Definitions

  • the invention relates to a package for storing roll shaped products, said roll shaped products comprising a fibrous web, such as a wiping material, toilet paper, household paper or the like, said package having a front panel, a back panel, side panels, a top panel, and a bottom panel.
  • a fibrous web such as a wiping material, toilet paper, household paper or the like
  • packages for materials in roll form have consisted of a soft material, such as paper or plastic.
  • the material of the packages is used in the form of a continuous web or a pre-made bag.
  • the soft package is in the shape of a banderole or wrapping tape, thus failing to provide coverage for the top or the bottom of the packaged products.
  • the products may be exposed to contamination and other damage during storage, since neither top nor bottom is protected from the surrounding environment.
  • the fibrous web in the roll shaped products may thereby be less suitable for wiping purposes.
  • the banderole package is opened along the only joining on the package in order to remove one or more products, the package has served its purpose as protector and containing means for the remaining products. Hence, the remaining products are then exposed to the surrounding environment, which might be damp and dirty.
  • More recently developed packages for roll shaped products have top and bottom panels, which help to prevent contamination and thereby prevent degradation of the fibrous web in the roll shaped products during storage or in transportation situations before it has reached the consumer.
  • this type of package will protect the product during storage or in shops, the situation for the consumer will be similar to that described previously. After breaking the package and removing one or more rolls for usage, the remaining rolls have to be stored by the consumer. However, once the package has been broken, it can no longer be used as an adequate cover for the remaining rolls. In the storage situation, the package will still hold together, because there will be more than one joining line, not only along the front or the bottom panel of the package, but also on the top or bottom panel.
  • the package will still hold together, but there will be an opening at least big enough to extract one roll shaped product. However, where there is a place for exit this place can also serve as an entry opening for contaminants such as water and dirt. This can give a decrease in the strength of the roll shaped material and make the product less suitable for wiping purposes.
  • the present invention offers a solution to the problems associated with storage of opened packages containing multiple, shape stable products.
  • the problem is solved by a package as claimed in claim 1 and its dependent claims.
  • the invention relates to a package for multiple, shape stable products, such as roll shaped products comprising a fibrous web and being intended for use, for instance, as a wiping material.
  • the package for the fibrous web can be made of a soft wrapping material such as paper, plastic film such as polyethylene, or the like.
  • the package in accordance with the invention has a front panel, a back panel, side panels, a top panel, and a bottom panel.
  • the package comprises an opening means, having an open and a closed position, in order to facilitate the removal of at least one roll shaped product from the package. It is thereafter possible to reclose the package so that it is still able to fulfil the purpose of storing and protecting roll shaped products.
  • the wrapping material of the package allows the package to crumple and conform to the shape of any remaining products in the package when the opening means is reclosed.
  • the opening means may be a flap that is provided in or on the package by perforation or by arranging weakened sections in the package material.
  • the opening means may be a separate component or may be integrated with the package.
  • the flap When the package is opened, the flap functions as a lid.
  • the package In order to be able to reseal the opening so formed, the package is provided with a reclosable means.
  • Such reclosable means should make it possible to close the package after opening and to keep the package closed until there is a need to remove a further roll from the package. Therefore, the package and/or the lid is equipped with a reclosable means, allowing the lid to be reattached to the outer surface of the package.
  • the reclosable means may comprise an adhesive strip and/or a mechanical fastening system.
  • An adhesive strip may be arranged on the opening means and/or on a tab, which is placed on the opening means.
  • An adhesive strip may also be arranged on the package itself.
  • the co-operating parts of a mechanical fastening system may be arranged on the opening means and/or on a tab, which is placed on the opening means, and/or on the package itself.
  • the adhesive strip and/or mechanical fastening system may be applied to the entire tab or to parts thereof, as well as to selected parts of the opening means and/or the package. It may also be applied in any suitable regular or random pattern on the tab, the opening means and/or the package.
