Electrical, but especially electronic measuring, control, and Circuits, in particular including telecommunications equipment and installations are sensitive to transient overvoltages, as they in particular by atmospheric discharges, but also by switching operations or Short circuits in power supply networks may occur. This sensitivity has increased to the extent that electronic components, in particular transistors and thyristors; especially are increasingly used integrated circuits to a large extent by transient Overvoltages endangered.
To now electrical, but especially electronic measuring, control, and Regel Circuits, especially telecommunications equipment and in general: wherever electronic components are used, to protect against transient overvoltages are overvoltage protection devices been developed and known for more than twenty years.
An essential component of an overvoltage protection device is at least a spark gap, which at a certain overvoltage, the response voltage. responds and thus prevents that in by such Surge protector protected area overvoltages occur which are greater than the response voltage of the spark gap.
Initially, it has been stated that the overvoltage protection device according to the invention two electrodes and one between the electrodes and whose spark horns have effective air breakdown spark gap. From DE 44 02 615 C2 an overvoltage protection device is known, having two narrow electrodes, each angularly formed are and in each case a sparking horn and an angled connecting leg exhibit. Furthermore, the well-known Surge protection device at least when first responding a high surge current carrying capacity and a high net follow current extinguishing capability. Problems always occur when an arc is at one Gain seizes, which can lead to damage of the electrodes.
Furthermore, from DE 196 04 947

The overvoltage protection device according to the invention, in which the previously solved and shown task is solved, characterized that the second sparking horn formed annular segment and the the first sparking horn facing surface of the second sparking horn truncated is trained. Preferably, the second sparking horn extends over an angle of about 210 ° to 270 °, in particular over an angle from about 240 °.
Characterized in that the second sparking horn not circular but only circular segment is formed, there is a free space that serves that there is the response of the overvoltage protection device the generated arc can cool plasma. This will in particular, the reticule current extinguishing capacity of the invention Overvoltage protection device improved.
In the invention, the first electrode with the first spark horn a Center electrode, while the second electrode with the second spark horn represents an outer electrode. Due to the concentric arrangement of second spark horn around the first spark horn results around the central axis the two electrodes partially encircling horn spark gap.
In the overvoltage protection device according to the invention is characterized the horn spark gap which partly surrounds the central axis of the electrodes by a very high surge current carrying capacity and also a high Reticule stream extinguishing capability. Furthermore, it results from the concentric Arrangement of the second sparking horn around the first sparking horn a very low height of the surge protector and a simpler Construction.
Kunststoff. Hierdurch wird das Löschverhalten der Überspannungsschutzeinrichtung
nach dem Ansprechen verbessert.A preferred embodiment of the overvoltage protection device according to the invention
is further characterized in that in the ignition area
between the two spark horns at least one Zündsteg from one
electrically insulating material is provided. About the Zündsteg is a
Floating discharge triggered, which, once addressed, at a relatively constant
low response voltage to ignite the air breakdown spark gap
leads with relatively high surge current carrying capacity. As in the inventive
Overvoltage protection device the spark gap in contrast
to the known from DE 196 04 947
The overvoltage protection device according to the invention has a known per se Way a first terminal area and a second terminal area on. Preferably, it is provided in this context that the first terminal area and the second terminal area on the same Side of the overvoltage protection device. This results in the Advantage that in the case of the response acting on the arc electromagnetic forces its movement from the ignition area in the Support expanded horn area.
The last described embodiment of the overvoltage protection device according to the invention is preferably further characterized in that the electrodes in the connection areas bores and / or passage openings have, in the terminal areas on the terminal areas outgoing connecting elements are provided, namely a PE connection element and a potential terminal, and preferably in a connection region, preferably in that for the potential connection element provided connection area, two connection options provided are. In this embodiment, therefore, not necessarily integrated in the surge protection device and projecting from this Connection elements may be provided so that the overvoltage protection device in itself may have a like disc-like or pot-like shape. Of course, in this case too, the electrodes must have connecting elements be connected, which can be used in the field of terminal areas, for example can be screwed. Moreover, it can be characterized by the fact that in the electrodes Through openings are realized, in a simple way a Ent- or Ventilation be realized.
Are in the overvoltage protection device according to the invention, as last described, both terminal areas and thus both connection elements provided on the same side, so it is recommended outside on the area the connection areas at least one preferably wave-shaped Bridge for increasing the creepage distance between the connection areas provided. In particular, if one of the two terminal areas has two connection options, it is advisable, the web wavy form and arrange between the terminal areas.
In the overvoltage protection device according to the invention, it is recommended itself, the second sparking horn on the second terminal area and thus on align the potential connector. This then means that the recess, which has the second spark horn, on the first terminal area and thus aligned with the PE connector.
The last described preferred embodiment of the invention Overvoltage protection device is preferably complementary thereby characterized in that the potential-connection element on the PE-connection element opposite side of the two electrodes is provided and preferably further characterized in that at least the second electrode and so that the second spark horn, preferably both electrodes and thus both Spark horns executed symmetrically with respect to the PE connection element and is arranged or are.
In the overvoltage protection device according to the invention, the housing a housing lower part and a housing cover, in which case preferably the lower housing part and the housing cover screwed together and / or can be glued together. Moreover, for protection against contact provided that the lower housing part and the housing cover do not contact the first electrode or the second electrode at any point; Preferably, between the first electrode and the second Electrode on the one hand and the lower housing part and the housing cover on the other at least one insulating part and / or an air gap provided. Is at the overvoltage protection device according to the invention, as described above, in the ignition area between the two spark horns at least a Zündsteg provided for triggering a sliding discharge, then recommends it is, integrally form the igniter with the insulating part. hereby can the number of components of the overvoltage protection device according to the invention minimize.
Moreover, it is recommended in the overvoltage protection device according to the invention to further improve the surge current carrying capacity and the reticule current extinguishing capacity spaced from the ends of the spark horns to provide a baffle plate against which an arc in case of response the overvoltage protection device is running. By using a baffle plate, the preferred - as well as the electrodes - made of a copper-tungsten alloy By the way, damage to the possibly made of plastic housing excluded. Further is influenced by the baffle plate of the energy conversion in the gas space. Of the Arc is divided in three by the baffle plate. There are two Arc areas and a current range in the baffle plate off. This creates two anode cathode cases and in addition an overall reduced Arc, because part of the current path runs in the baffle plate and no Plasma generated.
In order in connection with the overvoltage protection device according to the invention also to have a so-called "active" ignition aid available is in the area of the air breakdown spark gap and in addition to this provided a spark gap, which can be actively ignited, namely depending on a given ignition voltage. Preferably, the Spark gap between an ignition electrode and one of the two electrodes provided so that only one additional electrode, namely the Ignition electrode is required. The ignition electrode can be in a simple Realize this way that they from the housing and / or the baffle plate is formed, it then being understood that the housing and / or the Baffle each consist of electrically conductive material. For the rest, must be ensured in this context that neither the housing nor the Impact plate in electrically conductive contact with one of the electrodes. Of course, when an "active" ignition aid is provided, a corresponding ignition circuit for the spark gap available must stand.
Advantageously, the housing is to be provided with pressure equalization openings. Exists in the overvoltage protection device according to the invention the housing of a housing lower part and a housing cover, then It is recommended that the lower housing part and / or the housing cover, preferably the lower housing part facing at its the housing cover Edge, acting as a pressure equalization openings, preferably radially to provide running slots.
