A tool for binding articles, in particular wiring harnesses, by means of straps, which comprises a strap feed channel (12) for feeding a strap in its longitudinal direction, which channel on one side is delimited by a tool body (2) and on the other side by a stepping conveyor for feeding a magazine strip to the strap feed channel (12), which magazine strip contains the straps side by side, characterised in that the stepping conveyor and the tool body (2) are designed so that they can be easily separated from one another.
  2. A tool according to Claim 1, characterised in that the stepping conveyor can be swung away from the tool body (2).
  3. A tool according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the stepping conveyor comprises a housing (6) removably connected to the tool body (2), a drawing-in drum (7) with projections (14) on the periphery engaging between successive straps of the magazine strip and a detent mechanism (15) for securing the drawing-in drum (7) in its rest position.
  4. A tool according to Claim 3, characterised in that the drive for the stepping conveyor is disposed in the tool body (2) and pairs of cams, in particular teeth, are provided for transmitting the drive motion from the drive body (2) to the stepping conveyor.
  5. A tool according to Claim 4, characterised in that a rack (23) protrudes from the tool body (2) in the vicinity of a gearwheel (20) mounted on the stepping conveyor and connected for rotation with the drawing-in drum (7) only in the feed direction.
  6. A tool according to Claim 5, characterised in that the feed drum is connected to a detent mechanism for determining its rest positions.