  • a mechanical fastening system may comprise a first member comprising fibre elements and a second member which is engageable with the first fibre elements.
  • An example of such a mechanical fastening system is a hook-and-loop fastener, commonly known as Velcro ®.
  • the opening means may be placed on one or more of the various panels forming the package.
  • the opening means may be arranged in the bottom, the top, a side, the front or the back panel or may extend over more than one panel, depending on what is the most suitable for a specific package.
  • the opening may, for instance, extend from the top to the front or the back panel.
  • the opening means may be arranged at a corner of the package, it may extend over all panels meeting at that corner.
  • the described invention relates to a package for containing, storing and protecting of roll shaped products.
  • the roll shaped products comprise a fibrous web in the form of tissue paper and/or a nonwoven material and are mainly intended for use as a wiping material or the like.

Description

    FIELD OF INVENTION:
  • The invention relates to a package for storing roll shaped products, said roll shaped products comprising a fibrous web, such as a wiping material, toilet paper, household paper or the like, said package having a front panel, a back panel, side panels, a top panel, and a bottom panel.
  • BACKGROUND ART:
  • In the past, packages for materials in roll form have consisted of a soft material, such as paper or plastic. The material of the packages is used in the form of a continuous web or a pre-made bag. In the first example, the soft package is in the shape of a banderole or wrapping tape, thus failing to provide coverage for the top or the bottom of the packaged products. In this case the products may be exposed to contamination and other damage during storage, since neither top nor bottom is protected from the surrounding environment. After contamination, the fibrous web in the roll shaped products may thereby be less suitable for wiping purposes. Furthermore, once the banderole package is opened along the only joining on the package in order to remove one or more products, the package has served its purpose as protector and containing means for the remaining products.
However, although this type of package will protect the product during storage or in shops, the situation for the consumer will be similar to that described previously. The package will still hold together, but there will be an opening at least big enough to extract one roll shaped product. However, where there is a place for exit this place can also serve as an entry opening for contaminants such as water and dirt. This can give a decrease in the strength of the roll shaped material and make the product less suitable for wiping purposes.
  • Accordingly, it can be concluded that there still remains a need to develop a package that will protect roll shaped products and facilitate for consumers to store an opened package containing roll shaped products.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
  • The present invention offers a solution to the problems associated with storage of opened packages containing multiple, shape stable products. The problem is solved by a package as claimed in claim 1 and its dependent claims.
  • The invention relates to a package for multiple, shape stable products, such as roll shaped products comprising a fibrous web and being intended for use, for instance, as a wiping material. The package for the fibrous web can be made of a soft wrapping material such as paper, plastic film such as polyethylene, or the like.
The wrapping material of the package allows the package to crumple and conform to the shape of any remaining products in the package when the opening means is reclosed.
  • The opening means may be a flap that is provided in or on the package by perforation or by arranging weakened sections in the package material. The opening means may be a separate component or may be integrated with the package. When the package is opened, the flap functions as a lid. In order to be able to reseal the opening so formed, the package is provided with a reclosable means. Such reclosable means should make it possible to close the package after opening and to keep the package closed until there is a need to remove a further roll from the package. Therefore, the package and/or the lid is equipped with a reclosable means, allowing the lid to be reattached to the outer surface of the package. The reclosable means may comprise an adhesive strip and/or a mechanical fastening system. An adhesive strip may be arranged on the opening means and/or on a tab, which is placed on the opening means. An adhesive strip may also be arranged on the package itself. Similarly, the co-operating parts of a mechanical fastening system may be arranged on the opening means and/or on a tab, which is placed on the opening means, and/or on the package itself. The adhesive strip and/or mechanical fastening system may be applied to the entire tab or to parts thereof, as well as to selected parts of the opening means and/or the package. It may also be applied in any suitable regular or random pattern on the tab, the opening means and/or the package.
  • A mechanical fastening system may comprise a first member comprising fibre elements and a second member which is engageable with the first fibre elements. An example of such a mechanical fastening system is a hook-and-loop fastener, commonly known as Velcro ®.
