Abstract

A method and system for providing and transmitting individualized traffic information from a traffic network to a user via a telephone network and at least one voice channel. Traffic information is requested by the user from an information center that is capable of searching a traffic database and includes a voice generator for transmitting searched traffic information to the user in spoken form using the voice channel. The user request to the information center is character coded and a reference code is assigned to the traffic information being searched responsive to the user's request (call) and then transmitted to the user.

Description

The invention relates to a method for providing and transmitting individualized traffic information in spoken form according to the generic term of claim 1 and a system for performing this method.

A variety of methods are known, traffic information in linguistic Form to make it available to interested users, especially drivers. To The transmission media used in these processes mainly include broadcasting, TV and other broadcast-capable media. This class of procedure is common that the current situation of the user, especially his current Location, the sender of the information is unknown and always all available Information is broadcast within a larger geographic area. A corresponding transmission of information to individual. In addition to the high load on the communication channel, the request would become a lead to significant overloading of the user, since he currently does not have a large number for him relevant information would be "filled in".

Methods are also known which allow an inquiry by the user and the information center taking into account individual problems enable the user. An example of this are so-called "hotlines" or "call centers" These are suitably equipped telephone exchanges that meet your needs accept the user and answer questions. Particularly Area of application Traffic information is a corresponding service offer for example, the cellular networks or automobile clubs are known. These offers are characterized by high service levels due to the manual provision of services Costs for the operator as well as ultimately for the user. Furthermore are automated systems known to the user in voice mode through a Guide the selection menu to select the desired information and to To make available. These voice dialogue systems are used in telephone networks For example, for timetable information, but recently also for Traffic information services used. Here the information in presented in linguistic form, menu control is typical in telephone networks possible by voice input and / or key press. The disadvantage of this known Systems is the depth and complexity of the menu, especially when demanding Applications such as the transmission of traffic information.

Both classes of procedures are characterized by the presentation of the information in spoken form. This provides acoustic information, especially while driving Form of presentation of information ergonomic advantages e.g. towards one visual representation in a display. The wording of the request in linguistic However, form is either expensive to process manually or complex and time-consuming in automated processing.

The object of the invention is an inexpensive, efficient and ergonomic Procedures and a system for performing this procedure while avoiding the to propose the disadvantages described above. The main goal here is that Communication of information as far as possible towards such traffic information limit that can actually be of importance to the user.

This problem is solved in a gammgs compliant method with the characterizing features of claim 1. Particularly advantageous features and variants and a system for performing this method are in the further claims described.

The required traffic information is provided and transmitted in a three-step process. In the first process step, the request for Traffic information transmitted to the information center, the request in character-coded. Form takes place and at least. Contains information about a location. The location position, advantageously this is the current location of the user, is a first selection criterion for the selection of the relevant traffic information the information center. By adding more information to the request, in particular direction of travel or already known or received by the user Traffic information, the selection can be further refined according to the invention and so the relevance by suppressing irrelevant or redundant information be further increased. According to the invention, the request is made in character-coded form, to enable automated processing. With the request in the Information center opens an order that receives a unique order number, which is referred to below as the reference code. In the second process step in the information center based on the information provided in the request researched the desired information in a traffic database and compiled. The information is given under this reference code in the Information Center provided, and a message with the reference code will appear transmitted to the user. In the third process step, the user calls the data that are ready Information stating the reference code via the voice channel of a Telephone network. If there is no relevant traffic information or in the Research specified error conditions have occurred, is in continuing education Invention provided that then special predefined reference codes to the user are transmitted, which contain a corresponding information, so that the process without establishing a voice connection and without the telephone charges incurred can be canceled.

