Beim erfindungsgemäßen Schienenkontakt ist mindestens ein Anschlussdraht eines elektrischen Bauteils des Schienenkontakts auf irgend eine Art und Weise mit einem Befestigungsflansch verbunden. Beim Abreißen des Schienenkontaktes durch herunterhängende Teile eines vorbeifahrenden Zuges bleiben die Befestigungsflansche in der Regel weiterhin am Schienenhals befestigt, der mit dem Befestigungsflansch verbundene Anschlussdraht hingegen reißt ab. Dadurch ist die elektrische Verbindung zwischen Schienenkontakt und Auswerteschaltung unterbrochen und sichergestellt, dass die Auswerteschaltung vom nun fehlerhaft platzierten Schienenkontakt keine Signale mehr empfängt und folglich keine inkorrekte Auswertung vornimmt. Das elektrische Bauteil ist beispielsweise die Empfangsspule des Schienenkontakts, die auch als Sensor bezeichnet wird. Die Verbindung des Anschlussdrahtes der Empfangsspule mit dem Befestigungsflansch kann auf mehrere Art und Weisen erfolgen. Bei einer Variante wird ein Teil des Anschlussdrahtes bei der Herstellung des Befestigungsflansches in diesen eingegossen. Beim Gießen des Befestigungsflansches wird ein Teil des Anschlussdrahtes z.B. in Form einer Schlaufe in die Form des Befestigungsflansches eingelegt und mit dem Ausgussmaterial übergossen, so dass der eingelegte Teil des Anschlussdrahtes sich im gegossenen Befestigungsflansch befindet. Eine weitere Variante sieht vor, dass beim Gießen des Befestigungsflansches ein Zusatzloch durch den Befestigungsflansch vorgesehen wird, durch das im gegossenen Befestigungsflansch der Anschlussdraht geführt werden kann. Eine weitere Variante sieht vor, eine Öse am Befestigungsflansch anzubringen, durch die der Anschlussdraht geführt werden kann.