  • The opening means may be placed on one or more of the various panels forming the package. Hence, the opening means may be arranged in the bottom, the top, a side, the front or the back panel or may extend over more than one panel, depending on what is the most suitable for a specific package. Hence, the opening may, for instance, extend from the top to the front or the back panel. Moreover, if the opening means is arranged at a corner of the package, it may extend over all panels meeting at that corner.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS:
  • The described invention relates to a package for containing, storing and protecting of roll shaped products. The roll shaped products comprise a fibrous web in the form of tissue paper and/or a nonwoven material and are mainly intended for use as a wiping material or the like. This fibrous web may consist mainly of cellulose fibres or a mixture of cellulose and synthetic fibres.
  • The package according to the invention, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, has a front panel 1, a back panel 2, two side panels 3', 3", a top panel 4, and a bottom panel 5. The package for the fibrous web can be made of a soft wrapping material such as paper, plastic film, or the like. The plastic film may be made from polyethylene, polypropylene, or a similar suitable material.
  • The shape of the different panels 1-5 depends on the size and shape of the roll shaped products which are contained in the package. Moreover, the shape is also dependent on how closely the package is fitted to the roll shaped products. If the package is closely fitted to the roll shaped products, then the package will follow the contour of a stack of roll shaped products. The roll shaped products may be stored side-by-side in one line, in parallel lines, stacked end-to-end on top of each other, or in combinations of these configurations. All such stacking varieties give different shapes to the stack and subsequently different shapes to the package.
  • According to one embodiment, a stack has a base comprising a first pair of rolls 6', 6" and a further pair of rolls 6"', 6iv stacked on top of the first pair of rolls 6', 6", as shown in Fig. 1. The shape of the top and bottom panels 4,5 will be more or less oblong with curved ends. The curved ends follow the curvature of the rolls 6'-6iv. If the rolls are stacked side-by-side in longer parallel lines, the surface delimited by the curved ends of the top and bottom panels 4, 5 will be more extended, producing a more rectangular shape with curved corners reflecting the shape of the parts of the stored rolls 6'-6iv enclosed by the soft wrapping material. With respect to the side panels 3', 3", these will follow the shape of the top and bottom panels 4,5. If the top and bottom panels 4,5 have curved ends, then the shape of the side panels 3', 3" will be curved to follow the end contour of the top and bottom panels 4,5. The width, W, of the side panels 3', 3" will be the same as the width, W, of the front and back panels 4,5.
  • The package is further provided with an opening means 7, having an outer and an inner surface 11,12. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, the opening means 7 is in the form of a flap or lid that is provided on the package by perforation and/or weakened sections of the package. Thus, by opening the package along a number of lines 9', 9", 10 where the soft wrapping material is weakened and/or perforated, the user can obtain both a reclosable lid and an opening. The lid and the opening have dimensions enabling the user to extract at least one roll shaped product 6'-6iv from the package. The lid 7 may be formed from the same material as the package and may, thus, be integral with the rest of the package. Alternatively, the lid may be separately formed and may be attached to the package by means of welding, an adhesive, or the like. Hence, the term "integral" denotes that the lid and the rest of the package are made in one piece from the same material. In this case no extra material is added to form the lid by means of gluing, heat sealing or any other type of attachment method. The term "separate" implies that the lid and the rest of the package are formed from different pieces of material, from the same or from different materials. In this case the separate piece or pieces have been attached by means of an adhesive, heating or the like.
  • In order to reseal the so formed opening the package also needs means to keep the package closed. Therefore the package and/or the lid 7 is equipped with a reclosable means in the form of a reclosable tab 8. The lid 7 has an outer surface and an inner surface 11, 12, where the inner surface 11 is facing the products. The reclosable means 8 makes it possible for the user to perform the operations of opening and closing the package repeatedly.