With the described division into three process steps there are a number of advantages achieved compared to the previously known methods. First, the voice connection essentially used only for listening to the information. The whole time-consuming and possibly error-prone selection process in the voice channel is eliminated Information is presented compactly, efficiently and inexpensively. Second, the Selection process reduced to just one request, it is sufficient to enter one Location position. A lengthy, multi-stage interactive selection process as in Speech dialogue systems are no longer required. Third, the request and response are an exchange encoded information that is useful and inexpensive does not have the Voice channel, but as short messages via special data channels of the Telephone network can be processed. The so-called. Fourth, short message channel (SMS channel) in a GSM mobile network through the intervening process step of providing and Return of a "pickup address". (= Reference code) the conversation channel from the Be built from the user side. This is by far the procedure in the most expensive transfer step. The communication costs go therefore largely directly at the expense of the caller. Because modern telephone networks through the The possibility of providing special numbers with higher tariffs offer the billing of so-called value-added services, the service can easily be billed via the user's telephone charges. A special Fee collection or a contractual relationship between the user and Traffic information provider is not necessary. The service can can be offered to the general public without any problems, since with each use the Telephone charges can be charged. Fifth, the process offers the Another advantage that a voice connection does not have to be established at all if there is no information. The user does not have to be tedious and dodging costly through a selection menu just to find out that for his There are no traffic reports on the route.

The invention is illustrated below using an exemplary sequence according to the only one Figure explained.

The process begins with a request made by a user of the traffic information provides. "Inquiry" in the sense of the invention means that the user in addition to the pure Request for information also information for individualization his request to the information center. As basic information transmitted a location position. This will usually be your current location of the user, so that the individual research of the present Traffic information only the messages in the vicinity of this location be put together. However, the invention can also be used advantageously if the location is not the current location of the user. Consequently could also include information about the destination or information about the Traffic situation in areas in which vehicles are one Fleets are located.

The location is sufficient as a basis for the research, e.g. Query traffic information "within a radius of 50 km". Another refinement the invention is achieved when additional information such as e.g. Direction at of the request. With this information you can, for example Traffic jam messages in the opposite direction of travel can be suppressed. The The operating principle can also be advantageously expanded by adding several local positions, in particular a route will be transmitted.

Navigationsgeräte an. There are various options for entering the location position Invention. The location position could be, for example, a keyboard from the user can be entered. A typical application could be a query, for example display from PC at home or in the office. Suitable for use in the vehicle above all an automatic generation of this data e.g. due to the market standard today Location and navigation devices. Here the location position e.g. in geographical coordinates (e.g. WGS84) determined by satellite-based positioning. According to the invention, these coordinates can then be used for the request.

The request is sent to the information center. Since the information in the Request in character-encoded form is a preferred form of Transmission, as shown in the figure, the transmission in the sense of a Data telegram as a short message (SMS = short message service) in a GSM mobile network.

Upon receipt of the request, an order is opened in the information center that one receives a unique reference code (order number).

In the information center, the information received with the request evaluated. This primarily includes the evaluation of the location position. But also other optional parameters such as Direction of travel provide useful selection criteria As a result of this: evaluation is the information center (at least) one known spatial area for which traffic information is desired. This spatial area is the basis for the subsequent research in the database.

A simple solution for defining the spatial area is one Radius of e.g. 20 or 50 km to use the transmitted location. In a Refinement of the invention, various geometric shapes can be specified. This can, for example, circles of different sizes or formers with a Preferred direction ("club", "funnel", "cake", etc.). The tax option is none can be used very advantageously on the central side to avoid redundant or irrelevant Suppress information further. This will be explained using a simple example : Is the location given in the request (for the sake of simplicity, the current one Location) on a freeway, it becomes a directional form with a long range and selected with preferred direction according to the current direction of travel. is If the user is in an urban area, for example, a Radius information selected.

Another very interesting refinement opens up when this selection too can be influenced by the user. The user can do this as an additional Send information with the request a control parameter, which e.g. shape and / or size and / or orientation of an area defined. It can too Information on influencing control parameters stored centrally be transmitted.

On the basis of the area defined on the basis of the respective request, the Traffic database researched. If there are no messages, can a relevant message is advantageously transmitted back to the user become. Upon receipt of this information ("no report") the entire process can then be canceled. The reference code can be a predefined value (Error code) can be set.

