Abstract

The cigarette has a filter attached to the end of its section (T1) containing the tobacco, the filter being made in two sections (T2, T3), joined to one another and to the section with the tobacco by an outer sleeve (M1) with perforations (P). The filter section (T3) nearest the mouth has a lower resistance to draw, while the section (T2) between it and the tobacco has a higher resistance to draw. The two sections of the filter are joined together end to end with no gap between, and the portion of the filter after the perforations is surrounded by a thick porous sleeve (G1) impregnated with aromatic substances. The second portion (T3) of the filter is made from a material such as cellulose acetate and has a negligible tar retention capacity, while the first section (T2) is of paper and has a high tar retention capacity.

Description

The present invention relates to a double section ventilated filter cigarette filter, flavored by the sheathing of the filter, and designed to deliver smoke with a relatively low tar content, for example at most of the order of 1 mg.

It relates more particularly, but not exclusively, to cigarettes say hyperlights with a tar content of the order of 0.5 and 1 mg and a draft resistance (RT) greater than 0.64 kPa (65 mm CE), preferably close to 0.88 kPa (90 mm WC), and delivering primary smoke having an aromatic character found to be equivalent to earlier products with tar content much more important.

In general, we know that we have already proposed to manufacture cigarettes with a tar yield close to 1 mg by adding to the tobacco mixture of aromatic substances intended to enhance the taste of smoke released. It turns out that to obtain a return of this type, it is necessary to use a highly retentive tar filter and therefore done, strong resistance to draft and provide very strong ventilation. Gold, this need to ventilate very strongly does not reduce the content of tar without altering the aromatic force of the smoke, which becomes quickly unacceptable to the consumer for tar yields less than 1 mg. Furthermore, these solutions have the disadvantage of require the use of large quantities of flavor.

In order to eliminate this drawback, it has also been proposed to concentrate the aromatic substances in the filter. Thus, the FR patents 2,368,905 and EP 0 225 742 propose to use the sheathing of the filter (produced in microporous material) as a flavor carrier. However, the solutions described in these two documents do not lead to results sought, in particular with regard to the yield compromise in tar / resistance to draft / flavoring.

Cette solution présente, elle aussi, l'inconvénient de nécessiter des quantités relativement importantes de produits aromatisants.EP 0101 173 discloses cigarettes with a ventilated filter in which the two sections are spaced from one another and have a good transfer coefficient of the flavoring agent mixed with tobacco. This solution also has the disadvantage of requiring relatively large quantities important flavoring products.

The object of the invention is to achieve the objectives previously set out in avoiding the drawbacks of all these known solutions.

To this end, it offers a cigarette comprising:
  • a filter assembled to a tobacco section by an assembly sleeve comprising a ventilation zone, and having, on the mouth side, a section of filter with low draft resistance and, on the tobacco side, a section of high draft resistance, these two sections being joined end to end without gap, by means of an assembly sheath, and
  • a thick porous cladding loaded with aromatic substances which surrounds at least the part of the filter situated at the right or downstream of the ventilation zone,
  • the assembly cladding and the assembly cuff being permeable to air at least over a part of their surface which is not in contact with the mouth of the smoker.

Thanks to these provisions, and as will be described below, when the smoke enters the smoker's mouth, it is "channeled" by air flavored (constant flavoring).

It is important to note that the invention allows the production of a cigarette very low tar yield (<1 mg), for example between 0.5 and 1 mg and yet exhibiting good pull strength and taste substantially constant, regardless of the smoke flow, drawn in by the smoker.

However, the invention is not limited to the production of cigarettes lightweight with tar yields <1 mg. Indeed, the invention also applies to the production of light cigarettes, the tar yield can be up to 3 to 5 mg. In this case ventilation and the draft resistance of the section located on the tobacco side must be adapted.

