Description

SMALL SUM TRANSACTION SYSTEM AND METHOD THROUGH PRE- APPROVAL USING INFORMATION RECORDING MEDKJM
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates, in general, to small sum transaction system and method through a pre-approval using an information recording medium, and, more specifically, to small sum transaction system and method through a pre-approval using an information recording medium, in which pre-approved amount of money is recorded in the information recording medium to allow a user to execute plural small sum transactions, so as to execute the small sum transaction within usage-limit amount of money of the user even in an off-line mode.
BACKGRUND OF THE INVENTION
In general, when people enjoy services or purchase articles, prices for the services or prices for purchasing the articles are paid using cash or a credit card.
The credit card includes a credit card by which the prices are paid after a transaction approval and a post-payment card by which the prices are paid without the transaction approval. The post-payment card is used mainly for paying the subway fee or the bus fee, and since terminals or terminal computers in a system using the post- payment card have all the B/L (black list), it is checked whether the information recorded in the post-payment card of a user exists in the B/L or not to perform the transaction approval.
However, since in the post-payment system, all the B/Ls are downloaded from a server to the terminals or the terminal computers, as the number of card companies and clients is increased, capacity of a B/L storage module in a terminal should be increased, so that cost for providing the module is increased. In addition, since all the B/Ls should be downloaded at a time, the time for the download is increased.
Further, when the small sum transaction is expanded to services except for the public transportation such as the subway or the bus in the future, a smooth small sum transaction cannot be executed only by use of the conventional system. Furthermore, since when the post-payment systems using the post-payment card such as vending machines as well as the transportation card systems are increased, the amount of money for each small sum transaction in each system is small but the sum thereof is increased, the credit card companies should take the transaction risk.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Now, constructions according to respective embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Prior to detailed description of the present invention, several terminologies used in the present invention will be described. A D/L information means one piece of D/L information recorded in an information recording medium, and a D/L data means a D/L information group including at least one piece of D/L information.
In the present invention, the information recording medium is, as an information recording medium having a function as a credit card for enabling at least a credit transaction, any medium only if a predetermined information is recorded and stored by communicating with the fee settlement terminal 200 in a contact type or a non-contact type and the stored information is read out, and the information recording medium in the present invention is not specifically limited but may be a credit card such as a contact/non-contact type IC card or a contact/non-contact type IC medium provided in a mobile communication terminal such as a PDA or a mobile phone, or the like.
Unlike the conventional art, in the present invention, when the small sum transaction is not available through the granted pre-approval, a new pre-approval is granted in an off-line mode without additional approval procedures to execute the small sum transaction through the new pre-approval, and it is determined whether the granted new pre-approval information is approved or not through an approval procedure in a predetermined time to manage the possibility of transaction of the relevant information recording medium in the future by using the D/L information. The approval procedure in the predetermined time is performed by a pre-approval server to which the present invention is adapted.
Now, small sum transaction system and method through a pre-approval using a non-contact type credit card according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described.
Fig. 1 is a block diagram schematically illustrating the small sum transaction system through a pre-approval using a credit card according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 1, a fee settlement system using the pre-approved credit card according to the present invention comprises a credit card 100, fee settlement terminals 200, a pre-approval server 300, a communication network 400 and a terminal computer 500.
A unique information of the credit card, a pre-approval information, a usage information, a D/L (Denied List) information, etc. for a credit transaction are recorded in a predetermined area of the credit card 100. The card-unique information includes at least the card number, the pre-approval information includes a pre-approved amount of money, a pre-approved date, a number of pre-approval times, etc, and the usage information includes a one-time usage amount, an accumulated usage amount in a predetermined time, a pre-approved residual amount, etc. The usage information may further include a boarding/landing information and a date information for settling the fee when the credit card 100 is a transportation card for use in boarding and landing a subway.
