Definitions
- Such a mobile radio terminal is known from the prior art.
- Mobile radio terminals in particular mobile telephones, are being miniaturized more and more in order to make it easier for a user to carry and use such a terminal unhindered in almost any situation in life.
- Mobile radio terminals have already been miniaturized to such an extent that they can be worn in the style of a wristwatch on a body part, for example on the wrist, of a user. With such extensive miniaturization, however, the problem arises that sufficient space must be provided for a transmitting / receiving antenna suitable for transmitting and receiving mobile radio signals. This applies both to flat antennas (planar antennas) and to helical antennas.
- These effects can greatly reduce the reception sensitivity of a miniaturized mobile terminal worn on the body.
- these effects mean that the mobile radio terminal must always transmit mobile radio signals with an increased transmission power, which leads to an increased energy requirement and therefore to shorter talktime times.
- the damping or absorption effects can lead to a mismatching of the antenna.
- Such a positioning of the transmitting / receiving antenna in the area of the transparent cover ensures that the transmitting / receiving antenna is at the greatest possible distance from the part of the body on which the mobile radio terminal is carried by the user. This makes it possible to cause the signal transmission caused by the user's body part and impair it, i.e. attenuating or absorbing effects to a large extent, so that on the one hand a high quality reception of mobile radio signals is possible and on the other hand a radiation of mobile radio signals with relatively low transmission power leads to reliable signal transmission.
- the invention leads to the advantage that when mobile radio signals are emitted with the maximum available transmission power - due to the above-mentioned reduction in the effects affecting signal transmission - a larger proportion of the transmission power can be received by a base station, so that the link budget can be received by the base station Invention is improved.
- the measure according to the invention of arranging the transmitting / receiving antenna in the region of the transparent cover increases the risk of mismatching the antenna in the event that such a mobile radio terminal is at one time on the body of a user and another time at a greater distance from the body of a user User is largely reduced.
- this term also includes a device for combined display and input of information, for example a touchscreen, in addition to a conventional display designed solely for displaying information.
- transmit / receive antenna used in relation to the invention is intended to include antennas, which are only active in transmit mode or only in receive mode or both in transmit and receive mode.
- the transparent cover can be assigned directly to the display device or can be formed as part of the housing.
- the transmitting / receiving antenna can be designed as a web made of electrically conductive material. It is thus possible to produce the web from a wire material, for example from copper, silver, gold. This manufacturing variant offers the possibility of an inexpensive implementation. Furthermore, in the case of a transmission / reception antenna designed according to this production variant, relatively high currents can be fed in, for example in the range of several 100 mA, which makes it possible to deliver high transmission powers.
- the invention can provide that the web is made of transparent electrical conductive material, in particular made of indium tin oxide (ITO).
- ITO indium tin oxide
- the path of the transmitting / receiving antenna can be made of wire material in an area near a feed point due to the high currents that occur there, and can then be made of transparent material in its further course. It is also possible to equip a mobile radio terminal with several antennas, for example for different frequency bands or for antenna diversity / polarization diversity, at least one of which is designed according to the invention with a path in the region of the transparent cover.
- the web is arranged at least in sections on the side of the transparent cover facing the housing interior. It is thus possible to attach the sheet of electrically conductive material to the inside of the transparent cover, for example a transparent plastic pane or a transparent glass pane. This can be done for example by gluing, vapor deposition, galvanic application, sputtering or the like.
- the web is integrated at least in sections in the transparent cover. This measure further reduces the disturbing damping or absorption effects of the part of the body on which the mobile radio terminal is worn.
- the web at least in sections on the side of the transparent cover facing away from the interior of the housing is arranged.
- the web is presented to the outside of the mobile radio terminal and is therefore possibly exposed to mechanical influences.
- the path is sufficiently stable, destruction due to mechanical influences can be largely ruled out, while at the same time the distance between the body and the transmitting / receiving antenna can be further increased in favor of less impairments and better transmission / reception quality of mobile radio signals.