  • La figure 1 est une coupe axiale schématique d'une cigarette, qui met en relief les effets et les résultats obtenus grâce aux dispositions selon l'invention ;
  • Embodiments of the invention will be described below, by way of nonlimiting examples, with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • Figure 1 is a schematic axial section of a cigarette, which highlights the effects and results obtained through the arrangements according to the invention;
  • Figures 2 to 4 are three schematic axial half-sections of three alternative embodiments of the cigarette according to the invention.
In the example shown in FIG. 1, the cigarette consists of a cylindrical tobacco section T 1 housed in a paper envelope E 1 , of a filter whose two sections T 2 , T 3 are axially contiguous, of a flavored thick cladding G 1 which surrounds the filter section T 3 located on the mouth side, an assembly cladding G 2 of the two filter sections T 2 , T 3 and a microperforated assembly sleeve M 1 , of the filter on the tobacco section T 1 .

The tobacco section T 1 comprises a tobacco + expanded tobacco (TE) mixture comprising approximately from 40% to 100% of TE. The section T 1 has a combustion speed ranging from 7 to 10 mm / min, so as to deliver from 5 to 7 standardized puffs, preferably from 5.5 to 6 puffs.

Elle est imprégnée de 1,5 à 3% de citrate de sodium et est fortement chargée (de 29 à 35% de Ca CO3).The paper envelope E 1 which surrounds the tobacco is highly permeable, the porosity possibly ranging from 40 to 120 people, preferably 40 to 80 people for a yield of 0.5 to 1 mg respectively. It is impregnated with 1.5 to 3% of sodium citrate and is highly charged (from 29 to 35% of Ca CO 3 ).

The filter section T 3 located on the mouth side is made of cellulose acetate or an equivalent product preferably of low resistance to draft, for example of the order of 0.15 -0.20 kPa (15 to 20 mm of EC ), and negligible tar retention. This resistance to draft could however be increased to 0.29 kPa (30 mm CE). The filter section T 2 located on the tobacco side which can be produced from paper has, for its part, a high resistance to draft, for example of the order of 1.08 to 1.76 kPa (110 to 180 mm of EC), (preferably 1.47 kPa (150 mm CE) for a 0.5 mg cigarette and 1.27 kPa (130 mm CE) for a 1 mg cigarette) and is highly retentive in tar: tar retention could go down 65% for a 1 mg cigarette but would preferably be greater than 80% for a 0.5 mg cigarette.
The cladding G 1 is made of porous material previously loaded with aromatic substances (for example by gravure printing), preferably on the internal face of the filter. This cladding G 1 can consist of a thick porous cladding, reference "Stiff 200" from the Company "De Mauduit" impregnated by rotogravure with an aromatic composition at a rate of 0.4 to 1.1 g / m 2 in the form of a solution or suspension. This porous cladding G 1 could consist of any other paper or porous vegetable or synthetic material of equivalent characteristic.

The assembly cladding G 2 of the two filter sections T 2 , T 3 can be of the same nature as the cladding G 1 . It can also be loaded with aromatic compounds.

The cuff M 1 is a conventional perforated or porous assembly cuff giving ventilation of the cigarette of the order of 60 to 80%, preferably of the order of 72% for a cigarette of 0.5 mg and 65 % for a 1 mg cigarette, the perforations P being located in an area located substantially at the junction between the two sections T 2 , T 3 (for example 13 mm from the end of the cigarette, mouth side) .

Le phénomène exploité grâce à la cigarette précédemment décrite est alors le suivant :The phenomenon exploited thanks to the cigarette previously described is then the next :

When the smoker smokes the cigarette, he exerts, during the smoke suction phase, a substantially constant depression over the entire inlet section of the filter section T 3 located on the mouth side.

This depression, which is transferred in a heterogeneous manner at the level of the inlet section of the filter section T 2 , generates both:
    • an annular ventilation current V A whose intensity decreases towards the central axis X, X ', and
    • a current of smoke V F coming from the combustion of tobacco and which passes through the filter section T 2 .

Compte tenu du fait qu'au niveau de la section d'entrée du tronçon de filtre T2 la dépression n'est pas constante mais décroít à partir du centre vers la périphérie en raison de la présence du courant d'air de ventilation VA, le courant de fumée VF se concentre dans la région centrale du tronçon de filtre T3.Taking into account that at the level of the inlet section of the filter section T 2 the vacuum is not constant but decreases from the center towards the periphery due to the presence of the ventilation air flow V A , the smoke current V F is concentrated in the central region of the filter section T 3 .

