Description

The invention relates to a ball joint for motor vehicles according to the preamble of claim 1.

Ball joints of this particular type are closed according to the prior art, for example in accordance with DE 34 09 989 C1, FIG. 5, or US Pat. No. 5,066,159, by rolling in a flanged edge on the open side of the pot-shaped housing after the joint ball has previously been closed with the Bearing shell was inserted into the housing through the open side of the housing. It is also known to push a locking ring with a smaller compared to the equator of the joint ball, but larger compared to the pin on the joint ball over the pin and fasten by rolling a flange on the open side of the housing, so that the bearing shell against this lock ring radially in one is supported within a projection of the equator. The sealing sleeve is attached at one end either in a groove formed on the outside of the housing edge or on the inside of the housing edge and possibly secured by an additional retaining ring. From the already mentioned US Pat. No. 5,066,159 it is also known to embed such a retaining ring in the manufacture of the sealing sleeve at the housing-side end of the sealing sleeve in its elastic material, which results in a certain axial elasticity between the flanged edge of the housing and the bearing shell, which often occurs is undesirable. In this relatively expensive known arrangement, the sealing sleeve is easily damaged in its hose area if the pin is deflected with the joint ball into extreme deflection positions.

The object of the invention is to find an inexpensive solution for the connection of a locking ring with the sealing sleeve in a ball joint of the type mentioned, which facilitates the assembly of the ball joint and does not lead to damage to the sealing sleeve even in extreme deflection angles.

To achieve this object, the invention provides training with features according to the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

With this design, the direct contact between the locking ring and the housing is maintained, so that a fixed housing lock is formed both radially and axially. An axial elasticity can be achieved and precisely defined by a tight contact of the inner surface of the locking ring against a support surface on the bearing shell become. The housing and the locking ring consist of metal in a manner known per se. The locking ring is connected to the end of the rubber sealing collar or the like only by vulcanization on the annular inner circumferential surface and an adjoining region of the outer surface which extends radially within the projection of the equator of the joint ball. This connection is inexpensive to manufacture and facilitates joint assembly and installation of the joint in a motor vehicle chassis.

In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown. Show it:
Figure 1
a half-sided section through a ball joint in a plane through the pin axis and
Figure 2
a section corresponding to Figure 1 through the locking ring and the sealing sleeve.

Die Lagerschale 4 besteht aus Kunststoff, vorzugsweise einem Polyoxymethylen (POM).The housing 1 of the ball joint is cup-shaped and has only one open side of the housing. Through this open housing side, the joint ball 3 formed on one end of a pin 2 with a bearing shell 4 is inserted. The housing 1 and the pin 2 with the joint ball 3 are preferably made of metal. The bearing shell 4 is made of plastic, preferably a polyoxymethylene (POM).

After inserting the joint ball 3 and the bearing shell 4 into the housing 1, a locking ring 5 is inserted in the open side thereof and closed by rolling in a flanged edge 6. The inner diameter of the locking ring 5 is smaller than the diameter of the Articulated ball 3, so that the latter can no longer be pulled out of the housing 1. In the exemplary embodiment, the radially extending inner surface 7 abuts against a rectified supporting surface of the bearing shell 4 in order to achieve a limited axial elasticity. A sealing collar 8 is connected to the inner circumferential surface 9 of the locking ring 5 and an adjacent area of the outer surface 10 of the locking ring 5 by vulcanization. The connection of the locking ring 5 with the sealing collar 8 on the outer surface 10 of the locking ring 5 lies within the flange 6 after the closure of the joint housing 1, so that the direct contact of the locking ring 5 with the flange 6 is maintained. In the area of the inner lateral surface 9 of the locking ring 5, the material of the sealing sleeve 8 forms a stop cushion for the pin 2 in the maximum deflection positions of the pin 2 relative to the housing 1, so that the hose area of the sealing sleeve 8 is not damaged even in frequent deflection positions in extreme positions. The outer end of the sealing sleeve 8 can have the configuration shown in the two drawing figures or can be adapted to other specific circumstances.
