Definitions

  • the invention relates to a carton which is used for packaging a plurality of articles, for example bottles, which vary in size from one another. More particularly, the invention relates to a carton of the top gripping type which attaches to the tops of articles thereby to secure the articles in an array. It is known to provide top gripping cartons for articles of the same size. Accordingly, the carton can be formed to a regular shape. For articles of different sizes and shapes, a problem with top gripping cartons is that the carton itself must be irregularly shaped. In addition, rigidity and strength must be maintained to support the articles.
  • One aspect of the invention provides an article carrier of the top gripping type for accommodating a plurality of differently sized articles, for example bottles, which carton comprises a first and second side panel and a base panel interconnecting the side panels to form a plurality of aligned tubular sections, each adapted to accommodate one article, wherein said first panel has a pair of apertures and the second panel has corresponding apertures in registry with respective ones of those apertures from the first panel and wherein at least one edge of each corresponding pair of apertures of the first and second panel is adapted operatively to engage and support a neck portion of an article extending through said base panel characterised in that a first tubular section is of a different size relative to a next adjacent tubular section.

A further fold line 70 extends between the end points of cut lines 72 to coact with fold line 32. Positioned between cut lines 72 and passing through aperture 62 is fold line 44.
  • the outer first panel 18 comprises apertures 64 positioned in opposing outer sections and aperture 66 positioned centrally.
  • Aperture 66 is shaped to include handle tab 24 which is foldably connected along fold line 104. Extending laterally through apertures 64 and along the free edge of handle tab 24 from one edge of the outer first panel 18 to the opposing edge are three fold lines 46. Located on either side of aperture 66 in diametrically opposed positions are cut lines 74 which extend from fold lines 46 to the outer edge of panel 18 being shaped accordingly. Positioned between cut lines 74 and passing through aperture 66 is fold line 48.
  • Tabs 26 are frangibly connected to first panel 12 between apertures 50 and 56 and apertures 52 and 58 respectively.
  • Tabs 28 are frangibly connected from apertures 64 and 66 to the free edge of outer first panel 18. When the carton is in set up condition tabs 26 are in registry with corresponding tabs 28 in a face to face relationship.
  • Figure 2 illustrates the carton in a substantially set up condition.

Claims (11)

  1. Porte-articles du type à saisie par le dessus destiné à loger une pluralité d'articles de dimensions différentes, par exemple des bouteilles, lequel carton comprend un premier et un second panneau latéral (12, 16) et un panneau de base (14) reliant l'un à l'autre les panneaux latéraux afin de former une pluralité de sections tubulaires alignées, chacune conçue pour loger un article, dans lequel ledit premier panneau comporte une paire d'ouvertures (50, 52) et le second panneau comporte des ouvertures correspondantes en alignement (60, 62) avec des ouvertures respectives parmi les ouvertures du premier panneau et dans lequel au moins un bord de chaque paire correspondante d'ouvertures du premier et du second panneau est conçue pour saisir et supporter de façon fonctionnelle une partie de goulot d'un article B s'étendant à travers ledit panneau de base, caractérisé en ce qu'une première section tubulaire présente une dimension différente relativement à une section tubulaire adjacente suivante.
  2. Porte-articles selon la revendication 1, dans lequel une partie de la base de ladite première section tubulaire est d'une dimension différente relativement à la partie adjacente de la base de ladite section tubulaire adjacente.
  3. Porte-articles selon la revendication 1 ou la revendication 2, dans lequel les panneaux latéraux de ladite première section tubulaire présentent une dimension différente relativement aux panneaux latéraux de ladite structure tubulaire adjacente.
  4. Porte-articles selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, dans lequel ladite première section tubulaire et ladite section tubulaire adjacente sont reliées l'une à l'autre par le panneau de base (14).
  5. Porte-articles selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel des parties des premier et second panneaux latéraux (12, 16) sont fixées l'une à l'autre en relation de vis-à-vis de façon que chacune des sections tubulaires alignées soit dimensionnée de façon à loger un article respectif parmi lesdits articles (B).
  6. Porte-articles selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel ledit panneau de base (14) comporte une pluralité d'ouvertures (56, 58) de dimensions différentes afin de recevoir des articles de dimensions différentes de façon correspondante.
  7. Porte-articles selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel les premier et/ou second panneaux latéraux (12, 16) se prolongent au-delà desdites sections tubulaires alignées et dans lequel un moyen de poignée est incorporé dans le prolongement du premier et/ou du second panneau latéral.
  8. Porte-articles selon la revendication 7, dans lequel ladite première section tubulaire et lesdites sections tubulaires adjacentes sont reliées les unes aux autres par ladite structure de poignée.
  9. Ebauche de porte-articles destinée à former un porte-articles du type à saisie par le dessus, laquelle ébauche comprend des premier et second panneaux latéraux (12, 16) comportant chacun une pluralité d'ouvertures (50, 52 ; 60, 62) ainsi qu'un panneau de base (14) comportant une pluralité d'ouvertures (56, 58) articulé auxdits premier et second panneaux latéraux et les reliant l'un à l'autre de sorte que les ouvertures du premier panneau latéral peuvent être amenées en alignement avec des ouvertures correspondantes du second panneau latéral lorsque l'ébauche est façonnée, caractérisée en ce que des parties complémentaires de chacun desdits panneaux latéraux (12, 16) peuvent être déplacées hors du plan de parties adjacentes de ceux-ci de sorte que l'ébauche (10) peut être façonnée en un emballage de transport convenant pour transporter des articles de dimensions différentes.
  10. Ebauche selon la revendication 7, comprenant en outre un panneau de renfort supplémentaire (18) articulé à l'un des premier ou second panneaux latéraux et lequel correspond sensiblement à ce premier ou second panneau latéral.
  11. Ebauche selon la revendication 7 ou la revendication 8 dans laquelle au moins certaines des ouvertures (56, 58) dudit panneau de base varient en dimension l'une par rapport à l'autre.
