Abstract

The device does not depend on a connection to the cylinder, but provides a calculated value for the quantity of gas remaining on the basis of measured parameters. The portable device provides an independent indication of the amount of oxygen remaining in a gas cylinder, whilst the external pressure is constant. It comprises a support (1) carrying at least one table of values, addressed by a cursor as a function of the pressure within the gas cylinder, and a fixed flow rate. A display window (3) shows directly the quantity of oxygen remaining within the cylinder as a function of these two values. The device may operate by use of a slide-rule type device whereby the cursor points to specific figures within a table. Alternatively the device may be an electronic processor with a memory, in which case the pressure and flow rate parameters may be entered via a keypad, and the resulting quantity of oxygen displayed on an electronic display panel.

Description

The present invention relates to a device portable acquisition of a value of autonomy of a oxygen tank.

The invention can be applied to the medical field and especially in the case of a transport of a patient under oxygen therapy. In such a context, the exact and certain knowledge of autonomy of oxygen is paramount.

There are already many devices acquisition of an oxygen autonomy value, such as for example US 4,876,903 A, considered as the most relevant prior art, in particularly in the field of scuba diving, but the constraints are then different from the fact that the gas pressure remaining in the bottle varies in depth function.

In the case of a pressure application constant atmospheric, the oxygen autonomy is directly related to the volume of gas remaining in the bottle and at the desired flow rate. This flow can be imposed by the patient's therapy, or defined according to certain criteria independent of this invention.

A formula, known to bottle users of oxygen, connects these different variables.

This formula is based on the law of Boyle Mariotte which states that the product "pressure" by "volume" a gas remains constant at a constant temperature. So, the volume of a compressed gas in a bottle varies from inversely proportional to the pressure. This law is checked for external pressure constant.

As illustrated in Figure 1, all oxygen cylinders generally used by rescuers, nurses, or other persons, include a pressure gauge plugged into the upper chamber holder's HP pressure which indicates at any time the internal pressure P in bars.

An adjusting screw R allows to fix and / or modulate the output flow of the bottle. This flow D can be monitored at any time by the flowmeter interposed between the HP high pressure chamber and the breathing equipment.

When we know the remaining pressure P, we can directly deduce the remaining volume V in posing P x V = constant.

The formula connecting the contents C of the bottle in liter V to the imposed flow rate D to give the autonomy time T is written as follows: C / D = T

Rescuers, nurses or others, generally use compressed oxygen cylinders normalized to 1m 3 or 3m 3 respectively corresponding to a volume of 5 or 15 liters.

For example, for a 5 liter bottle, if the gauge pressure indicates 100 bar, then 500 liters of oxygen available.

If the imposed flow rate is 5 l / min, we will have 100 minutes of autonomy.

Security imposes a reserve that can be fixed 10% of the theoretical requirement, which brings us to a autonomy of 90 minutes, or 1:30. The value of 10% is imposed today by the Ministry of inside but other training schools advocate a reserve of up to 30% of the theoretical value in autonomy.

This formula is simple and it is usually a question of the habilitation exam firefighters, paramedics and other users of oxygen bottles for therapeutic purposes.

Nevertheless, in the urgency of certain situations, this simple formula is sometimes forgotten or badly applied, which can lead to serious consequences.

The present invention provides a simple device, functional and portable to get fast and directly the oxygen autonomy from the gauge pressure and oxygen flow rate imposed by the desired application.

Thus, for example, the front side presents a table of values for a bottle of 1m 3 , that is to say 5 liters, and the reverse side presents the same table for a bottle of oxygen of 3 m 3 , or 15 liters.

A cursor 2 provided with a reading window 3 is able to move along the support 1 between two stops 4.

According to a preferred embodiment, the slider 2 includes two columns, a first column on which are reported the different values of P pressure remaining in the bottle, and a second column consisting of a read window 3.

He must then decide and / or apply a flow of oxygen D at the outlet of the bottle and then he's pointing cursor 2 at the table of hardware support values 1.

The user therefore places the window 3 of the cursor 2 on the column of flow D determined beforehand, then he finds, on the cursor 2, the line corresponding to the oxygen pressure P indicated by the manometer, and can read directly, on the same line and in the column of the window 3 the remaining oxygen time.

The times of autonomy indicated in the tables can advantageously take into account the margin of security of 10% deducted at the theoretical time.

The device according to the invention thus allows a direct and rapid reading that eradicates all risk of error related to a miscalculation.

In addition, if the oxygen flow D to be supplied change, the new autonomy would be quickly known by simply moving the cursor 2 to place the window 3 in the column corresponding to the new flow D.

The stops 4 frame the support 1. They on the one hand to maintain the cursor 2 on the support 1 of the slide, and secondly they can advantageously serve as a support for information various such as instructions or indentifiants.

According to a feature of the invention, the tables of autonomy values are made more readable by color codes to identify some crucial values. It is thus possible to anticipate a change of bottle for example.

In an alternative embodiment of the invention, illustrated in FIG. 4, the acquisition device a value of oxygen autonomy can be constituted by an electronic device.

In such a variant, the support 1 is a storage medium composed of at least one integrated circuit chip. The electronic support 1 comprises at least one table of values corresponding to a given oxygen bottle capacity, for example 1m 3 , and to a given safety reserve, for example 10%.

Nevertheless, the electronic support 1 can advantageously comprise a plurality of tables of values corresponding to a plurality of bottle with a plurality of safety reserves respectively.

The device according to the invention can then present the general form of a calculator electronic device with a reading window 3 and control keys 10.

The control keys 10 make it possible to realize an addressing of the storage medium 1 by the content by positioning a playback slider 2 on the memory box corresponding to the desired value. The read slider 2 is then constituted by a device for addressing a memory by the content, as is known in electronics.

Thus, a control key 11 can make it possible to select the bottle capacity used, then two other keys 12, 13 make it possible to indicate, through a keyboard numbered 14, the respective values pressure P bottle and D flow desired.

Finally, another control key 15 can allow to select the security reserve desired, from 10% to 30% depending on the applications.
