Hierzu ist vorzugsweise eine Hardwarekonfigurationssoftware auf der Steuerung selbst bzw. verallgemeinert in jeder Baugruppe vorhanden, was sowohl für den Hersteller der Steuerung als auch für den Anwender die weiter unten aufgeführten Vorteile mit sich bringt und ein offenes verteiltes Automatisierungssystem ermöglicht.