Further, the fee settlement terminals 200 read out the information recorded in the credit card 100 to determine whether the D/L information is recorded or not, and when the D/L information is recorded in the credit card 100, display the impossibility of the card usage in a display means 250 and deny the transaction. When the D/L information is not recorded in the credit card 100, the fee settlement terminals 200 determines whether the card-unique information read out from the credit card exists in the D/L data stored in advance in the fee settlement terminals 200 or not, and when the card-unique information exists in the D/L data, record the D/L information in the credit card 100. When the card-unique information does not exist in the D/L data, the fee settlement terminals 200 determines whether a new pre-approval is necessary or not to execute the small sum transaction depending out the determination, and settle the transaction particulars to store the transaction particulars or the new pre-approval information in a storage means 220 described later and to record them in the credit card. Here, a reference for determining whether a new pre-approval is necessary or not is a minimum amount of money to be compared with the pre-approved residual amount of money or an updating date, and details thereof will be described later.
The D/L data is periodically or non-periodically downloaded from the pre- approval server 300 and is erased and updated using a first-in first-out method. Here, each piece of D/L information may include the information for determining whether the D/L information is recorded in the credit card 100 or not. In this case, even if the card number read out from the credit card 100 exists in the D/L data, only the transaction may be denied and the D/L information may not be recorded in the relevant credit card 100. How to generate the information for determining whether the D/L information is recorded or not will be described later.
When it is determined that the execution of the small sum transaction is possible through inquiry of the D/L information, the fee settlement terminals 200 determine whether a new pre-approval is granted or not. When the new pre-approval is not granted, the fee settlement terminals 200 subtract the paying amount of money for the small sum transaction due to the execution of the small sum transaction from the pre-approved amount of money read out from the credit card 100 to update the amount of money and a new amount of money in the credit card 100, and when the new pre- approval is granted, the fee settlement terminals 200 update the pre-approval information and record the new pre-approval information in the credit card 100 and then allow the execution of the small sum transaction. At that time, the information on the execution of the small sum transaction or the new pre-approval information generated is stored in the storage means 200 to be described later along with the relevant card- unique information and then is periodically or non-periodically transmitted to the pre- approval server 300.
When the new pre-approval is granted, the fee settlement terminals 200 erase and initialize the pre-approved residual amount of money recorded in the credit card 100, and then record the newly pre-approved amount of money.
Here, the determination of whether the new pre-approval is granted or not in the fee settlement terminals 200 is performed by comparing the pre-approved residual amount of money read out from the credit card 100 with a predetermined minimum amount of money for a small sum transaction set up every fee settlement terminal 200. That is, when the pre-approved residual amount of money is greater than or equal to the minimum amount of money, it is determined that the new pre-approval is not necessary, and when the pre-approved residual amount of money is smaller than the minimum amount of money, it is determined that the new pre-approval is necessary. Further, the determination of whether the new pre-approval is granted or not in the fee settlement terminals 200 is performed depending upon advent of the pre- approval updating date. In this case, the fee settlement terminals 200 counts the date to check the pre-approval updating date, determine whether the pre-approval updating date has come or not using the counted date, and when it is determined that the pre- approval updating date has come, determine that the new pre-approval is necessary, to record the new pre-approval information stored in advance into the credit card 100.
Here, the new pre-approval information includes at least the newly pre- approved amount of money and the newly pre-approved date information, and may further include the number information of the pre-approvals.
Since the pre-approval server 300 is connected to the fee settlement terminals 200, the pre-approval server 300 periodically or non-periodically receives the information resulted from the execution of the small sum transaction from the fee settlement terminals 200 and allows only the amount of money used by the user out of the pre-approved amount of money for each user to be accumulated and to be subjected to the post-payment, while the pre-approval server 300 receives the new pre-approval information and the card-unique information from the fee settlement terminals 200 and inquires the relevant card-unique information to determine whether the new pre- approval is available. When the new pre-approval is available, the pre-approval server 300 grants the pre-approval number to the new pre-approved amount of money to store the granted new pre-approval number and the pre-approved amount of money in a database 310 in correspondence to the card-unique information, and when the new pre- approval is available, the pre-approval server 300 adds the card-unique information of the relevant credit card 100 to the D/L data of a D/L database 340 and periodically or non-periodically transmits the D/L data to the fee settlement terminals 200.
