Abstract

Die Erfindung stellt ein Diagnosesystem für ein Densitometer in einem Bilderzeugungsgerät bereit. Ein Bilderzeugungsgerät mit einem Densitometer-Diagnosesystem kann ein Fotoleiterelement, eine oder mehrere Ladestationen, eine Belichtungsstation, eine Tonerstation und ein Densitometer aufweisen. Ein Densitometer-Diagnosesystem für ein Bilderzeugungsgerät kann einen Sender, einen Empfänger, eine Verstärker-Schaltung und eine Diagnose-Schaltung aufweisen. Die Diagnose-Schaltung verringert den Ansteuerungsstrom zum Sender im Densitometer um einen bekannten oder berechenbaren Wert. Die Ausgabespannung von der Verstärker-Schaltung im Densitometer wird proportional zur Verringerung des Ansteuerungsstroms abgesenkt. Zum Durchführen einer Diagnoseprüfung des Densitometers wird eine erste Ausgabespannung vom Densitometer ohne angeschlossene Diagnose-Schaltung ermittelt. Eine zweite Ausgabespannung wird vom Densitometer mit angeschlossener Diagnose-Schaltung ermittelt. Wenn die Differenz zwischen der ersten und der zweiten Ausgabespannung einer Spannungs-Spezifikation entspricht, ist das Densitometer funktionsfähig. Die Diagnose-Schaltung kann aus dem Densitometer entfernt werden, wenn dieses nicht in Gebrauch ist. Alternativ kann das Densitometer einen Schalter zum Abschalten der Diagnose-Schaltung aufweisen, wenn diese nicht in Verwendung ist.

The invention provides a diagnostic system for a densitometer in an image forming apparatus. An image forming apparatus having a densitometer diagnostic system may include a photoconductor element, one or more charging stations, an exposure station, a toning station, and a densitometer. A densitometer diagnostic system for an imaging device may include a transmitter, a receiver, an amplifier circuit, and a diagnostic circuit. The diagnostic circuit reduces the drive current to the transmitter in the densitometer by a known or calculable value. The output voltage from the amplifier circuit in the densitometer is lowered in proportion to the reduction of the drive current. To perform a diagnostic test of the densitometer, a first output voltage is determined by the densitometer without the diagnostic circuit connected. A second output voltage is determined by the densitometer with connected diagnostic circuit. If the difference between the first and second output voltages equals a voltage specification, the densitometer is functional. The diagnostic circuit can be removed from the densitometer when not in use. Alternatively, the densitometer may include a switch for turning off the diagnostic circuit when not in use.
