Description

Stand der TechnikState of the art

The invention relates to a filter which contains a ring-shaped between end disks formed filter medium in the form of a filter cartridge and is incorporated with a further functional component in a housing structure, according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such filters are known. They are used in particular for filtering liquids, eg. B. used for filtering fuel for an internal combustion engine. Such a filter is z. B. in the EP 715 873 A2 disclosed. This filter has at the bottom of the housing a drain plug for water, which is contained in the fuel and is gradually deposited and accumulated in the housing. A water sensor, also located in the bottom of the housing, determines the maximum permissible water level in the housing and signals the necessity of discharging the water from the fuel filter.

The placement of drain plug and water sensor in the housing bottom of the fuel filter requires, however, that sufficient installation space in the engine compartment of the internal combustion engine is available for these elements. However, the space in vehicles are often severely limited by other components. Therefore, the possibilities of meaningfully integrating the fuel filter in the internal combustion engine are limited by the illustrated geometry of the water drain and the sensor. In particular, there must be enough space under the drain plug be provided to provide a container for the drained water.

Dokument EP 0 754 483 A1 beschreibt ein Filtermedium, das eine Aussparung besitzt, die mehrere kleine Falten aufweist.document EP 0 754 483 A1 describes a filter medium having a recess having a plurality of small wrinkles.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide a filter which has a great freedom of design with regard to further components accommodated on the filter. This object is solved by the features of claim 1.

Vorteile der ErfindungAdvantages of the invention

The filter according to the invention has in a known manner a housing structure, the z. B. may be formed by a cup-shaped housing having an inlet and an outlet for the fluid to be filtered. In this case, a filter cartridge is installed, which has an annular filter medium. This can be z. B. consist of a filter fleece, which can be wound around a support body. According to the invention, a folded filter web is closed together annularly, wherein in association with the end plates, the filter cartridge is formed. The cylindrical filter cartridge must have a circular cross-section. Also conceivable are any other cross sections, z. B. an elliptical cross-section.

In the filter another functional component is provided, which takes on the filter a specific function. This is mounted in the housing structure and has according to the invention in a recess in the filter medium inside, which is provided for this purpose in the filter cartridge. As a result, the further functional component can be flexibly arranged in the housing structure, as a result of which the installation conditions of the filter at the installation location can be better taken into account.

According to the invention, the filter medium is formed by an annularly joined filter web, so the recess can be formed by a folding pocket with increased folding distance. The increased pleat spacing ensures a parallel to the axis of the filter recess, which causes no additional sealing effort on the filter medium, since this is still closed annularly. The Filter web can consist of filter paper or fleece. Also conceivable are multilayer filter media which may additionally have support layers or pre-deposition layers.

According to the invention, at least one of the end disks has a recess which corresponds to the recess in the filter medium. As a result, the further functional component can also be pushed into the recess from the front side of the filter cartridge. The recess in the end plate can z. B. be formed by a hole or a notch.

Particular embodiments of the invention provide that the further functional component is a sensor of a water level sensor and / or a suction nozzle for a liquid outlet. The liquid discharge is particularly suitable for removing separated water from the fuel of a fuel filter. In this context, the water level sensor can determine the maximum allowable water level in the housing structure of the filter. Since the separated from the fuel water accumulates in the lower part of the housing, appropriate requirements are placed on the installation position for the accommodation of the water level sensor and the liquid drain. Therefore, the geometric margin for the attachment of these components is limited anyway. Therefore, the recess in the filter cartridge in these components has a particularly advantageous effect, since the problem of limited mounting options is compensated.

A fuel filter for the filter cartridge with the recess advantageously has a housing pot and a housing cover, wherein the further functional element is mounted in the lid. The attachment in the lid is only possible in a hanging arrangement of the fuel filter with housing pot down when the cartridge has a recess. Otherwise, a water level sensor or a suction nozzle could not be passed by the cartridge, as this space is provided in the housing pot. However, the arrangement of said functional components in the lid is preferable not only because of the more favorable installation space conditions, but also because all the complex receiving structures for the inlet, outlet and the functional components can be integrated into the cover. The housing pot is thus a geometrically simple and easy-to-manufacture component, which makes the solution more economical.

A filter cartridge having the features of the invention is also placed under protection. This is to be installed as described in the filter according to the invention.

These and other features of preferred embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the claims and from the description and drawings, wherein the individual features are each realized alone or in the form of sub-combinations in the embodiment of the invention and in other fields and can represent advantageous and protectable versions for which protection is claimed here.
