Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to an exerciser, and more particularly to a stepping exerciser having an adjustable mechanism for adjusting the moving stroke or the moving path or the stride of the exerciser.
- US Patent No. 5,383, 829 to Miller discloses a typical exerciser having a pair of foot supports movable along an elliptical moving path or an elliptical stride which may not be adjusted. US Patent No. 5,779,599 to Chen discloses another typical exerciser having a pair of foot supports movable along an elliptical moving path or an elliptical stride. The elliptical moving path of the exerciser may be adjusted by threading and unthreading the fasteners which may not be quickly operated or may not be quickly threaded and unthreaded relative to the elements that are required to be adjusted. US 6 080 086 describes an exerciser with foot supporting member constrained to move through an elliptical path of motion and adjustment means controlled via an interface located on a front portion of the exerciser. The exercisers should be stopped before the moving stroke or the moving path or the stride of the exercisers may be adjusted.
- The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages of the conventional exercisers.
- The primary objective of the present invention is to provide an exerciser including an adjustable mechanism for easily and quickly adjusting the moving stroke or the moving path or the stride of the exerciser.
- The additional objective of the present invention is to provide an exerciser including an adjustable mechanism for easily and quickly adjusting the moving stroke or the moving path or the stride of the exerciser without stopping the exercisers or while the exerciser is still operated.
- In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided an exerciser comprising a base including a front portion having a post extended therefrom, and including a rear portion, the post including an upper portion, a pair of cranks rotatably secured to the rear portion of the base at a pivot shaft, the cranks each including a free end, a pair of bars pivotally secured to the upper portion of the post, the bars each including a middle portion and each including a bottom end having a first pulley provided thereon, a pair of tracks engaged and movably supported on the first pulleys, the tracks each including a first end rotatably secured to the free ends of the cranks respectively, a pair of levers each including a first end pivotally secured to the bars respectively at a pivot pin, and each including a second end slidably engaged on the tracks respectively, and each including a foot support provided thereon, a pair of slides slidably received in the bars respectively, a pair of links each including a first end rotatably secured to the free ends of the cranks respectively and each including a second end rotatably secured to the slides respectively, and adjusting means for adjusting the slides relative to the bars respectively. The adjusting means may provide one or more motor devices coupled to the slides for moving the slides along the respective bars and for adjusting the moving path of the foot supports.
- The second ends of the levers each includes a second pulley provided thereon and engaged on the tracks respectively. The bars each includes a chamber formed therein for slidably receiving the slides respectively, the adjusting means includes a pair of bolts rotatably received in the bars respectively and threadedly coupled to the slides respectively, and rotating means for rotating the bolts to move and to adjust the slides along the bars respectively and thus to move and to adjust the second ends of the links along the bars respectively.
- The slides each includes a tube coupled thereto and threadedly engaged with the bolts respectively. The rotating means includes a pair of motors secured to the bars respectively, and coupling means for coupling the motors to the bolts respectively to rotate the bolts.
- The coupling means includes a pinion attached to each of the motors, a gear attached to each of the bolts, and a reduction gearing mechanism coupled between the pinion and the gear for coupling the motors to the bolts respectively.
- The bars each includes a sleeve slidably engaged thereon and secured to the slides and the second ends of the links respectively. The slides each includes a pole extended therefrom and engaged through the sleeve and the second end of the link. The bars each includes a slot formed therein for slidably receiving the poles of the slides respectively and for guiding the slides to move along the respective bars.
- The bars pivotally secured to the front portion of the base and each including an upper portion for being grasped by a user, and a switch provided on the upper portion of a first of the bars and coupled to the adjusting means in order to actuate the adjusting means without stopping the exerciser. The hands of the users that hold the upper portions of the bars may depress or actuate the switch in order to adjust the levers relative to the bars and so as to adjust the moving stride of the exerciser while the bars are swung or operated by the users.
- Further objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a careful reading of a detailed description provided hereinbelow, with appropriate reference to accompanying drawings.

- FIGS. 5 and 6 are schematic views illustrating the operation of the exerciser.

