Der Deckel ist vorzugsweise solchermaßen dimensioniert, daß bei luftdichtem Verschluß des Schwamms das verbleibende freie Volumen innerhalb des Deckels solchermaßen bemessen ist, daß nur soviel Lösungsmittel und/oder gegebenenfalls Wasser aus dem Schwamm in das freie Volumen verdunsten kön- nen, daß das im Schwamm verbliebene Beschichtungsmittel nicht bis zur nächsten Applikation in den Kapillaren des Schwamms eintrocknet. Besonders bevorzugt beträgt das freie Volumen innerhalb des Deckels maximal 100% des Schwammvolumens. Von praktischem Nutzen ist insbesondere die Kombination aus Beschichtungsmittel, Kunststoffbehälter, enthaltend das Beschichtungsmittel, Schwamm als Applikationswerkzeug und Dek- kel.
