Abstract

A surveillance system comprises at least one remote device (2) and a surveillance device (4) including camera means (6). The camera means are adapted to produce a series of images of a static zone to be monitored. An image processor including comparison means arranged to compare each of said images with a previously produced reference image is also included in order to detect any difference therebetween. The image processor is further arranged to select any portion of any of said images which differs from the reference image. Communication means (12) are arranged to transmit image data characteristic of said portion to said at least one remote device, the surveillance system operating under the control of a control means (14).