  • The reclosable means 8 may, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, comprise an adhesive strip attached to an end portion of the outer surface 12 of the lid 7. The reclosable means may alternatively be attached to the inner surface 11 of the lid 7, or to other suitable parts of the outer or inner surface of the package along the edge of the dispensing opening formed by the lines 9, 9", 10 when the lid 7 is lifted, as shown in Fig. 2. In a further embodiment, the reclosable means may be a tab integrated with the lid 7 or forming a part of the package itself by being arranged at an edge of the dispensing opening. Alternatively the reclosable means may comprise more than one adhesive strips or tabs 8. The adhesive strip shown in the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2 is coated with an adhesive substance, and is designed to adhere to the outer surface of the package or to the inner surface of the lid 7.
  • The adhesive substance may be applied in the shape of one or more strips, an area or in a random or regular pattern on the tab 8 or on co-operating surfaces of the inner surface of the lid 7 and/or on the outer surface of the package. Suitable adhesive substances are polyacrylates or similar.
  • The reclosable means 8 may alternatively, or in combination with an adhesive fastening means, comprise a mechanical fastening system. Such a mechanical fastening system may comprise a first area on the lid 7 and/or the tab 8 that is attachable onto a second area on the package. When the opening means is in its closed position the first area is arranged over the second area in an overlapping configuration and the two areas are engaged against each other to close the package. The mechanical fastening system comprises a first member provided with a plurality of fibre elements and a second member provided with a plurality of fibre elements arranged to cooperate with the first member. The first member is attached to the second member as a result of fibre elements from the first member mechanically engaging fibre elements from the second member. The fibre elements of the mechanical fastening system may comprise fibres of the hook and loop type.
  • In the case where the inner surface 11 of the lid 7 and/or the tab 8 is provided with hook-type material, the package must be equipped with an area with loop-type material, and vice versa. The loop-type material is arranged on one or more suitable locations on the outside of the package where it can co-operate with corresponding parts of the lid 7 or tab 8, in order to facilitate that the hook material can be engaged with the loop material. Such a mechanical fastening system may be used on all embodiments described in this application.
  • The first member of the mechanical fastening system comprising hook and/or loop material may be applied as one or more strips, over an area or in a random or regular pattern on the inner surface of the lid 7, and/or the tab 8. The area on the package that is provided with the second member of the mechanical fastening system, comprising a hook and loop material, will be applied in a pattern so that it can be engaged with the first member in a suitable manner.
  • The package according to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 has a large surface'd front panel 1 and a correspondingly formed back panel 2, with curved side panels 3', 3", a top panel 4 and a bottom panel 5. The height H of the package will correspond to the height of each roll 6'-6iv multipied by the number of rolls stacked end-to-end on top of each other. Accordingly, in the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2, the height of the package is equal to two times the height of each roll 6'-6iv. The length L of the front and back panels respectively and the width W of the package near the curved side panels 3', 3" will depend on how many rolls 6 are stacked side by side. The shape of the curve or curves of the various panels of the package will also depend on the shape and stacking of the stored product. Factors to be considered in this regard are whether the rolls are compacted or not, the diameter of the rolls and the manner of stacking.
  • In accordance with the invention the package is equipped with a perforated, or otherwise prepared weakened line defining an opening means 7 for providing easy access to the products within the package. The opening must be big enough to allow withdrawal of at least one roll.
  • As shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, the opening means 7 can have two substantially parallel edges that coincide with the lines 9', 9" making up weakened sections for opening the package. The respective edges may coincide with or run substantially parallel to the line of intersection between a plane through the front panel 1 and a plane through the top panel 4 or the bottom panel 5 respectively. A further edge of the opening means 7 coincides with a further weakened section represented by the line 10. The line 10 may coincide with or be substantially parallel to the line of intersection between the front panel 1 and an adjacent side panel 3', 3".
