Description

The present invention is a gypsum fiber board with graded edge formation. Gypsum fiber boards have been delivered either in a shiplap or with tongue and groove. The shiplap can be nailed or stapled, but not or only poorly and incompletely glued. Although the tongue and groove can be glued together relatively well, they can not be nicked or stapled, or nailed very badly.

The object of the invention has been found to combine the advantages of the two types of connection with each other while avoiding the disadvantages.

This object is now achieved in that at least one of the four edges is formed as a combination of
  1. a) an asymmetric stepped rabbet and
  2. b) a beveled, asymmetrical groove or spring.

Preferably, the thickness of the shiplap is 25 to 40% of the total plate thickness. As a result, in the tapered, asymmetric groove, there is a good 75 to 60% of the total plate thickness.

Preferably, the groove has a depth which is 25 to 35% of the depth of the shiplap.

The new gypsum fiber boards can be formed either all four edges as a groove or all four edges as a spring. Particularly preferred are structural panels in which two edges are designed as a groove and two other edges as a spring. The new gypsum fiber board with graded edge formation can be easily nailed or stapled. The new design of tongue and groove lead to a uniform distribution of the adhesive and thus to a better bonding than usual design of tongue and groove. Especially when bonding with polyurethane adhesives by moisture Foaming in the new edge formation leads to good, large-area and stable bonding without any part of the polyuretane foam emerging laterally and thus contaminating the surface. The area of the shiplap is so large and stable in the new edge design that it is easy to nail or staple in this area.

Examination of the new graded stapled and glued edge formation has led to the surprising result that for an F-60 wall to be tested in the new edge resistance range for fire resistance, not the expected 60 minutes but values greater than 90 minutes nearly 120 minutes were reached.

In the adjoining Figures 1 and 2 Two embodiments of the new edge formation in the scale 2: 1 are shown. FIG. 1 shows the embodiment of a gypsum fiber board of thickness 16mm and FIG. 2 the new edge formation on a gypsum fiber board of 19mm thickness. It is clear that these are only preferred embodiments. This principle of edge formation can readily be applied to different thicknesses of gypsum fiber board. Furthermore, of course, the dimensions of stepped rabbet on the one hand and tongue / groove on the other hand can be varied, but the dimensional limits are preferably in the above-mentioned ranges.
