Abstract
The invention relates to a novel and inexpensive method for nitrating and aminating an aryl polymer and to the use thereof as a blend component for producing a blend polymer membrane. Such blend polymer membranes are used in membrane methods, especially as a polymer electrolyte in an electromembrane, for example in electrodialysis or in fuel cells.
Description
In European patent application 19813613.7, the nitrided PES is produced by adding nitric acid in concentrated sulfuric acid. However, the temperature in the reaction is too high. According to the literature, the PES decomposes in concentrated sulfuric acid at an elevated temperature.
There was therefore a considerable need for an economical process for the production of nitrated or aminated aryl polymers.
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of nitrated aryl polymers comprising the steps: a) dissolving aryl polymer in concentrated sulfuric acid at temperatures below 25 ° C. b) adding concentrated nitric acid at temperatures below 25 ° C. c) precipitates of the nitrated formed Aryl polymers in water and separate the precipitated nitrated aryl polymer.
The product obtained in step c) is then freed of adhering acid by repeated washing.
After the nitric acid has been added, the reaction mixture can be stirred at temperatures below 25 ° C. for a period of up to several hours, preferably up to 10 hours, before step c) is carried out. Here the temperature can be varied, whereby 25 ° C should not be exceeded.
The aryl polymer is preferably dissolved at 0-5 ° C in concentrated sulfuric acid.
