  • sonic boom reduction is an important design criterion for a supersonic aircraft, other considerations always impact design decisions. For example, a useful aircraft will have an appropriate capacity for holding passengers and/or cargo and be a suitable configuration for safe operation. Most low boom supersonic aircraft designs place the engines at the aft fuselage on top of the wing to avoid adding the effects of nacelle shock waves to the shock waves of the airframe of the wing. Performance considerations, however, favor positioning the nacelles under the wing. Nacelles mounted on the aft portion of the wing tend to reduce the wing and nacelle wave drag. Such nacelles mounted under the wing tend to induce an increase in lift, thereby improving the lift to drag ratio, whereas nacelles on top of the wing tend to reduce lift, thereby adversely affecting the lift to drag ratio.

Therefore, the audible sound pressure decreases dramatically with decreasing shock magnitude. For example, the noise from two shocks at half the pressure of a single shock is approximately 6 decibels lower, and the noise from one shock at half the pressure is about 9 decibels lower. Thus, minimizing shock magnitude minimizes the loudness of the sonic boom.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un aéronef conçu pour des conditions de vol supersonique de faible bang sonique, qui comprend une aile présentant une ou plusieurs zones d'expansion en champ lointain précédant des zones de compression en champ lointain. Une courbe d'objectifs de répartition de zones équivalentes est mise à l'échelle pour rendre compte de la réduction de zone équivalente due à des excursions en-deçà de la courbe d'objectifs. Une contrainte assouplie permet de situer la répartition de zones équivalentes de l'aéronef au niveau ou en-deçà de la courbe d'objectifs de répartition de zones équivalentes, et de configurer de multiples paramètres afin qu'ils satisfassent ladite contrainte de répartition de zones équivalentes, ainsi que d'autres contraintes. La forme d'une partie réfléchie du profil aérodynamique sur la face inférieure de l'aile, et une forme correspondante pour la surface supérieure de la nacelle assurent une interaction favorable entre l'aile et la nacelle.