On the other hand, the ventilation current V A which propagates in an annular zone surrounding the smoke current V F has an intensity which decreases from the periphery, in the direction of the central axis X, X '.

In fact, this ventilation flow V A propagates in the annular aromatization zone of the porous cladding G 1 , the aromatic power of which decreases going towards the central axis X, X '.

The aromatization of the ventilation air flow V A is therefore carried out optimally and, taking into account the level of ventilation necessary for obtaining the low level of tar sought, the flow rate of this flow V A is relatively large.

Furthermore, the smoke current V F passing through the section T 2 , which is therefore at a relatively high temperature and which circulates in the central region of the section T 3 , only licks a small part of the porous cladding G 1 . This cladding G 1 (or the part of the cladding G ′ 1 according to the envisaged construction shown in FIG. 4) which is constantly ventilated, remains at a substantially constant temperature (ambient air temperature). It therefore does not undergo a rise in temperature which can cause premature evaporation of the aromatic substances which it contains, so that the aromatization of the gas mixture sucked in by the smoker remains constant over time and does not decrease rapidly, as it would the case if only the current of hot smoke came to lick all of the porous cladding flavored G 1 , G ′ 1 .

In addition, a peculiarity of this solution lies in the fact that when the gaseous mixture enters the mouth of the smoker, the smoke current V F is channeled and in a way enveloped by aromatized air from the ventilation current which comes in priority in contact with taste and olfactory taste buds. The taste of this cigarette is therefore substantially independent of the amount of smoked tobacco, (the taste of the cigarette and its intensity being essentially provided by the flavoring of the filter).

Le tronçon de filtre T3 est, quant à lui, recouvert d'un gainage poreux aromatisé G1.In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the filter has a length of 25 mm. In this case, the filter section T 2 with a high RT (made of very retentive filter material such as, for example, paper or a filter material sold under the brand CREST by the company Filtrona International Ltd) has a length of 16 mm, essential to obtain sufficient draft resistance (RT). The perforations P are then placed far enough back from the mouth side end of the cigarette (about 13 mm) and extend axially in an annular ventilation zone V 6 mm wide. The ventilation zone V extends partially above the filter section T 2 which is equipped with a porous cladding G 3 . The filter section T 3 is covered with a porous, flavored cladding G 1 .

In the case where a 30 mm filter is chosen (FIG. 3), the perforations can be placed on the section T 3 at low RT and the cladding G 3 of the section T 2 at high RT can be waterproof.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above. Thus, it is possible to use two flavored cladding G 1 , G 2 which can be impregnated with two respective sets of different aromatic compounds whose different partial adsorption on paper and acetate would modify the perception by the smoker. Furthermore, it is possible to incorporate adsorbents in the paper filter part such as, for example, activated carbon, either in the paper matrix, or during the manufacture of the filtering section by welding, or even bonding.

Similarly, in accordance with the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the filter with a length of 30 mm could have, on the tobacco side, a section T 2 with strong RT of length with a length of 23 mm and, on the mouth side a section T 3 of cellulose acetate, 7 mm long. The perforations made on the cuff M 1 which extend over a length of approximately 6 mm are arranged opposite the section T 2 , in an area of approximately 6 mm situated on the side of the section T 3 (at 13 mm from l 'mouth side end). In this example, the sheathing G ' 1 of the section T 2 , which is relatively thick and porous, is flavored. This cladding G ′ 1 extends under the ventilation zone so as to be licked by the current of ventilation air coming from the ventilation orifices, over a length sufficient to flavor the smoke.

Il permet d'éviter que la bouche du fumeur ne vienne directement au contact du gainage G'1.The sheath G 1 of the section T 1 , thinner and more rigid, is not necessarily flavored. It makes it possible to prevent the smoker's mouth from coming directly into contact with the sheathing G ' 1 .

Of course, the length of the filter could be different, for example 20 mm, the ratio of the lengths of the two sections T 2 , T 3 being kept substantially constant.
