Abstract

A gas detector for safety applications may be operated from the mains or from a rechargeable battery. It consists of three fully-independent sensors positioned alongside one another of which one (10/1) monitors the oxygen component in the air within the room, one (10/2) detects methane or propane and the third (10/3) detects carbon monoxide. An acoustic or optical alarm signal is given if the oxygen concentration falls below 20.9%, if the methane or propane content is higher than 0.5% to 1.0% or if the carbon monoxide content present exceeds 100 ppm. Following an alarm signal, the detector system transmits a radio signal to switch off the current supply at a mains switch (12) and/or to close a magnetic valve (16), blocking the further supply of gas in a feed-pipe (14).