  • This opening means 7 can be provided with a reclosable means 8 in the form of a tab or as a string of adhesive substance on the inner surface of the opening means 7 and/or a hook and loop material on the inner surface of the opening means 7. If the opening means 7 is provided with a hook or loop material this can be placed on the inner surface 11 of the opening means 7, with a corresponding area on the package provided with a co-operating part of the hook or loop material. Accordingly, if a reclosable tab 8 on the opening means 7 comprises hook material, the corresponding area on the outside of the package must comprise loop material, or vice versa, in order for them to work together to ensure that the package can be resealed or closed.
  • Fig. 2 shows the package with the opening means 7 in its opened position. This is achieved by gripping the recloseable tab 8 and pulling the opening means 7 upwards, in order to tear the package along the first second and third weakened lines 9, 10', 10".
  • Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of the package. The package is provided with top, bottom, front, back and side panels 1-5, as described in connection with Fig. 1 above. Fig. 3 shows a first section 15' of an opening means 15 located on the top panel 4 and provided with three weakened lines or edges. A first line 16 of the first section 15' extends along the top panel 4 in a direction parallel to an edge between the front panel 1 and the adjoining top panel 4. The distance between the first line 16 and the plane of the front panel 1 preferably exceeds half the width W of the package.
  • The first section 15' is further provided with a second line 16' and third line 16" which are inclined with respect to the first line 16 and are extended from the ends of the first line 16 to the periphery of the top panel 4. The enclosed angle between the first line 16 and the second and third lines 16', 16" respectively is preferably in the range 90° ≤ α < 135°. In the same manner as for the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the opening means 15 can be provided with a reclosable means 8 in the form of an adhesive substance and/or hook and loop material. The reclosable means can also be provided in the form of a tab 8 attached to the first section 15'. As shown in Fig. 4, the inclined lines 16' and 16" may also be extended from the edge of the top panel 4 into the front panel 1 or the side panels 3', 3", depending on where the inclined lines 16', 16" intersect an edge between adjacent panels. These fourth and fifth lines 17' and 17" may extend substantially parallel along the surface of the package in a direction mainly perpendicular to the top panel 4. The part of the panel delimited by the fourth and fifth lines 17' and 17" makes up a second section 15" of the opening means 15. The fourth and fifth lines 17' and 17" may extend across part of or the entire height of the package. Said distance should at least correspond to the height of one roll shaped product.
  • The lines 16, 16', 16"; 17', 17" of the sections 15', 15" making up the opening means 15 may have perforated and/or weakened sections. This also includes existing weakened sections along edges or sections where the blank used for the package has been folded.
  • Opening of the package in Fig. 3 is achieved by gripping the reclosable tab 8 and pulling the first section 15' outwards and upwards, in order to tear the package along the first second and third weakened lines 16, 16', 16". If required, in order to allow removal of one or more roll shaped products, the first section 15' can be pulled further upwards in order to open the second section 15" along the weakened lines 17', 17".
  • Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment of the package. The package is provided with top, bottom, front, back and side panels 1-5, as described in connection with Figs. 1 and 3 above. Fig. 4 shows a first section 20' of an opening means 20 located on the front panel 1, or on the identical back panel 2, and comprises at least three weakened lines or edges. A first line 21 of the first section 20' extends along the front panel 1 in a direction parallel to an edge between the front panel 1 and the adjoining top panel 4. The distance between the first line 21 and the plane through the top panel 4 preferably exceeds half the height H of the package. For packages having more than two roll shaped products stacked end to end, the distance should be at least the height of one such roll shaped product.
  • The first section 20' is further provided with a second line 21' and third line 21" which are inclined with respect to the first line 21 and extend from the ends of the first line 21 to the periphery of the front panel 1 where it joins the top panel 4. The enclosed angle between the first line 21 and the second and third lines 21', 21" respectively is preferably in the range 90°≤ α < 135° for a first section 20' of symmetrical shape. For the case when said first section 20' is not symmetrical, the respective angles between the first line 21 and the second and third lines 21', 21" can be unequal, for instance 90° and 135° respectively.
