Abstract

A safety device has emergency recognition (13) and activation (9) devices. The device recognizing an emergency detects an abnormal occurrence in the area of an electrically driven coolant pump (7), whereupon the device for triggering action in an emergency increases reliability by effecting a mechanical link with a component driven by an internal combustion engine (1). An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine with internal combustion and a cooling system.