Furthermore, the pre-approval server 300 determines whether the card-unique information of the user included in the information resulted from the execution of the small sum transaction, periodically or non-periodically transmitted from the fee settlement terminals 200, is included in the D/L data, and when the card-unique information is included in the D/L data, the pre-approval server 300 adds the card- unique information of the user to the D/L data of the D/L database 340 and periodically or non-periodically the D/L data to the fee settlement terminals 200. Here, each piece of D/L information constituting the D/L data may include the information for determining whether the D/L information should be recorded in the credit card 100 requesting the small sum transaction. The information for determining whether the D/L information should be recorded in the credit card 100 is generated in accordance with the causes to be a D/L target such as robbery, loss, person in arrear, excess of usage limit, other credit risks, etc in generating the D/L information, is included in the D/L information and is downloaded into the fee settlement terminals 200.
The terminal computer 500 is connected to the plurality of fee settlement terminals 200 and is connected to the pre-approval server 300 through the communication network 400, controls the plurality of fee settlement terminals 200 to transmit the transaction particulars and the pre-approval particulars generated in the fee settlement terminals 200 to the pre-approval server 300, while transmitting the D/L data of the pre-approval server 300 to the fee settlement terminals 200.
Fig. 2 is a block diagram illustrating in detail the small sum transaction system through a pre-approval using a credit card according to the present invention. As shown in Fig. 2, the fee settlement terminal 200 according to the present invention comprises a reading-out/recording means 210, a storage means 220, a security access module 230, a key input means 240, a display means 250, a communication means 260, an output means 270, an alarm generating means 280, a D/L (Denied List) management means 285 and a control means 290. Here, when the reading-out/recording means 210 senses the credit card 100 in a contact or non-contact mode, the reading-out/recording means 210 reads out the information recorded in a predetermined area of the credit card 100 or on the contrary, records the information in a predetermined area of the credit card 100, in accordance with control of the control means 290.
Further, the storage means 220 memorizes the information read out from the credit card 300 by the reading-out/recording means 210 or the information transmitted from the pre-approval server 300, in accordance with the control of the control means 290. More specifically, the storage means 220 memorizes the pre-approval updating date or the minimum amount of money for determining whether the new pre-approval is available or not, as well as the D/L information, while memorizing the usage information (when the credit card is a transportation card used for a subway, the boarding/landing information, date and amount of money) updated and recorded in the credit card 100 in execution of the small sum transaction and the new pre-approval information along with the card-unique information.
Furthermore, the security access module 230 supplies a security information in the off-line mode so as to read out the predetermined information recorded in the credit card 100, in accordance with the control of the control means 290.
Furthermore, the key input means 240 comprises a plurality of keys for inputting the information by a user for enjoying various services supplied from the pre- approval server 300. Furthermore, the display means 250 displays the service information on the key input state of the key input means 240 and the operation state of the fee settlement terminal 200, in accordance with the control of the control means 290.
Furthermore, the communication means 260 supports the reception/transmission of data with the pre-approval server 300 in the off-line mode, in accordance with the control of the control means 290.
Furthermore, the output means 270 operates in accordance with the control of the control means 290 to issue a receipt for the execution or non-execution of the pre- approval update.
Furthermore, the alarm generating means 280 operates in accordance with the control of the control means 290 to display the abnormal condition of the fee settlement terminal.
Furthermore, the D/L management means 285 operates in accordance with the control of the control means 290 to download the D/L information for a predetermined time from the pre-approval server 300 and to update the D/L information stored in the storage means 220 of the fee settlement terminal 200 using the first-in first-out method. That is, the D/L management means 285 stores the D/L data for the predetermined time in the storage means 220. For example, supposed that the D/L data for 30 days are retained, it means that the storage means 220 retains the D/L information for the latest 30 days, and the D/L data is erased in the first-in first-out method by dates of the D/L information downloaded from the pre-approval server 300. The control means 290 reads out the card-unique information from the credit card 100 through the reading-out/recording means 210 and inquires the D/L data using the card-unique information with reference to the storage means 220 to determine whether the small sum transaction is possible or not. When the small sum transaction is possible, the control means 290 determines whether the new pre-approval is necessary or not by use of the pre-approval updating date or the minimum amount of money stored in the storage means, and when it is determined that the new pre-approval is not necessary, the control means 290 subtracts the paying amount for the small sum transaction due to the execution of the small sum transaction from the read-out pre- approved residual amount of money and updates the pre-approved residual amount of money to record the resultant amount of money through the reading-out/recording means 210. When it is determined that the new pre-approval is necessary, the control means 290 grants the new pre-approval to record the new pre-approval information in the credit card 100 and then to allow the small sum transaction to be executed.