- the web of electrically conductive material can be provided directly in or on the transparent cover.
- the web is arranged at least in sections in a substrate layer.
- the substrate layer can be arranged in a region close to the transparent cover, it can be coupled to the transparent cover or it can be embedded in the latter.
- the web is essentially flat. This is the case when the web forms a transmitting / receiving antenna designed as a planar antenna. It is equally possible that the path has a curved, in particular helical, course.
- the web runs at least in sections in an edge region close to the outer contour of the transparent cover. This ensures that the Readability of the field of vision of the display device, in which the information is to be displayed to the user, such as a currently selected subscriber number, menu data, information on an incoming call, etc., is not impaired by the train. This is particularly advantageous if the web is made of a non-transparent material.
- the display device can be read sufficiently well in a further development of the invention by at least viewing the display to recognize the displayed information in sections runs between at least two symbol line areas of the display device provided for displaying symbols.
- the contacting of the transmitting / receiving antenna arranged in the area of the transparent cover it can be provided that this is produced by conventional hard wiring and that the hard-wired contacting transmits the received or to be transmitted signals to the transmitting / receiving device or from this can be done.
- the transmitting / receiving antenna is electrically connected to the transmitting / receiving unit by at least one contact, preferably a spring contact.
- This measure offers advantages in particular in the assembly of the mobile radio terminal.
- the arrangement of the contact relative to the transmitting / receiving antenna can vary. It is thus possible for the at least one contact to be arranged in the edge region of the transparent cover that is close to the outer contour. As an alternative to this, it is possible for the at least one contact to be arranged in the central region of the transparent cover.
- the transmission / reception characteristics of the transmission / reception antennas can also be improved by selecting suitable materials for the components of the mobile radio terminal.
- the transparent cover or the and a volume area close to the transparent cover and / or the substrate layer is made of a material, preferably of plastic or glass, the dielectric constant of which is based on the transmission and reception of mobile radio signals is matched in the form of electromagnetic radiation.
- the transmitting / receiving antenna and other conductive surfaces of the mobile radio terminal are arranged from one another. Because of this relationship, it can be provided in a development of the invention that the distance between the antenna and a ground surface assigned to the mobile radio terminal, in particular on a printed circuit board assigned to the mobile radio terminal, is based on the transmission and reception of mobile radio signals in the form of electromagnetic Radiation is matched. In order to minimize undesirable interactions between the transmitting / receiving antenna and the electronics of the mobile radio terminal, it can be provided that a further layer for shielding is provided between the transmitting / receiving antenna and the electronics.
- These can also be high-frequency shields, which encapsulate electronic components on the circuit board.
- a mobile terminal according to the invention is generally designated 10.
- This mobile radio terminal 10 is miniaturized in such a way that it can be worn in the style of a wristwatch on a wrist, not shown, of a user.
- a bracelet 14 with a first bracelet section 14 1 and a second bracelet section 14 2 is attached to a housing 12 of the mobile radio terminal 10, which bracelet with a not shown Closure in a conventional manner as a watch band can be handled.
- the housing 12 includes a housing interior 16 in which, among other things, a circuit board 18 is arranged.
- a display device 20 is attached to the printed circuit board 18 and is controlled via circuit electronics (not shown) implemented on the printed circuit board 18.
- the underside 22 of the circuit board 18 is formed with an essentially continuous ground surface for the circuit electronics, not shown.
- a schematically shown spring contact 24 is also arranged at one end in such a way that it contacts the circuit board 18 for the forwarding of mobile radio signals.
- the latter is electrically connected to a track 26 made of electrically conductive material.
- the web 26 is integrated in a glass plate 28, which covers a recess formed in the housing 12 with the contour 30.
- the glass plate 28 is transparent and covers the display device 20 in such a way that when the mobile radio terminal 10 is viewed, the information displayed on the display device 20 can be read, as representatively shown in FIG. 1 by the letters ABC.