If traffic information is available for the researched area, the Information compiled as an "order" and in one in the information center Storage facility under the reference code (order number) for a specific Period held. The reference code is sent back to the user, and the Users can now use the information provided within this period retrieve the voice channel. The "order" will be sent to the center after it has been called up or after expiry of this period (max. 1 hour) is automatically deleted.

This method can advantageously be carried out automatically by an appropriate method programmed electronic data processing system in the information center, but in principle also process manually or semi-manually. The under the "order" Compiled information could, for example, be retrieved by the user be read out or spoken on tape.

However, this basic principle of the invention can be refined very advantageously, such as is further explained with reference to the figure. To the settlement for users and operators To make it as inexpensive as possible is preferably a fully automated process of the process. A speech generator can be used for this. There The way voice generators work can be very different here exemplarily according to the figure only dealt with a certain variant. Further variants having the same effect are of course possible within the meaning of this invention. A system that is complete is used as the speech generator spoken texts using individual, pre-produced language modules composed. These language modules are usually in a database in In the form of so-called sound files. A complete text can therefore be viewed as one Sequence of language modules to be understood as a chain of the corresponding Language block numbers (sound file numbers) can be represented.

In this special embodiment of the invention, the researched (coded) Traffic information is fed to the speech generator in order to get it out in a first Processing step to create a chain of these sound file numbers. The compiled information, i.e. the "order" now comprises a chain of Sound file numbers that are stored under the reference code ("order number"). The. "Order" is thus ready for "collection" and the reference code is sent to the User submitted. The conversion of relevant traffic information into spoken form takes place only after retrieval immediately before the overnight stay Voice channel.

In another development of the invention, the individual messages of the compiled traffic information by the information center each clearly marked. These labels can be transmitted to the user become. This allows the user to recognize, for example (if only in coded form), which and how many messages are available for him. The big benefit However, it becomes fully apparent when these markings are carried out within several successive inquiries, such as those that occur during longer journeys can be saved temporarily by the user and included in the next request the information center will be transmitted. This information can namely are used on the central side to stop the already known messages consider. This results in a further significant increase in relevance the transmitted traffic information.

When the information center replies, the user receives the reference code under who can access the compiled information. It is beneficial but not to the exclusion, for this also the SMS channel of a GSM mobile network to use. For the user, of course, there is a correspondingly expanded function Telephone device particularly useful, which evaluates the message received Reference code extracted and the information center automatically or at the push of a button dials. It is particularly advantageous here to use the reference code as an extension of the Encode the information center phone number. When the call arrives the information center thus extract the extended digits and the Identify completed "order". Of course, the reference code can also after establishing the voice connection e.g. according to the DTMF process (dual tone multiple frequency) are transmitted.

The reference code thus becomes the information center when the voice connection is established announced. According to the special expression shown in the figure, now the chain of sound file numbers stored under the reference code Speech generator supplied in a second. Processing step the referenced language modules for the complete text in spoken form assembles.

The comfort for the user can be further increased by using the built Voice channel at least simple. Tax opportunities will be opened. This could For example, the DTMF method used in the telephone network can be used to send by To enable control by the user at the push of a button. With that you can Realize interactive control options like a tape. NEXT PREVIOUS, NEXT or also a direct selection of a certain message. Whether and how this Refinement can be implemented depends on the specific functionality of the electronic data processing system in the information center and the Speech generator.

The invention is based on the three-stage information exchange described. With Compilation of the information would in itself be possible to direct one Establish a voice connection from the information center and thus the Saving the return of the reference code. The award of such Reference codes would not be necessary. Because in public telephone networks the cost however, would typically be carried by the caller Communication costs are incurred on the central side alone. For the commercial operation of a such service offer would have to be based on other payment methods of individual contractual relationships can be found. In contrast, draws the method of the invention is based on direct billing with the customer Based on his participation in the respective telephone network.

The details of the process described are not all mandatory, but in some cases only appropriate. For example, all speech production, i.e. the two related processing steps shown in the figure only after building the Voice connection can be carried out. While this is within the scope of the invention, would have disadvantages, however, since the processing is time-consuming. The example shown Process minimizes the effort during the existence of the expensive and time-critical voice connection.