In determination of grant of the new pre-approval using the pre-approval updating date, the control means 290 counts the dates to check the pre-approval updating date, and determines whether the pre-approval updating date has come using the counted date when the card-unique information is read out by the reading- out/recording means 210. When it is determined that the pre-approval updating date has come, the control means 290 reads out the new pre-approved amount of money stored in the storage means 220 to record the amount of money along with the current date in the credit card 100, while the control means 290 stores the new pre-approval information and the card-unique information of the relevant credit card 100 and then periodically or non-periodically transmits them to the pre-approval server 300.
At that time, the control means 290 erases and initializes the pre-approved amount of money, the pre-approved date and the used amount of money stored in the credit card 100, and then records the new pre-approved amount of money and the new pre-approved date.
On the other hand, in determination of grant of the new pre-approval using the minimum amount of money, the control means 290 reads out the pre-approval information recorded in the credit card 100 through the reading-out/recording means 210 and compares the minimum amount of money with the pre-approved residual amount of money. When the pre-approved residual amount of money is smaller than the minimum amount of money, the control means 290 controls the reading- out/recording means 210 to record the newly pre-approved amount of money in the credit card 100 using the new pre-approval information stored in the storage means 290, and when the pre-approved residual amount of money is greater than or equal to the minimum amount of money, the control means 290 determines that the execution of the small sum transaction is possible. When the pre-approved residual amount of money is smaller than the minimum amount for the small sum transaction, the control means 290 determines that the execution of the small sum transaction is not possible.
At that time, the control means 290 erases the previously pre-approved amount of money and the previously pre-approved date prior to updating the information recorded in the credit card 100 with the newly pre-approved amount of money.
When the user requests the small sum transaction, the control means 290 determines whether the D/L information exists in the credit card 100 through the reading-out/recording means 210 or not. When the D/L information does not exist, the control means 290 determines whether the read-out card number exists in the D/L information of the storage means 220, and when the card number of the user exists in the D/L information, determines that the execution of the small sum transaction is not possible to display that the card cannot be used and to record the D/L information in the credit card 100. When the card number does not exist in the D/L information, the control means determines that the execution of the small sum transaction is possible. Here, the D/L information may include the information indicative of recording the D/L information in the credit card 100. In this case, the control means 290 checks the information for determination of the D/L recording included in the D/L information. Therefore, when the D/L information includes the information of recording the D/L information, the control means 290 controls to record the D/L information in the credit card 100, so that the execution of the small sum transaction is not possible through other fee settlement terminals 200 as well as the current fee settlement terminal 200. When the D/L information does not include the information of recording the D/L information, the control means 290 controls to execute only the denial of transaction without recording the relevant D/L information in the relevant credit card 100.
On the other hand, as shown in Fig. 2, the pre-approval server 300 comprises a database 310, a server communication means 320 and a server control means 330.
Here, the database 310 memorizes the card number, the pre-approval number, the pre-approved amount of money and the pre-approval updating date in accordance with the control of the server control means 330, while memorizing the usage information including the pre-approved amount information updated and recorded in the credit card 100 in pre-approval.
Further, the server communication means 320 supports reception/transmission of data with the fee settlement terminal 200 in an on-line mode, in accordance with the control of the server control means 330. Furthermore, the server control means 330 receives the information on the execution of the small sum transaction from the fee settlement terminal 200 through the communication means 320 and allows only the amount of money used by the user out of the pre-approved amount of money for each user to be accumulated and to be subjected to the post-payment. On the other hand, the server control means 330 determines whether the new pre-approval is available or not through inquiry of the usage limit of the relevant credit card 100, and when the new pre-approval is available, grants the new pre-approval number and stores the new pre-approved amount of money in correspondence to the new pre-approval number. A real transaction information generated after the new pre-approval is stored in correspondence to the newly pre- approval amount of money.
On the other hand, Fig. 3 are flowcharts illustrating a small sum transaction method through a pre-approval using a credit card in a fee settlement terminal according to the present invention, where Fig. 3 A is a flowchart for determining whether the small sum transaction is possible or not through a D/L inquiry and Fig. 3B is a flowchart for executing the small sum transaction depending upon necessity of a new pre-approval.