  • The inclined lines 21' and 21" can extend directly to the periphery of the front panel 1, as described above, but may also have alternative shapes. Each line can be initially inclined, followed by a transition to a further line in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the top panel 4. The lines 21', 21" may also extend in a curvi-linear shape from the ends of the first line 21 to the edge, or even have the shape of a continuous semicircular or oval line replacing the above lines 21-21".
  • As shown in Fig. 4, the inclined lines 21' and 21" may also be extended from the edge of the front panel 1 into the top panel 4' from the point where the lines 21', 21" intersect the edge between the adjacent panels. Hence a fourth and a fifth line 22' and 22" may extend substantially parallel across the top panel 4 in a direction mainly perpendicular to the front panel 1. The part of the top panel 4 delimited by the fourth and fifth lines 22' and 22" makes up a second section 20" of the opening means 20. The fourth and fifth lines 22' and 22" may extend across part of or the entire width W of the package.
  • In the same manner as for the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the opening means 20 can be provided with a reclosable means 8 in the form of an adhesive substance and/or hook and loop material. The reclosable means can also be provided in the form of a tab 8 attached to the first section 20', as shown in Fig. 4.
  • Opening of the package in Fig. 4 is achieved by gripping the reclosable tab 8 and pulling the first section 20' outwards and upwards, in order to tear the package along the first, second and third weakened lines 21, 21', 21". If required, in order to allow removal of one or more roll shaped products, the first section 20' can be pulled further in a direction perpendicular to and away from the top panel 4, in order to open the second section 20" along the weakened lines 22', 22".
  • Fig. 5 shows a further embodiment of the package. The package is provided with top, bottom, front, back and side panels 1-5, as described in connection with Fig. 1 above. Fig. 5 shows an opening means 25 located on the side panel 3" or on the identical side panel 3' and provided with three weakened lines or edges. A first line 26 extends across the front panel 1 in a direction substantially perpendicular the top panel 4. The first line 26 may be located at the edge where the side panel 3" joins the front panel 1, or be placed a predetermined distance from said edge into the front panel 1.
  • The opening means 25 is further provided with a second line 26' and third line 26" which may follow the curved edges of the side panel 3" of the package. The respective second and third lines 26', 26" may coincide with or be substantially parallel to the curved of intersection between the top and bottom panels 4, 5 and the side panel 3" respectively.
  • The opening means 25 can be provided with a reclosable means 8 in the form of a tab or as a string of adhesive substance on the inner surface of the opening means 25 and/or a hook and loop material on the inner surface of the opening means 25. If the opening means 25 is provided with a hook or loop material this can be placed on an inner surface of the opening means 25, with a corresponding area on the package provided with a co-operating part of the hook or loop material. Accordingly, if a reclosable tab 8 on the opening means 25 comprises hook material, the corresponding area on the outside of the package must comprise loop material, or vice versa, in order for them to work together to ensure that the package can be resealed or closed.
  • Opening of the package is achieved by gripping the reclosable tab 8 and pulling the opening means 25 upwards and outwards, in a direction away from the side panel 3" in the plane of the front panel 1. This allows the consumer to tear the package along the first second and third weakened lines 26, 26', 26".
  • Fig. 6 shows a further embodiment of the package. The package is provided with top, bottom, front, back and side panels 1-5, as described in connection with Fig. 1 above. Fig. 6 shows an opening means 29 located on the front panel 1 and provided with three weakened lines or edges. A first line 30 extends across the front panel 1 in a direction substantially perpendicular the top panel 4 from a position at or near the edge where the top panel 4 joins the front panel 1. The width of the first line 30 substantially corresponds to the width of the recloseable means 8.
