Abstract

The invention concerns a hinge between a bone (3) and crown (7) of sunshades having a diameter larger than 2.5 meters. For this purpose is used an attachment that is fastened to the bone. The notches (8) in this attachment cooperate with cams (9) of the crown (7) which form together a hinge. In the crown are notches which bear cams. The cams are on both sides flat. The pivoting parts (10) are on one side connected with the bone and on the other side foreseen with notches which cooperate with the cams of the crown. The cams on the crown and the notches in the pivoting parts form a detachable hinge. The pivoting parts have a hole (12) for the bone that reaches further than the center of the pivoting point. The arrangement is very suitable for metal or plastic die-cast.

Description

The invention concerns a hinge between a bone and a crown of a sunshade having a diameter larger than 2 meter. For this purpose is used an attachment that is fastened to the bone. The notches in this attachment cooperate with cams of the crown which form together a hinge.
With well-known sunshades a galvanised wire is taken through holes in the bones. The bones are with the wire put around the crown and then the ends of the wire are turned around each other. The wire is in this way a turn-around shaft. This construction is unsuitable for larger sunshades.
The construction of sunshades as described in DE-A-4415207 makes use of pins as axis which has as consequence that the crown enlarges in diameter which causes a disproportionate increase of the circumference of the folded sunshade.
The invention provides for a hinge which reduces the diameter of the crown without doing concessions to the strength of the construction. For this purpose an attachment is developed that contains the elements of the hinge and to fasten reliable to the bone.
The invention will be explained with the help of the drawing.

    • Fig. 1 shows schematic the sunshade with the foot (1), column (2), the bones (3) and the bone supports (4). At (5) is a fixed crown and (6) is a moving crown which carry pivoting members with bones (3) and bone supports (4).
    In Fig. 2 both crowns are indicated with (7). In crown (7) are notches (8). At the inside of notch (8) cams (9) are made which face each other. The cams are circular with two flats opposite to each other. In the notch (8) fits a pivoting part (10) which is provided at one end of bone (3). This pivoting part (10) is provided with of circular notches (11) which are provided with slits and placed at opposite sides of pivoting part, facing in opposite directions, on which sides the shafts, representing the cams (9) of notches (8), are flattened. Notches (11) have slits which are directed perpendicular to the axis of bone (3). Pivoting parts (10) have a bore (12) to accommodate bone (3). Bore (12) reaches further than the centre of notch (11). Bone (3) is fixed with pin (13). In crown (7) is an opening (14) for the passage of column (2). At (5) crown (7) is permanently fixed to column (2) while at (6) the crown (7) is movable along column (2) to permit the folding up of the sunshade.
    In Fig. 3 is indicated a version of a larger type where bones (3) consists of thin-walled metal tube which is connected with a snapping fastener (15) to pivoting part (10).
    Fig. 4 shows bone (3) with pivoting part (10) in the position to carry out the assemblage with crown (7). In Fig. 5 bone (3) is shown in folded position.
    It is found that by using a deep bore (12) in pivoting part (10) a very solid construction is realised because notch (11) cannot bend away.
    The construction is very favourable for using die casting, in plastic or metal. Especially at the assemblage of large sunshades the hinge is easy to put together and to handle.

    Claims (4)

    1. Hinge between a bone (3) and a crown (7) of a sunshade having a diameter of more than 2 meter and where pivots are used characterised in that the pivot is composed of a pivoting part (10) provided with a bore (12) which reaches further than the centre of the pivoting point in which the bone (3) with the help of a pin (13) is fixed, that the pivoting part (10) is provided with two notches (11) placed at opposite sides of the pivoting part (10) and that the crown (7) is also provided with notches (8) in which two cams (9) are placed facing each other which have the form of a shaft that is flattened on two sides while notches (11) in pivoting part (10) are circular and provided with slits permitting the passage of the cams (9).
    2. Hinge as in claim 1 characterised in that pivoting part (10) is provided with a snapping fixture (15) for a thin-walled tube.
    3. Hinge as in claim 1 and 2 characterised in that the height of cams (9) and the depth of notches (11) are about one-fourth of the width of notch (8) in crown (7).
    4. Hinge as in claim 1, 2 and 3 characterised in that crown (7) of the sunshade and pivoting part (10) are die-cast while bone (3) is made of fibreglass bars or aluminium tube.
