Abstract
A vehicle litter bag holder comprising an elongate frame (10), first means (12, 14) for attaching the frame (10) to a support, second means (16) for accommodating a roll of bags (20) in or on the frame (10), and third means (34, 36) for supporting an individual bag (22) removed from the said roll (20) in an in-use position on the frame (10).
Description
BAG HOLDER
This invention relates to a bag holder for litter particularly suitable for use in a vehicle. Accordingly, the present invention is a vehicle litter bag holder comprising an elongate frame, first means for attaching the frame to a support, second means for accommodating a roll of bags in or on the frame, and third means for supporting an individual bag removed from the said roll in an in-use position on the frame. Ideally, the frame is manufactured from a substantially rigid material. Preferably, the roll of bags has perforations or weakenings between each bag and the next to permit successive bags to be torn from the roll, and the accommodating second means comprises a tubular or part-tubular member having an opening at least at one end and a longitudinal slit allowing the roll of bags to be inserted into the tubular member through the opening with the outermost bag projecting through the slit. Ideally, the roll of bags is disposed in or on the frame.
Preferably, a covering cap is provided to close the at least one open end of the tubular member.
Advantageously, the or each covering cap prevents the roll of bags from sliding out of the or each end of the tubular member when the vehicle in which the litter bag holder is mounted goes around a corner.
Alternatively, the roll of bags is in the form in which each succeeding bag in the roll partially overlaps the preceding bag.
Preferably also, the roll of bags is in a form in which each bag in the roll has a flap over its opening. Preferably further, the attaching first means comprises a facility for hooking the frame over the top of a support. The support beneficially is a vehicle seat. The
supporting third means desirably comprises at least one projection near the top of the frame for insertion into an aperture near the top of a bag.
In a second embodiment of attaching first means, a hook-like arm has a leg which rests on the opposite side of a support to the frame in use and the free end of this leg extends towards the main plane of the frame to act as a clamping means on the support in use.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which;
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a vehicle litter bag holder according to the present invention together with a roll of tear-off bags shown separately;
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the bag holder;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the litter bag holder;
Fig. 4 is a front view of a litter bag used in the holder; and
Fig 5 is a partial side view of a hook for mounting the bag holder onto a support. Referring to the drawings, the litter bag holder comprises an open elongate frame 10 of substantially rigid material to be uprightly oriented in use and having at the top two hook-like arms 12 and 14 reflexively bent into a U shape. These arms 12, 14 serve as attaching first means. In a second embodiment of attaching first means, a hook-like arm 51 has a leg 52 which rests on an opposite side of a support to the frame 10 in use and the free end of this leg extends towards the main plane of the frame to act as a clamping means on the support in use, see Fig. 5. Advantageously, this allows the frame to be mounted on a range of vehicle seat with varied dimensions. In use, the frame 10 is placed on the back of a front seat of a car, or alternatively over the front of the passenger or back seat of a car, with the arms 12, 14 or 51 hooking over the top of the seat and thus holding the frame 10 in place.
At the bottom of the frame 10, an open-ended tubular member 16 is provided, the member 16 being substantially circular in cross-section and having semi-circular extensions 16a on each side thereof. This comprises the accommodating second means. There is a longitudinal slit 18 along the bottom of the tubular member 16 as shown. A roll 20 (Fig. 1 ) of thin plastics bags 22 (Fig. 4) is inserted into the tubular member 16 and extensions 16A from one open end, with the outermost bag 22 in the roll 20 having its top projecting through the slit 18. Each bag 22 on the roll 20 has front and back faces joined along three sides to leave an open top 24. The front face 26 is not as extensive as the back face 28, leaving the interior surface of the back face 28 showing near the top of the bag 22. In the back face 28 there are located two slits 30 and 32 at the top of the bag for location over respective projections 34, 36 at the top of the frame 10.
Different versions of the roll 20 of bags 22 can be used. The leading end of each bag 22 has its open top therein. In one version (not shown in detail), the roll 20 of bags 22 is of the kind having perforations or weakenings between each bag 22 and the next to permit successive bags 22 to be torn from the roll. Thus, in use, successive bags 22 can be pulled from the roll 20 through the slit 18, the opposite longitudinal edges of the slit 18 can be used to aid the tearing of the perforations at the end of the bag 22. In an alternative version (not shown in detail), the roll 20 of bags 22 is of the type where each successive bag 22 is separate and partially overlaps the preceding bag 22, so that when a bag 22 is pulled from the roll 20 there is sufficient portion of the bag held between the succeeding bag and the rest of the roll to provide resistance to the bag being pulled from the roll. Again, in use, successive bags 22 can be pulled from the roll 20 through the slit. In this version, the resistive contact between overlapping bags provides sufficient grip to pull successive bags from the roll.
In each of the above versions of a roll 20 of bags 22, each bag 22 is in the form of having a flap over its open top.
In use a bag 22 is pulled from the roll 20 and is placed on the frame 10 with the back face 28 on the side of the frame 10 opposite the hook-like arms 12 and 14 or 51 , the bag 22 being held in place by the slits 30 and 32 being located over the projections 34, 36 respectively. In use, the bag is preferably left attached to the roll at its base, thus providing further support for the bag on the frame. After use the bag can then be fully removed from the roll and disposed of in a suitable manner.
Variations and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
