Abstract

An electronic article, such as a power tool, that includes a cavity containing an anti-theft device is provided. The cavity is enclosed by a covering, such as an adhesive label, and may be located on a component of the electronic article remote from the motor in the article to decrease the likelihood that the anti-theft device will be deactivated by a magnetic or electromagnetic field generated by the motor. In addition, a method is provided for deterring the theft of electronic articles. The method includes inserting an anti-theft device into a cavity located in an electronic article and covering the cavity.
