  • the multimedia file can be sent in the form of an electronic message message (e-mail) or by an application of multimedia messaging services MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), or by an application of the client-server type on the web.
  • MMS Multimedia Messaging Service
  • the recipient of the multimedia file using the first mobile terminal accesses the multimedia file either by using a personal computer connected to the internet to read it in his electronic mail messaging, or directly from his mobile terminal in the case of an MMS message.
  • the multimedia file When the multimedia file is transmitted by an MMS message, that is to say in the form of a “short multimedia” message, the multimedia file is not stored in the telecommunications network, but stored directly in the terminal mobile after transmission via the mobile radiotelephony network of the GSM or GSM / GPRS type serving the mobile terminal.
  • the transmission of a multimedia file through the radiotelephone access network of the mobile terminal is all the longer and more expensive the larger the size of the multimedia file.

  • the sorting center CTM establishes a notification command CN, in parallel with the routing of the extracted FM multimedia file to the SSM server.
  • the CN notification command includes all the ATI, ID2 and BT data contained in the message received MT2 with the exception of the FM multimedia file.
  • the notification command CN thus established is transmitted by the sorting center CTM to the notification server SN, in step 16.
  • the notification server SN which is a short message server extracts the address ATI from the terminal T1 of the command notification received CN in order to transmit it, as the recipient address identifying the terminal T1, to the nominal register of the HLR (Home Location Register) type of the RAI radiotelephony network.
  • the nominal recorder reads the temporary identity of the TMSI (Temporary Mobile Station Identity) type assigned to the mobile terminal T1 as well as the address of the mobile service switch to which the terminal T1 is temporarily attached.
  • TMSI Temporary Mobile Station Identity

  • the reception of the short message NSFM thus notifies the user of the terminal T1 that the attachment to the message MT2 constituted by the multimedia file FM has given him was sent by another user and, if steps 14 to 16 have been carried out, has been stored in its public storage area ZPU in the SSM server.
  • the user will consult and later recover the FM multimedia file, as will be seen with reference to FIG. 3.
  • the first method for accessing a multimedia file as detailed above according to FIG.
  • step 10 the user of the terminal T2 who wishes to deposit an FM multimedia file in the server SSM calls the server SW by dialing the address ASW and then the password MP following an invitation message from the server SW.
  • the terminal T2 transmits the message MT2 (AT1, ID2, BT, FM) to the server SW.
  • the server SW analyzes the message MT2 and directs the extracted multimedia file FM to store it in the public area ZPU of the server SSM when the size of the multimedia file FM exceeds the minimum size TM. If the multimedia file is smaller than the minimum size TM, the SSM server establishes a notification command CN including all the data of the message MT2, including the small multimedia file, to the notification server SN, as indicated in step 13. The server SW then informs the notification server SN by a notification command CN that the user of the terminal T2 has transmitted a multimedia file FM as attachments, in a manner analogous to step 16.
  • the notification server SN then sends, in step 17, a notification of storage of a multimedia file NSFM in the form of a short message to the terminal T1 to indicate to the user that the multimedia file FM has been deposited by the user of terminal T2 in its storage area ZPU in the SSM server.
  • the dialogue between the terminal T2 and the server SW is more user-friendly according to a client-server design, the terminal T2 being a mobile or fixed terminal of the client type and the web server SW playing the role of server.
  • the interface offered to the user of the T2 terminal is "light" according to this embodiment, for example of the Windows type (registered trademark).
  • the user of the terminal T2 deposits an FM multimedia file in the public storage area ZPU by: selecting a menu "multimedia file deposit", - entering the ATI address, that is to say the telephone number of the terminal T1, or selecting it from a directory of the terminal T2, and - entering its identity and the password MP if it is requested by a small application of the applet type implemented in the terminal T2.
  • the application then automatically converts the ATI address to the internet address (IP) or ASW URL of the web server SW and then transfers the extracted multimedia file FM from the ZPU zone to the ZPR zone.
  • the multimedia file storage server SSM is replaced by a memory space included in a fixed terminal, such as the terminal BO, linked to the user having the mobile terminal Tl.
  • the sorting center CTM or the web server SW then transmits the extracted FM multimedia file to the fixed terminal for storage there in step 15.
  • the user will consult or recover the FM multimedia file stored locally.
  • Retrieving an FM multimedia file in the ZPU or ZPR storage area allocated to the user of the terminal T1 in the SSM server comprises steps 20 to 26 shown in FIG. 3.
  • the user selects a specific menu in the terminal Tl or presses a predetermined key on his terminal Tl, which can in one embodiment be limited to powering up the terminal Tl, in step 20.
  • the terminal Tl check in the next step 21 if it is in the coverage area of the BO terminal.
  • the terminal T1 decides to establish a connection with the web server SW through the radiotelephony network RAI in step 22, after validation by the user. Otherwise, in step 23, the terminal BO which has detected the terminal Tl in its cover establishes a link with the web server SW directly through the access network RAF, such as an ADSL line.

  • the terminal Tl acknowledges file registration multimedia in the terminal Tl to the server SW, in step 26.
  • the storage of a multimedia file FM in the storage zone ZPR or ZPU allocated to the user of the terminal T1 in the storage server SSM comprises steps 30 to 39.
  • a request for file storage multimedia in the SSM server is triggered by the pressing of a predetermined key on the terminal Tl or the validation of a menu on the screen of the terminal Tl, in step 30.
  • the terminal Tl decides to establish a connection with the server SW via the terminal BO and the access network RAF, or via the radiotelephony network RAI, after validation of the user of the terminal Tl.
  • the terminal Tl is not detected by the terminal BO, a choice is proposed on the screen of the terminal Tl, between an immediate multimedia file download to the radiotelephony network RAI and a deferred download, in step 32. If the user has decided to connect the terminal Tl immediately to the RAI network, the terminal Tl is connected to the server SW through the network RAI in step 33. If the user refuses the immediate connection, the terminal Tl stores in memory the download request and the characteristics of the multimedia file to be downloaded specified in step 30 during an intermediate step 34 until the terminal BO detects in its coverage area the terminal T1 in step 35. As soon as the terminal T1 and the terminal BO are detected in step 31 or 35, the terminal BO connects the terminal T1 through the access network RAF to the web server SW in step 36.
  • a request to download an FM multimedia file for the storage area ZPU, or ZPR, through the web server SW is only authorized if the server SW recognized the address ATI of the terminal Tl supplied by the RAI or RP network.

  • the server SW acknowledges the downloading of the multimedia file FM to the terminal T1 in step 39.
  • the notification server SN is not limited to a short message server and can, according to another embodiment, be replaced by a gateway node GGSM (Gateway GPRS Support Mode) and a service node SGSM (Serving GPRS Support Mode) between them by a GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) packet network which is connected to the nominal recorder as well as to several base station controllers of the RAI radiotelephony network.
  • the gateway node GGSM is connected to the message sorting center CTM by a dedicated link and to the web server SW through the internet RP.