- Referring to the drawings, and initially to FIGS.1 and 2, an exerciser, such as a stepping exerciser, in accordance with the present invention comprises a
base 1 including a post 11 extended upward from or provided on the front portion thereof and including astay 12 extended upward from or provided on the rear portion thereof. A control box 10 or the like is disposed on top of the post 11 for controlling the operation of the exerciser, for example. Awheel 13 and a pair ofcranks stay 12 with apivot shaft 131 and rotatable about thepivot shaft 131. Thecranks axle 16, 17 attached thereto or provided thereon. Thewheel 13 is used for providing a resistive force against the operation of the exerciser. - A pair of
bars 2, 3 have a middle or upper portion rotatably or pivotally secured to the upper portion of the post 11 with one ormore rods 21, 31, and each includes ahandle more slots rods 21, 31, and each includes a bottom end having apulley 23 attached thereto or provided thereon. A pair oftracks respective pulleys 23, and each includes one end pivotally or rotatably secured to the free ends of thecranks axles 16, 17 respectively. A pair oflevers bars 2, 3 with apivot pin 73, and each has apulley respective tracks foot support 72, 82 provided on the middle portion thereof. - As shown in FIGS. 2-4, the
bars 2, 3 each includes acasing 27 secured therein. Abolt 90 is rotatably secured to each of thecasings 27 and includes agear 95 rotatably received in thecasing 27. Amotor 91 is secured in each of thebars 2, 3 and/or secured to therespective casings 27 and includes apinion 92 extended therefrom or secured to the spindle thereof and preferably engaged in thecasing 27. Areduction gearing device 93 is provided in thecasing 27 and couples thepinion 92 of themotor 90 to thegear 95 of thebolt 90, thus thebolt 90 may be rotated by themotor 91 via thepinion 92 and thereduction gearing device 93 and thegear 95. Aslide 96 is slidably received in each of thebars 2, 3 withrollers 98. Atube 94 is threaded with thebolt 90 and has one end pivotally secured to theslide 96, such that theslide 96 may be moved or adjusted along therespective bars 2, 3 by themotor 91 via the threading engagement between thebolt 90 and thetube 94. Theslide 96 includes apole 97 extended outward therefrom and slidably received in therespective slots bars 2, 3. - A pair of
sleeves respective bars 2, 3 and secured to therespective slides 96 with thepoles 97 respectively, such that thesleeves respective slides 96 and such that thesleeves respective bars 2, 3 by themotors 91. A pair oflinks 5, 6 each includes one end pivotally or rotatably secured to the free ends of thecranks axles 16, 17 respectively, and each includes the other end pivotally or rotatably secured to therespective sleeves pivot poles 97 or with the other pivots, such that the other ends of thelinks 5, 6 may be moved or adjusted along therespective bars 2, 3 together with therespective sleeves motors 91. The foot supports 72,82 thus may also be adjusted relative to thebars 2, 3 in order to adjust the moving stride of the foot supports 72, 82, when thesleeves links 5, 6 are adjusted relative to thebars 2, 3. Aswitch 18 is disposed on one of thebars 2, 3,such as disposed on top of thehandle 32 of thebar 3. Theswitch 18 is coupled to themotor 91 and/or to the control box 10 for operating the motor 10 to adjust thesleeves links 5, 6, and thus the foot supports 72, 182 relative to thebars 2, 3. For example, when theswitch 18 is depressed once, thesleeves bars 2, 3 respectively, by themotor 91. Thesleeves bars 2, 3 respectively when theswitch 18 is depressed twice, and may not be moved relative to thebars 2, 3 when theswitch 18 is depressed three times. one or morefurther switches 19 may further be provided and disposed on thebars 2, 3, such as disposed on the other bar 2 (FIGS. 1, 2) for adjusting the resistive force against the movement of the foot supports 72, 82, for example. - In operation, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 5, and 6, the foot supports 72, 82 may be moved along an elliptical moving path or an elliptical stride when the
bars 2, 3 are moved or rotated about therods 21, 31 and when thecranks pivot shaft 131. The other ends of thelinks 5, 6 may be moved or adjusted along therespective bars 2, 3 by themotors 91 via thepinions 92, thereduction gearing mechanisms 93, thegears 95, thebolts 90, thetubes 94, theslides 96 and thesleeves sleeves rods 21, 31, the longitudinal axis R1 , R2 of the elliptical moving paths may thus be adjusted according to the users' requirements. Thewheel 13 may provide a resistive force against the movement of the foot supports 72, 82. - It is to be noted that the
motor 91 may still be actuated to adjust the thesleeves links 5, 6, and thus the foot supports 72, 82 relative to thebars 2, 3 while thebars 2, 3 are operated or are swung by the users, or while the exerciser is still operated or actuated. Theswitches handles - Accordingly, the stepping exerciser in accordance with the present invention includes an adjustable mechanism for easily and quickly adjusting the moving stroke or the moving path or the stride of the exerciser without stopping the exerciser, or while the exerciser is still operated.
- Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made by way of example only and that numerous changes in the detailed construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Claims (12)
- An exerciser comprising:a base (1) including a front portion (11),a pair of bars (2, 3) pivotally secured to said front portion of said base and each including an upper portion (22, 32) for being grasped by a user,a pair of levers (7, 8) movably supported on said base and each including a foot support provided thereon,means for coupling said bars to said levers and to move said levers and said foot supports in a reciprocating action (41, 42, 5, 6, 13, 14, 15),means for adjusting said levers relative to said bars in order to adjust said foot supports relative to said bars (5, 6) and
   a switch (18, 19) provided on said upper portion of a first of said bars for operating said adjusting means in order to actuate said adjusting means without stopping said exerciser. - The exerciser according to claim 1, wherein said bars (7, 8) each includes a slide (96) slidably received therein, said coupling means is provided for coupling said slides of said bars to said levers respectively.
- The exerciser according to claim 2, wherein said adjusting means includes a motor (91), means for connecting said motor to said slide to move said slides relative to said bars respectively.
- The exerciser according to any claims 1 to 3 wherein means are provided for exerting a resistive force against the movement of the foot supports and one or more further switches (19) are provided on said bars for adjusting said resistive force.
- The exerciser according to claim 3, wherein said bars each includes a chamber formed therein for slidably receiving said slides (96) respectively, said connecting means includes a pair of bolts (90) rotatably received in said bars respectively and threadedly coupled to said slides respectively, and said motor (91) is coupled to said bolts (90) for rotating said bolts to move and to adjust said slides along said bars respectively.
- The exerciser according to claim 5, wherein said slides (96) each includes a tube (94) coupled thereto and threadedly engaged with said bolts respectively, said connecting means includes a pinion (92) attached to each of said motors (91), a gear (95) attached to each of said bolts and coupled to said pinions respectively for coupling said motors to said bolts respectively.
- The exerciser according any of claim 1 to 5, wherein said base (1) includes a post (11) extended from said front portion of said base and having an upper portion, said base includes a rear portion having a pair of cranks (14, 15) rotatably secured thereto with a pivot shaft (131), said cranks each includes a free end, said bars are pivotally secured to said upper portion, of said post and each includes a bottom portion, said coupling means includes a pair of tracks (41, 42) having a first end rotatably secured to said free ends of said cranks (14, 15) respectively and having a second end portion movably supported on said bottom portion of said bars, and includes a pair of links (5, 6) each having a first end rotatably secured to said free ends of said cranks respectively and each having a second end slidably secured to said bottom portions of said bars respectively, said levers (7, 8) each includes a first end pivotally secured to said bars respectively with a pivot pin, and each includes a second end slidably engaged on said tracks (41, 42) respectively.
- Exerciser according to claim 7, wherein the bottom portion of said bars has first pulley (23) provided thereon, the tracks (41, 42) being engaged and movably supported on said first pulleys (23).
- Exerciser according to claim 7 or 8, wherein said second ends of said levers each includes a second pulley (71, 81) provided thereon and engaged on said tracks respectively.
- The exerciser according to any of claim 7 to 9, wherein said bars (2, 3) each includes a sleeve (51, 61) slidably engaged thereon and secured to said slides (96) and said second ends of said links (5, 6) respectively.
- The exerciser according to claim 10, wherein said slides (96) each includes a pole (91) extended therefrom and engaged through said sleeve and said second end of said link (5, 6).
- The exerciser according to claim 11, wherein said bars (2, 3) each includes a slot (24, 34) formed therein for slidably receiving said poles (91) of said slides (96) respectively.
