Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the placing in service of mobile radio telephones.
  • a method of initializing a mobile radiotelephone is generally known from the document US-A-5,603,084 .
  • a user When a user buys a mobile phone from a distributor, he can subscribe to a cellular network; it can also communicate various address data or connection parameters allowing it to call various servers such as Internet WAP portals, to determine the type of connections and their level of security.
  • the present invention aims at simplifying the procedure for bringing a radiotelephone into service.
  • the radiotelephone is automatically configured according to the commercial offer of the particular dealer.
  • connection parameters are transmitted by a short message service.
  • the commissioning of the radiotelephone is thus carried out without need for an explicit command for this purpose.
  • the radiotelephone terminal, or mobile radiotelephone, referenced 1 is represented twice, and precisely when it is in progress or end of manufacture in the factory, in the upper part of the figure, and when it has been delivered (arrow F1) at a distributor.
  • Reference 11 denotes a database server, managed by the manufacturer of radiotelephones 1, located or not in its premises and accessible through any network for the transmission of data.
  • the server 11 may for example be a WAP Internet portal, therefore accessible from a data terminal connected to the Internet 30, possibly through the PSTN switched telephone network or, in the case of FIG. radiotelephone network, such as the GSM network referenced 20.
  • the radiotelephone 1 comprising a CPU sequencer microprocessor 10, receives, in manufacture, in a non-erasable memory 2, a number called IMEI (International Mobile Identification Number).
  • IMEI International Mobile Identification Number
  • the IMEI number is also kept (arrow F0) in memory in a memory position 121, 122, etc. an area 12 of the database of the server 11.
  • the radiotelephone 1 is then delivered (arrow F1) to a distributor and assigned to a user who subscribes to a radiotelephone network, here the GSM network 20, connected to the Internet 30.
  • connection parameters to services or computer servers, such as WAP portals or others, offered by the distributor in question.
  • WAP portals or others
  • the identifier IMEI of the zone 12 is associated with an identifier of the distributor considered, in a memory position 131, 132, etc., of an associated zone 13 (vertical arrows).
  • the radiotelephone 1 and the distributor are thus connected.
  • the database of the server 11 also contains a zone 14 comprising, for the various distributors, the connection parameters for accessing the services they offer respectively.
  • the contents of the zones 12, 13 constitute logical links which make it possible, from an IMEI number of a memory position 121, 122, to address or point indirectly, through the memory position 131,
  • An associated subfield or table 141, 142, 143 contains a particular spectrum of connection parameters, as illustrated by the downward bending arrows from memory positions 131, 132 and subsequent to tables 141, 142, 143.
  • the memory positions of the zone 13 are in fact, basically, identifiers of the various tables 141, 142, 143, describing the corresponding spectra of services offered, that is to say that the explicit identification of the dealer is superfluous: the latter intervenes only by its service offering characteristics defined by one of the tables 141, 142, 143.
  • the user of the terminal 1, or a vendor of the distributor calls the server 11 and transmits the identifier IMEI (arrow F2) to address indirectly read the table 141, 142, 143 of the distributor, through the identifier 131, 132 of this table 141, 142, 143.
  • the connection parameters received (arrow F3) in return of the server 11 are stored in a memory 3 of the radiotelephone 1 as evoked upper.
  • the above data exchanges with the server 11 may, in general, be carried out through any network of data transmission and by means of any data transmission equipment, including as here the radiotelephone 1.
  • the server access network 11 is also the network of use of the radiotelephone 1.
  • a computer connected to the latter could likewise interrogate the server 11.
  • the response parameters of the server 11 could then be received by the computer in question and transferred to the radiotelephone 1, for example by a computer link, Bluetooth or other, or by transfer of a memory medium such as a card SIM.
  • the parameters could be directly received by the radiotelephone 1 through the GSM network 20 if, as here, the server 11 is connected to and previously received from the computer, the telephone number of the terminal 1 to call in return.
  • connection parameters define, for example, the telephone number of an Internet access service provider 30, access code words and passwords, a WAP gateway IP address, a URL or page address. reception, an analog or digital transmission mode or a security mode.
  • connection parameters may in particular be transmitted by one or more SMS short messages of the GSM network 20, received and recognized as messages received and stored in the memory 3.
  • the call to the server 11 and the automatic configuration of the radiotelephone 1 explained above are performed automatically when the user wants to connect to a computer network such as the Internet 30.
  • the processor 10 of the radiotelephone 1 detects for this purpose a corresponding command, for example the activation of an Internet key @, and then reads the memory 3 intended to contain the parameters downloaded from the server 11. If the processor 10 finds that the memory 3 is empty, and therefore it is a first call to the Internet 30, it sends a call to the server 11, whose call number has been stored in the radiotelephone 1, with a message containing the local IMEI identifier, or reading it in memory 2 to transmit it, and the parameter data in return are then stored in the memory 3.
  • a corresponding command for example the activation of an Internet key @
  • the server 11 responds to a call by first providing a list of services corresponding to the parameters contained in the table 141, 142, 143 addressed , displayed on a terminal 1 screen.
  • the user of the radiotelephone 1 selects all or part of the proposed services and transmits this selection to the server 11 which then sends back the connection parameters of the selected services.