As shown in Fig. 3, the small sum transaction method through a pre-approval using a pre-approval credit card system comprises: a step 100 SI 00 in which the fee settlement terminal 200 reads out the information of the credit card 100, inquires the D/L data on the basis of the read-out card-unique information, and determines whether a payment for the small sum transaction by means of the credit card is possible or not; a step 200 S200 of, when it is determined in the step 100 SI 00 that the payment for the small sum transaction by means of the credit card 100 is possible, determines whether the new pre-approval is necessary or not; a step 300 S300 of, when it is determined in the step 200 S200 that the new pre-approval is not necessary, controlling to execute the small sum transaction, subtracting the paid amount of money for the small sum transaction from the read-out pre-approved amount of money, then updating the amount of money to record the resultant amount of money in the credit card 100, and storing the small sum transaction information in correspondence to the relevant card-unique information in the storage means 220; a step 400 S400 of, when it is determined in the step 200 S200 that the new pre-approval is necessary, updating the pre-approved amount of money to record the predetermined new pre-approved amount of money in the credit card 100 and storing the predetermined new pre-approved amount of money in correspondence to the relevant card-unique information in the storage means; and a step 500 S500 of periodically or non-periodically transmitting the card-unique information, the pre-approval information and the transaction particulars information stored in the storage means 220 to the pre-approval server 300.
Here, the step 100 SI 00 comprises: a step 110 SI 10 of sensing the credit card 100; a step 120 SI 20 of, when the credit card 100 is sensed, reading out the card-unique information and the pre-approved amount information from the predetermined area of the credit card 100; a step 130 SI 30 of reading out the information recorded in the credit card 100 to determine whether the D/L information exists or not; and a step 160 SI 60 of, when it is determined in the step 130 SI 30 that the D/L information exists, determining that the payment for the small sum transaction by the card is not possible and outputting a message indicative of impossibility of the card usage on a screen.
On the other hand, the step 100 SI 00 further comprises a step 140 SI 40 of reading out the information recorded in the credit card 100 and when the D/L information is not recorded in the credit card 100, determining whether the relevant card number exists in the D/L data of the fee settlement terminal 200 or not, and a step 150 SI 50 of, when it is determined in the step 140 SI 40 that the card number exists in the D/L data, recording the relevant D/L information in the credit card 100. When the card number does not exist in the D/L data in the step 140 S140, the step 200 S200 is performed.
Here, each piece of D/L information included in the D/L data of the fee settlement terminal 200 may include the information for determining whether the D/L information should be recorded in the credit card 100 or not. In this case, a step in which the control means 290 checks whether the D/L information corresponding to the relevant card number includes the information for determining whether the D/L information should be recorded or not may be further comprised, and when the D/L information corresponding to the relevant card number includes the information for not recording the D/L information, only the small sum transaction is denied and the step 150 SI 50 can be omitted. Furthermore, the step 120 SI 20 comprises, as shown in Fig. 4, a step 121 S121 of receiving the security information on the basis of the read-out card number; a step 122 SI 22 of analyzing the read-out pre-approved amount information using the security information; a step 123 SI 23 of, when it cannot be analyzed in the step 122 S122, determining that the payment for the small sum transaction by the credit card is not possible and going on to the step 160 SI 60; and a step 124 SI 24 of, when it can be analyzed in the step 122 SI 22, determining that the payment for the small sum transaction by the credit card is possible and going on to the step 130 Si 30.
Furthermore, the step 200 S200 comprises a step 210 S210 of, when it is determined in the step 100 SI 00 that the small sum transaction is possible, determining whether the new pre-approval is necessary or not, wherein it is determined whether the new pre-approval is necessary or not depending upon the advent of the pre-approval updating date; and a step 220 S220 of determining whether the new pre-approval is necessary or not through the comparison of the read-out pre-approved residual amount of money with the predetermined minimum amount of money. The step 210 S210 is a step of comparing the date information counted in the fee settlement terminal 200 with the predetermined pre-approval updating date and granting the predetermined new pre- approved amount of money at the predetermined pre-approval updating date. Furthermore, the step 220 S220 is a step of, when the pre-approved residual amount of money is smaller than the minimum amount of money predetermined in the fee settlement terminal 200, executing the small sum transaction after the new pre-approval, and when the pre-approved residual amount of money is greater than or equal to the minimum amount of money, determining that the execution of the small sum transaction is possible without the new pre-approval procedure.