- the web 26 is made of transparent electrical material, such as indium tin oxide (ITO), and, as can be seen in FIG. 1, is flat in the form of an inverted "U” as a planar antenna.
- ITO indium tin oxide
- the mobile radio terminal 10 further comprises individual controls in the form of push buttons 32 1 , 32 2 , 32 3 , which are designed to operate the mobile radio terminal, for example to select individual numbers, to initiate a call setup, to end a call, to activate a menu or the like. Furthermore, the mobile radio terminal 10 comprises an earpiece, which is arranged for the output of acoustic signals under the slots 34 in the housing. In addition, the mobile radio terminal 10 also includes a microphone, which is arranged under the housing slots 36.
- the measure according to the invention makes it possible to increase the distance d between the web 26 acting as an antenna and the underside 38 of the housing 12, so that influences which impair the mobile radio transmission, such as damping or absorbing effects of a user resting on the underside 38 of the housing 12 Body part, for example a wrist, can be largely reduced due to the increased distance d. Furthermore, this measure makes it possible to make the distance e between the web 26 and the ground surface 22 sufficiently large, so that there is also a favorable radiation behavior of the web 26 acting as an antenna.
- Figures 3 and 4 show a second embodiment of the present invention.
- the same reference numerals are used for the same components as in the first exemplary embodiment, but increased by the number 100. A detailed description of these components to avoid repetitions is avoided.
- the transmitting / receiving antenna in FIG. 3 is not formed by a flat web 26 made of transparent material as in FIGS. 1 and 2 which is integrated in the glass plate 28, but that it is attached to the underside 140 of the glass plate 128 in the housing interior 116 and is designed as a wire 142. Starting from the spring contact 124, this wire 142 runs essentially parallel to the contour 130 in a region of the glass plate 128 that is close to the contour.
- this embodiment of the invention it is ensured that the transmitting / receiving antenna formed by the wire 142 is at a large distance d 'from the underside 138 of the housing and a suitable distance e' from the ground surface 122.
- this variant of the invention is less expensive to manufacture, since only a simple wire path can be attached to the underside 140 of the glass plate 128.
- wire path 142 in a helical shape.
- wire path 142 into the glass 128, similar to the first exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the invention shows a way in which, in particular in the case of a miniaturized mobile radio terminal worn on the body of a user, a transmitting / receiving antenna can be arranged in such a way that the attenuation caused by the body impairments in mobile radio signal transmission caused by absorbing effects can be largely eliminated.

Such a mobile radio terminal is known from the prior art. Mobile radio terminals, in particular mobile telephones, are being miniaturized more and more in order to make it easier for a user to carry and use such a terminal unhindered in almost any situation in life. Mobile radio terminals have already been miniaturized to such an extent that they can be worn in the style of a wristwatch on a body part, for example on the wrist, of a user. With such extensive miniaturization, however, the problem arises that sufficient space must be provided for a transmitting / receiving antenna suitable for transmitting and receiving mobile radio signals. This applies both to flat antennas (planar antennas) and to helical antennas. Furthermore, with such a configuration of a mobile radio terminal as a device that can be worn on a body part, the problem arises that the transmitting / receiving antenna is positioned at a sufficient distance from the body part must be on which the miniaturized mobile terminal is worn. This is necessary because the body part of the user, on which the mobile radio terminal is carried, dampens the mobile radio signals to be received or absorbs a part of the radiated power of transmitted mobile radio signals. These effects can greatly reduce the reception sensitivity of a miniaturized mobile terminal worn on the body. In addition, these effects mean that the mobile radio terminal must always transmit mobile radio signals with an increased transmission power, which leads to an increased energy requirement and therefore to shorter talktime times. In addition, the damping or absorption effects can lead to a mismatching of the antenna.
In contrast, it is an object of the present invention to provide a mobile radio terminal of the type described in the introduction, in which damping or absorption effects of the body can be minimized despite miniaturization.
