Abstract

This invention relates to a chessman that comprises a socle base and a statuette. It is a first suggestion of this invention to embody said socle base with radial serrations to create locking by form of two mating chessmen, and a second suggestion of this invention to embody the top section of a castle statuette to resemble a cylindrical pot, whose nominal diameter is so large as to receive the cylindrical socle base of any chessman.

Description

  • The present invention relates to technical equipment for a respective social and competitive chess game, and more particularly, it relates to a chessman.
  • As generally known, a pair of chessmen sets constitutes a specific technical basis of said social and competitive chess game, with said sets being identical as to their construction, but of different colours, and each of them comprising a front chessmen line composed of eight mutually equal chessmen, and a back chessmen line different from the front one and composed of three times two mutually equal chessmen and two single chessmen. From the production point of view, six different chessmen and two times sixteen chessmen, respectively, totalling thirty-two chessmen are thus in question in the entire chessmen assembly.
  • Besides, it is also generally known that each chessman comprises a socle base and a statuette arranged on it.
  • Two problems arise with the technical equipment that comprises chessmen embodied as known in the prior art. On the one hand, it is not immediately evident whether all chessmen are included in an assembly composed of randomly distributed chessmen, and on the other hand, a relatively extensive space is necessary for storing said thirty-two randomly distributed chessmen.
  • It is thus a primary object of this invention to obviate both said problems, and a secondary one to at least alleviate them without violating the rules of the World Chess Federation (FIDE, Fédération Internationale des Échecs).
  • Proceeding from the fact that the said chessman socle base is a cylindrical or substantially cylindrical member it is suggested according to this invention that, first, radial serrations are formed on said cylindrical member to constitute locking by form of two mating chessmen.
  • In e.g. engineering construction, said specific radial serrations are known (particularly in the technical field relating to clutches/couplings) under different denominations such as jaw clutch, Hildebrandt's clutch, Hirth's clutch, and gear clutch.
  • It is a ring of axially oriented prongs or teeth or the like with the tooth gaps of respective first serrations being adapted to receive respective prongs or teeth or the like of the counter serrations.
  • By combining the socle bases of two chessmen, whose radial serrations mate, two advantages are obtained. Firstly, the total axial extension of two mated chessmen is for the effective axial extension of said radial serrations smaller than the total axial extension of two chessmen without said radial serrations, and secondly, it is immediately evident whether all chessmen are included, provided the two sets of chessmen are systematically arranged by twos, i.e. the chessmen mate according to a chosen method, e.g. a white pawn mates a black one.
  • Besides, secondarily, according to this invention the top section of a castle statuette is suggested to be embodied to resemble a cylindrical pot whose nominal diameter is so large as to receive the cylindrical socle base of any chessman.
  • The said suggestion of this invention, too, brings two advantages. Firstly, by stacking the socle base of a chessman into the top section of a castle statuette the space for storing the chessmen gets smaller, and secondly, an alternative of playing chess can be organized providing, e.g. occupying a castle by any chessman.

Claims (3)

  1. A chessman comprising a cylindrical or substantially cylindrical socle base and a statuette, characterized in that radial serrations are formed on said cylindrical socle base to constitute locking by form with a further chessman, whose socle base also comprises radial serrations, with said radial serrations of two mating chessmen being identical.
  2. A chessman as in claim 1, characterized in that said radial serrations formed on said cylindrical socle base are embodied either as a jaw clutch, a Hildebrandt's clutch, a Hirth's clutch, a gear clutch or as serrations substantially similar to any said clutch.
  3. A chessman comprising a cylindrical or substantially cylindrical socle base and a statuette, characterized in that the top section of a castle statuette is embodied to resemble a cylindrical pot, whose nominal diameter is so large as to receive the cylindrical socle base of any chessman.
