant claims and are apparent from the following description of an embodiment.
Brief description of drawings
The invention will now .be described in more detail at the background of an embodiment and with reference to the annexed drawings, wherein:
Fig. la, b shows a holder according to the invention formed as a pendulum holder,
Fig. 2a, b shows a holder according to the invention formed as a bracket,
Fig. 3 shows the holder according to Fig. 1 in engagement with a cable tray intended to be supported, and
Fig. 4 shows a detail of Fig. 3 in an enlarged scale.
Description of embodiment In Fig. la a pendulum holder 1 is shown, that is the holder is intended for being suspended from for example a ceiling via a not shown supporting means, which is fastened, for example in the square hole 2, centrally on the holder 1. The holder 1 has a first wall 3 and two second walls 4 and 4' extending at right angle against the first wall 3, for forming an upside-down turned U-profile in use.
Distributed along its length there are arranged recesses going out from the first wall 3, which go over to slots 5, each having a width for reception of a metal wire of a cable tray. A remaining portion of the first wall above each slot 5 comprises an engagement portion 6, which together with a slot edge 7 directed against the engagement portion 6 in &ach second wall as well as a slot bottom 7' defines the slot 5.
On Fig. la, the outermost engagement portion 8 is for-med with a cut-out locking tongue 9, having a general direction at an- angle to the general extension of the engagement por ion 8, as seen from its bottom 1 ' . The locking tongue 9 is bend-able in towards the associated slot 5' for locking engagement with a metal wire positioned in this slot which will be desc ribed in more detail below.
Fig. lb shows the pendulum holder 1 in a perspective from below for the sake of increased clarity.
Fig.2a shows an alternative holder 11 for cable trays , which holder is in this case formed as a bracket for fasten ing to a wall, a pole or the like. For this purpose the holder 11 displays a conventional bracket shape, that is having a (here enforced) , power receiving side 12 and a fastening po tion 13 for contact against said wall or pole.
In the shown embodiment the bracket 11 is manufactured in one single piece having bends between the first wall 3 an«d two second walls 12 and 12' (analogous with the pendulum bolde in Fig. la, b) and with a bend between the second wall 12 and the fastening portion 13.
The arrangement for co-operation with a cable tray to be secured is identical to the one that is described in connection with Fig. la and is therefore not described again here .
Fig. 2b shows the bracket 11 in a perspective view from below for the sake of increased clarity.
Fig. 3 shows the pendulum holder 1 in Fig. la in a using position, however, without a support means in the form of a suspension device for suspension from a ceiling or the like.
The cable tray 14 intended to be secured is of the previously known kind which consists of a number of longitudinal 15 and transversal 16 metal wires, which are joined to each other in respective cross points. The transversal metal wires 16 are, at their end regions, bent upwardly for forming an essentially shallow U-shaped chute profile in section.
From Fig. 3 is shown that the longitudinal metal wires 15 are inserted into a respective slot 5 below an engagement portion 6. The outermost metal wire (to the left in Fig. 3), of the ones that are in the same plane, co-operates with the outermost slot 5' and is fastened by a downwardly bent locking tongue 9.
In Fig. 4, the area for fastening is shown in an enlarged scale, wherein the metal wire 17 thus is in co-operation with the bent-down locking tongue 9, which is bent down along a bending line 18, which is essentially at a right angle to the extension of the metal wire 17.
The engagement edge 10 forms an acute angle, which in this case is the same as the acute angle α limiting the locking tongue, with the axis of the metal wire 17, wherein by bending down the locking tongue, this engagement edge 10 will come into engagement with the metal wire 17.
Preferably the angle is chosen so small that the engagement between the locking tongue 9 and the metal wire 17 will become self-locking, that is that possible vibrations and other movements of the metal wire 17 do not cause the locking tongue 9 to bend back to an initial position where it comes in the • same plane as the first wall 3. Possibly the edge of the locking tongue which engages the metal thread is provided with a friction increasing element such as grooves for increased engagement security.
In order to facilitate the bending process and to control the bending with respect of the positioning of the bending line 18 there are cut-outs 19 in the root area of the locking tongue 9 from each side serving as bending initiators.
The invention may be modified within the scope of the claims and the holder can thus be formed otherwise than what is shown on the drawings. For example, the number of slots can vary.
Locking tongues corresponding to the locking tongue 9 on the figures may be present on plural engagement portions on one and the same holder. Locking tongues may be formed differently, possibly with otherwise disposed angling and bending line.
Bending initiators could be formed otherwise with for example an impression in the material, one or more holes etc.
The shape of the first, as well as the second walls, may be made differently. Possibly it could be sufficient with one single second wall in certain applications.
It is preferred that the holder is formed in one piece with holes and bends, but it is not excluded that it is manufactured from plural joint parts, whereby for example the walls are separate parts from the start and, in case of a bracket holder, the fastening arrangement is formed in another way.

Claims

1. Holder (1; 11) for cable trays (14) of the kind which is comprised of longitudinal (15) and transversal (16) metal wires, wherein the holder (1; 11) includes a first wall (3) and at least one second wall (4, A ' } 12, 12') at an angle to the first wall, wherein a number of slots (5) , that are distributed along the length of the holder, each having a width that allows reception of one of said metal wires, are arranged so that each slot (5) is essentially parallel with and positioned below an engagement portion (6, 8) of the first wall and is limited by a slot edge (7) that is directed against it in said second wall or walls, and by a bottom { ! ' ) , characterized in that at least one engagement portion (8) in. a distal region is provided with a cut-out for forming a locking tongue (9) , which has an extension at an angle against the direction of an associated slot (5'), as seen from the bottom of the slot { 1 ' ) , and which is bendable inwardly towards the associated slot (5' ) for locking engagement with the aid of a locking edge (10) against a metal wire (17) which is inserted into the slot (5') .
2. Holder according to claim 1, characterized in that the locking tongue (9) is bendable along a bending line (18) which has a direction essentially parallel with the direction of said engagement portion (9) .
3. Holder according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the locking edge (10) is shaped such that it forms an acute angle ( ) with a metal wire (17) which is inserted into the slot .
4. Holder according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the locking tongue (9) is arranged on a-n engagement portion (8) which is positioned outermost orx the holder.
5. Holder according to any of the previou-s claims, characterized in that the locking tongue (9) provides a proximal weakening (9) for facilitating and controlling its bending.
6. Holder according to any of the previou-s claims, characterized in that it provides two second, essentially parallel opposite sides so that the holder a.t least partially has a U-shaped section.
7. Holder according to any of the previou-s claims, characterized in that it is comprised of a bracket (11) or a pendulum holder (1) .
8. Holder according to any of the previou-s claims, characterized in that it is manufactured from a metal plate material .
9. Holder according to any of the previous claims, characterized in that a slot (5' ) which is positioned outermost on the holder has an entrance direction for insertion of a metal wire essentially parall_el with the first wall (3) .
10. Holder according to any of the previouts claims, characterized in that a slot (5) which is not positioned outermost on the holder has an entrance direction for insertion of a metal wire essentially at a rright angle to the first wall (3) .