- a housing with a housing interior,
- a transmitting / receiving device at least partially arranged in the housing interior for transmitting and / or receiving mobile radio signals,
- an at least partially arranged in the housing interior display device for displaying information and
- a transmitting / receiving antenna assigned to the transmitting / receiving device,
Such a positioning of the transmitting / receiving antenna in the area of the transparent cover ensures that the transmitting / receiving antenna is at the greatest possible distance from the part of the body on which the mobile radio terminal is carried by the user. In other words, the invention leads to the advantage that when mobile radio signals are emitted with the maximum available transmission power - due to the above-mentioned reduction in the effects affecting signal transmission - a larger proportion of the transmission power can be received by a base station, so that the link budget can be received by the base station Invention is improved.
Furthermore, the measure according to the invention of arranging the transmitting / receiving antenna in the region of the transparent cover increases the risk of mismatching the antenna in the event that such a mobile radio terminal is at one time on the body of a user and another time at a greater distance from the body of a user User is largely reduced.
When reference is made to a display device in relation to the invention, this term also includes a device for combined display and input of information, for example a touchscreen, in addition to a conventional display designed solely for displaying information. The term transmit / receive antenna used in relation to the invention is intended to include antennas, which are only active in transmit mode or only in receive mode or both in transmit and receive mode. It should also be pointed out that the transparent cover can be assigned directly to the display device or can be formed as part of the housing.
Im folgenden werden Weiterbildungen der Erfindung diskutiert.Further developments of the invention are discussed below.
According to the invention, the transmitting / receiving antenna can be designed as a web made of electrically conductive material. However, in order not to make the transmitting / receiving antenna arranged in the area of the transparent cover visible to the user and thereby avoid impairing the external appearance of the mobile radio terminal or the readability of the display device, the invention can provide that the web is made of transparent electrical conductive material, in particular made of indium tin oxide (ITO). This measure makes it possible to form the web over a large area in the region of the transparent cover and nevertheless to ensure that the information displayed by means of the display device can be easily read. With this solution, however, it should be noted that the antenna has a sufficiently high impedance so that the currents flowing in the path can be kept small enough.
In addition to the possibilities discussed above for forming the web from wire material or from transparent electrically conductive material, combinations thereof are also possible in further developments of the invention. For example, the path of the transmitting / receiving antenna can be made of wire material in an area near a feed point due to the high currents that occur there, and can then be made of transparent material in its further course. It is also possible to equip a mobile radio terminal with several antennas, for example for different frequency bands or for antenna diversity / polarization diversity, at least one of which is designed according to the invention with a path in the region of the transparent cover.
With regard to the arrangement of the web on the transparent cover, it can be provided that the web is arranged at least in sections on the side of the transparent cover facing the housing interior. It is thus possible to attach the sheet of electrically conductive material to the inside of the transparent cover, for example a transparent plastic pane or a transparent glass pane. This can be done for example by gluing, vapor deposition, galvanic application, sputtering or the like.
In order to further increase the distance between the body part on which the mobile radio terminal is carried and the transmitting / receiving antenna, it can be provided according to the invention that the web is integrated at least in sections in the transparent cover. This measure further reduces the disturbing damping or absorption effects of the part of the body on which the mobile radio terminal is worn. Likewise, it is possible according to the invention in this context that the web at least in sections on the side of the transparent cover facing away from the interior of the housing is arranged. In this embodiment, the web is presented to the outside of the mobile radio terminal and is therefore possibly exposed to mechanical influences. However, if the path is sufficiently stable, destruction due to mechanical influences can be largely ruled out, while at the same time the distance between the body and the transmitting / receiving antenna can be further increased in favor of less impairments and better transmission / reception quality of mobile radio signals.
The web of electrically conductive material can be provided directly in or on the transparent cover. However, it is also possible according to the invention that the web is arranged at least in sections in a substrate layer. The substrate layer can be arranged in a region close to the transparent cover, it can be coupled to the transparent cover or it can be embedded in the latter.
