Abstract

A method of manufacturing a continuous substrate by connecting sheet-shaped substrates and an apparatus for use in same, which are utilized in the field of working of metallic foils, composite film substrates made of metals and plastics, and heat resisting resin films of polyimides and the like. The method comprises using a connecting device equipped with a heat press, a substrate fixing device and an accumulator to put a resin adhesive layer between the trailing portion of a sheet-shaped substrate and the leading portion of another sheet-shaped substrate to subject the above portions to thermocompression bonding. Also, the method comprises continuously working sheet-shaped substrates connected to one another by actuating the substrate fixing device to keep the portions being subjected to thermocompression bonding stationary within the heat press when thermocompression bonding is effected, and actuating the accumulator to control the speed of conveying the sheet-shaped substrates on the downstream side to a predetermined one.