Furthermore, the step 300 S300 comprises: a step 310 S310 of, when it is determined in the step 220 S220 that the new pre-approval is not necessary, controlling to execute the small sum transaction; a step 320 S320 of subtracting the paid amount for the small sum transaction from the pre-approved amount of money read out from the credit card 100 and then updating the amount of money to record the resultant amount of money in the credit card 100; a step 330 S330 of recording the pre-approved amount of money subtracted depending upon the small sum transaction executed in the step 320 S320 along with the relevant card-unique information in the predetermined area of the storage means 220 within the fee settlement terminal; and a step 340 S340 of displaying the completion of the fee settlement on the screen.
Furthermore, the step 400 S400 comprises: a step 410 S410 of, when it is determined in the step 200 S200 that the new pre-approval is necessary, erasing the pre- approved amount of money and the pre-approved date recorded in the credit card 100; a step 420 S420 of controlling the reading-out/recording means 210 to read out the new pre-approval information stored in the storage means 220; a step 430 S430 of recording the newly pre-approved amount of money and the newly pre-approved date in the credit card 100 using the read-out new pre-approval information; and a step 440 S440 of going on to the step S300 of displaying the completion of the pre-approval update on the screen and then executing the small sum transaction.
Fig. 5 is a flowchart illustrating a method of settling the small sum transaction in the pre-approval server according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 5, the method of settling the small sum transaction in the pre- approval server 300 according to the present invention comprises: a step 510 S510 of periodically or non-periodically receiving the card-unique information, the pre-approval information and the usage information due to the execution of the small sum transaction from the fee settlement terminal 200; a step 520 S520 of storing the card-unique information, the pre-approval information and the usage information received in the step 510 S510; a step 530 S530 of referring to the D/L database 340 for the new pre- approval information stored in the database 310 and determining whether the relevant card-unique information corresponds to the D/L information or not; a step 540 S540 of, when it is determined in the step 530 S530 that the relevant card-unique information does not correspond to the D/L information, determining whether the new pre-approval is available or not by comparing the usage-limit amount of money with the amount of money obtained by summing the pre-approved amount of money of the new pre- approval information received in the step 510 S510 and the total amount of money used by the relevant user within a time period for checking the usage limit; a step 550 S550 of, when it is determined in the step 540 S540 that the new pre-approved is available, granting the pre-approval number to the newly pre-approved amount of money to perform the new pre-approval; a step 560 S560 of storing the new pre-approval information in the step 550 S550 in the database 310 in correspondence to the card- unique information of the relevant credit card 100; a step 570 S570 of, when it is determined in the step 540 S540 that the new pre-approval is not available, adding the card-unique information of the relevant credit card 100 to the D/L data of the D/L database 340; a step 580 S580 of not allowing the new pre-approval and periodically or non-periodically transmitting the new pre-approval information added to the D/L data in the step 570 S570 to the fee settlement terminal 200; and a step 590 S590 of accumulating only the amount of money used by the user for a predetermined time out of the pre-approved amount of money for each user with reference to the database 340 in the step 520 S520 to be subjected to the post-payment. Furthermore, the method further comprises a step in which the pre-approval server 300 determines whether the information corresponding to the execution of the small sum transaction, periodically or non-periodically transmitted from the fee settlement terminal 200, is included in the D/L data or not, and when the information is included in the D/L data, the pre-approval server 300 adds the unique information of the information recording medium of the user to the D/L data and periodically or non- periodically transmits the D/L data to the fee settlement terminal 200.
Fig. 6 is a flowchart illustrating the D/L information management method in the fee settlement terminal according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 6, in the fee settlement terminal, the D/L information management method comprises: a step 700 S700 of determining whether the predetermined time for downloading the D/L information has come or not; a step 710 S710 of, when it is determined in the step 700 S700 that the predetermined time has come, downloading the D/L information for a predetermined time from the pre-approval server 300; and a step 720 S720 of updating the D/L information previously stored through the step 710 S710 with the downloaded D/L information using the first-in first- out method.