As already indicated at the beginning, it can be provided according to the invention that the web is essentially flat. This is the case when the web forms a transmitting / receiving antenna designed as a planar antenna. It is equally possible that the path has a curved, in particular helical, course.
In addition to various variations and combinations with regard to the arrangement of the web forming the transmitting / receiving antenna, which lead to an increase in the distance between the body part on which the mobile radio terminal can be carried and the web, there are further possibilities with regard to the arrangement of the web on the transparent cover. In one of these possibilities it is provided that the web runs at least in sections in an edge region close to the outer contour of the transparent cover. This ensures that the Readability of the field of vision of the display device, in which the information is to be displayed to the user, such as a currently selected subscriber number, menu data, information on an incoming call, etc., is not impaired by the train. This is particularly advantageous if the web is made of a non-transparent material. However, should it be necessary due to the frequency range available for the mobile radio signal transmission to provide a greater track length than is possible by the above measure of arranging the track in an edge area close to the outer contour of the transparent cover, it can equally be provided that that the web runs at least in sections in a central region that is distant from the outer contour of the transparent cover. This measure is not critical when using a web made of a transparent, electrically conductive material with a view to good readability of the display device. However, if the web is made of a non-transparent, electrically conductive material, for example a wire material or the like, the display device can be read sufficiently well in a further development of the invention by at least viewing the display to recognize the displayed information in sections runs between at least two symbol line areas of the display device provided for displaying symbols.
With regard to the contacting of the transmitting / receiving antenna arranged in the area of the transparent cover, it can be provided that this is produced by conventional hard wiring and that the hard-wired contacting transmits the received or to be transmitted signals to the transmitting / receiving device or from this can be done. Equally, however, also with regard to contacting be provided that the transmitting / receiving antenna is electrically connected to the transmitting / receiving unit by at least one contact, preferably a spring contact. This measure offers advantages in particular in the assembly of the mobile radio terminal. Depending on the desired control of the transmitting / receiving antenna or depending on the available frequency range, the arrangement of the contact relative to the transmitting / receiving antenna can vary. It is thus possible for the at least one contact to be arranged in the edge region of the transparent cover that is close to the outer contour. As an alternative to this, it is possible for the at least one contact to be arranged in the central region of the transparent cover.
The transmission / reception characteristics of the transmission / reception antennas can also be improved by selecting suitable materials for the components of the mobile radio terminal. In this connection it can be provided according to the invention that the transparent cover or the and a volume area close to the transparent cover and / or the substrate layer is made of a material, preferably of plastic or glass, the dielectric constant of which is based on the transmission and reception of mobile radio signals is matched in the form of electromagnetic radiation.
In addition, for the transmission / reception characteristic of a mobile radio terminal, it is also decisive at what distance the transmitting / receiving antenna and other conductive surfaces of the mobile radio terminal, such as a ground plane, are arranged from one another. These can also be high-frequency shields, which encapsulate electronic components on the circuit board. To reduce such interactions, it is also possible to arrange the printed circuit board in the mobile radio terminal in such a way that the ground plane lies on the side facing the transmitting / receiving antenna.

In Figure 1, a mobile terminal according to the invention is generally designated 10. This
The structure of the
On the
At the end of the
The
The
The
The measure according to the invention makes it possible to increase the distance d between the
Figures 3 and 4 show a second embodiment of the present invention. The same reference numerals are used for the same components as in the first exemplary embodiment, but increased by the number 100. A detailed description of these components to avoid repetitions is avoided.
The essential difference between the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2 and the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 3 and 4 is that the transmitting / receiving antenna in FIG. 3 is not formed by a
In this embodiment of the invention it is ensured that the transmitting / receiving antenna formed by the
Of course, it is also possible to form the
The invention shows a way in which, in particular in the case of a miniaturized mobile radio terminal worn on the body of a user, a transmitting / receiving antenna can be arranged in such a way that the attenuation caused by the body