  • The opening means 29 is further provided with a second line 30' and third line 30" on the front panel 1. The second line 30' may coincide with or be substantially parallel to the line of intersection between the front panel 1 and the top panel 4. The third line 30" may extend diagonally across the entire front panel 1. The respective second and third lines 30', 30" can extend from either side of a recloseable tab 8 of a predetermined width and attached to the opening means 29 across the first line 30. The recloseable tab 8 is located across the position where the front panel 1 joins the second side panel 3". The second line 30' extends from one end of the first line 30 to the position where the front panel 1 joins the first side panel 3'. Similarly, the third line 30" extends from the opposite end of the first line 30, diagonally across the front panel 1, to the position where the front panel 1 joins the first side panel 3'.
  • The opening means 29 can be provided with a reclosable means 8 in the form of a tab or as a string of adhesive substance on the inner surface of the opening means 29 and/or a hook and loop material on the inner surface of the opening means 29. If the opening means 29 is provided with a hook or loop material this can be placed on an inner surface of the opening means 29, with a corresponding area on the package provided with a co-operating part of the hook or loop material. Accordingly, if a reclosable tab 8 on the opening means 29 comprises hook material, the corresponding area on the outside of the package must comprise loop material, or vice versa, in order for them to work together to ensure that the package can be resealed or closed.
  • Opening of the package in Fig. 6 is achieved by gripping the reclosable tab 8 and pulling the opening means 29 upwards and outwards, in a direction away from the side panel 3" and the plane of the front panel 1. This allows the consumer to tear the package along the first second and third weakened lines 30, 30', 30".
  • Fig. 7 shows a further embodiment of the package, wherein the roll shaped products are stacked side by side in two lines, each line provided with three roll shaped products. Obviously this embodiment can be extended to include one or more lines, as well as longer lines. The embodiment also covers packages with more than one layer of products, stacked end to end.
  • The package according to the invention, as shown in Fig 7, has a front panel 33, a back panel 34, two side panels 35, 36, a top panel 37, and a bottom panel 38. The front panel 33 is equipped with a perforated, or otherwise prepared weakened line defining an opening means 39 for providing easy access to the products within the package. The opening means may be reclosed by means of a recloseable tab 40. The opening must be big enough to allow withdrawal of at least one roll shaped product.
  • Fig. 7 shows an opening means 39 located on the front panel 33 and provided with three weakened lines or edges. A first line 41 extends across the front panel 1 in a direction substantially perpendicular the side panel 35. The first line 41 may be located at an edge where the top panel 37 joins the front panel 33, or be placed a predetermined distance from said edge into the front panel 33. The length of the said first line 41 may be no less than the width of the recloseable tab 40 up to the diameter of one roll shaped product. The opening means 39 is further provided with a second line 41' and third line 41" which are inclined to the first line 41. The second line 41' and third line 41" may extend from either end of said first line 41 and terminate on or near the edges between the front panel 33 and the opposing side panels 35, 36. The resulting size of the opening created by the opening means 39 must allow the removal of at least one roll shaped product.
  • Alternatively, the weakened line may extend along, or run parallel to, the edge between the front and top panels 33, 37, follow the curvature of the corners of the products and terminate on or near the edges between the front panel 33 and the opposing side panels 35, 36. Again, the resulting size of the opening must allow the removal of at least one roll shaped product.
  • The opening means 39 can be provided with a reclosable means 8 in the form of a tab or as a string of adhesive substance on the inner surface of the opening means 39 and/or a hook and loop material on the inner surface of the opening means 39. If the opening means 39 is provided with a hook or loop material this can be placed on an inner surface of the opening means 39, with a corresponding area on the package provided with a co-operating part of the hook or loop material. Accordingly, if a reclosable tab 8 on the opening means 39 comprises hook material, the corresponding area on the outside of the package must comprise loop material, or vice versa, in order for them to work together to ensure that the package can be resealed or closed.
  • Opening of the package in Fig. 7 is achieved by gripping the recloseable tab 8 and pulling the opening means 39 upwards, away from the plane of the front panel 33, in order to tear the package along the first second and third weakened lines 41, 41', 41".
  • The invention using mechanical fastening system is not limited to the embodiment shown here but the hook and loop can be designed in various ways to form an engageable fastening system.
