Definitions
- the present invention relates to helmets and relates more particularly to motorcycle helmets such as those commonly used by the traffic police.
- Known equipment of this type uses microphones individuals called osteophones who capture the vibrations of the skull when the user speaks.
- the osteophone placed inside the shell of the helmet in contact with the head of the user is connected to a transmitter.
- Osteophones have the disadvantage of being not very selective in so that they not only pick up the vibrations of the cranial body generated by the user's speech, but also external and internal noises helmet caused by the wind when the motorcyclist exceeds a speed determined.
- the program obtained using an osteophone is made unusable at high speed because the signal to be transmitted is made unintelligible in particular due to the loss of the lips of the word.
- the invention aims to remedy this drawback by creating a device microphone for motorcycle helmet that retains its performance signal transmission both at standstill and at high motorcycle speeds driving by the helmet user.
- a microphone device for headphones motorcycle associated with means for filtering and amplifying the signals of output of the microphone to be emitted, characterized in that it comprises at least one transducer, placed in the interior lining of the helmet near the region upper or in one of the lateral parts of the edge of the anterior opening said helmet and an automatic means gain control circuit amplification according to the reception conditions of the acoustic signals picked up by the transducer.
- Fig.1 there is shown in perspective a helmet 1 of a motorcyclist comprising a chin strap 2 articulated on the helmet 1 by axes 3.
- the helmet shell 1 has a rigid outer casing 4 lined with interior trim 5.
- the shell has an anterior opening 6 for the face of the user.
- a transducer 9 of a microphone device In the upper region 7 of the edge 8 of the opening 6 is disposed a transducer 9 of a microphone device according to the invention.
- this transducer is arranged in the middle of the upper region 7 of the edge 8 of the opening of the helmet.
- transducer (s) are electret type.
- the transducer 9 is connected to an electronic circuit 11 for filtering and amplification of the transducer signals.
- This circuit 11 is in turn connected to a transceiver 12 via a line 13.
- the transceiver 12 is advantageously arranged on the vehicle.
- the transducer 9 is arranged at proximity of the upper region 7 of the edge 8 of the interior of the covering 5 in helmet polystyrene. It is engaged in a recess 15 formed in the front edge of the covering 5 with interposition of a damping block in foam 16.
- the transducer is further protected by a windproof element 17 in plastic material.
- the assembly thus formed is covered with a fabric 18.
- the covering 5 is connected at its front end with the front edge of the shell 4 by means of a seal 19 which maintains the fabric 18 between the shell 4 and the covering 5.
- the transducer 9 of the microphone device according to the invention is connected to an electronic circuit 11 for filtering and amplification.
- This circuit delimited by a mixed input line includes a circuit 20 of filtering the output signal of the transducer connected to the output thereof and whose the output is connected to a variable gain pre-amplifier and filter circuit variable 21.
- the output of this circuit 21 is connected by a circuit 22 for adaptation to the transceiver 12.
- the output of the adapter circuit 22 is connected by the line 13 to the transceiver 12 as already indicated with reference to Fig. 1.
- the transducer 9 receives the speech signals emitted by the carrier of the helmet, part of these signals being returned by the chin strap 2 while that a significant part reaches the transducer directly.
- Transducer output signals are filtered by the filter circuit 20 and are applied on the one hand to the variable gain preamplifier 21 and on the other hand to the gain controller 23.
- the controller 23 determines whether the signals emitted by the transducer 9 and filtered by circuit 20 have sufficient quality to be transmitted to the pre-amplifier variable gain and variable filtering without changing the gain and bandwidth of the preamplifier 21. If this is the case, the output signals of the circuit 20 are transmitted by the variable gain amplifier with variable filtering to the matching circuit 22 without neither gain nor bandwidth 21 changes from the control circuit 23.
- the output signals of the adapter circuit 22 are applied to the input of the transceiver 12 and transmitted by the transmission part of this transceiver.
- the transducer 9 not only receives speech signals from the helmet wearer but also exterior and interior noise signals to the helmet.
- the gain controller 23 detects this situation and adapts the gain and the bandwidth of amplifier 21 with variable gain and variable filtering so that it can compensate for the quality of the signals transmitted to the transceiver 12.
- the microphone device which has just been described with reference to Fig. 1 to 3 applies as well to a helmet with chin guard as to a helmet without chin guard.
- Fig.4 there is shown a variant of microphone device according to the invention, according to which a helmet 21 of the hinged chin type 22 on the shell of the helmet 21 by means of pins 23 is provided in the part upper of its front opening 24 of a transducer 25 similar to that described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3.
- the transducer 25 is connected by a line 26 to a circuit or electronic card amplification and filtering 27 which in turn is connected by a line 28 to a transceiver 29 outside the helmet.
- the helmet of FIG. 4 also includes a visor 31 also hinged on the shell.
- the microphone device in Fig. 4 differs from that described above in that it further comprises a detector 30 of the position of the visor connected to the amplification and filtering circuit 27.
- the electronic circuit associated with the transducer 25 is shown in Fig. 5.
- circuit 32 for filtering and transmitting the output signal from the transducer 25.
- the output of circuit 32 is connected to a variable gain pre-amplifier with variable filtering 33, the output of which is in turn connected to an adapter circuit 34.
- the output of the latter is connected to the transceiver 29.
- the visor position detector 30 is connected by its output to a signal shaping circuit 35 connected to a control input of the variable gain preamplifier 33 via a function circuit hysteresis 36 whose role is to set for the triggering of the command of the pre-amplifier 33 a different threshold depending on whether the visor 31 is open or folded over the user's face.
- the position detector 30, the shaping circuit 35 and the circuit with hysteresis 36 provide the same function as that of the gain controller circuit 23 of the embodiment of FIG. 3.
- the opening of the visor 31 of the helmet is detected by the detector 30 which via the shaping circuit 35 and hysteresis function circuit 36 controls gain and bandwidth of the variable gain and variable filtering preamplifier 33 to adapt it to different environmental conditions due to the fact that the user's face helmet may be fully exposed or covered and therefore that the speech signals emitted by the user to the transducer 25 are accompanied by noises inside and outside the helmet especially when the user is traveling at high speed.
- the headset when the visor 31 is closed on the user's face, the headset is a closed enclosure and speech signals are received to the transducer under different conditions and are transmitted by the variable gain pre-amplifier with variable filtering to the transceiver 29.
- the position detector 30 which detects the closed position of the visor 31 lets the pre-amplifier 33 transmit the signals coming from the transducer 25 without causing any intervention on its gain or its bandwidth.
- the card electronics comprising the amplification and filtering circuit on the one hand and the gain control circuit on the other hand is mounted in the headphones for example in a housing for the covering thereof.
- this circuit electronics can also be placed outside the helmet.
- the microphone device for helmet according to the invention exhibits clearly performance improved compared to existing devices.
