Definitions
- the invention relates to protective equipment respirator comprising a respiratory mask, a harness allowing rapid installation, and sometimes glasses smoke protection integrated or not in the mask.
- the mask is fitted with a demand regulator, with dilution in general ; the masks can be provided to be put on overpressure (which requires that the harness can exert enough traction on the mask to apply it so noticeably waterproof on the face, despite the overpressure) or not.
- the present invention aims to provide equipment for respiratory protection, in particular against hypoxia, of the type above defined, likely to be implemented on a helmet and allowing extended wear without sacrifice for security.
- the invention provides a characterized equipment in that the harness also has a strap additional flexible, little or not extensible, provided with a manual direct clamping. We can consider as little stretch a fastener whose length does not vary from more than a few percent depending on its tension.
- the additional tightening strap can be made by a simple strap or strap in two connected parts by a clip already in place, which can be tightened by simple manual pull on a protruding strand.
- the additional strap is advantageously connected to the strap or to the extendable straps by inflation, so as to follow their movement.
- the additional strap can be placed between the two inflatable straps and connected to them by cords distributed around the head.
- a chin rest can be planned, adjustable or not.
- An upper strap passing over of the helmet, avoiding the downward displacement of the mask, for example in case of ejection, can be provided and equipped or not with means for adjusting the tightening.
- the mask can be simply oro-nasal, generally with a shape such as glasses or a visor can lean on it to protect the eyes.
- the mask can as well be complemented by one piece glasses with the face cover.
- the mask shown has an oro-nasal face cover attached to a regulator at the request 13 and to a rigid connection block 12.
- the block of connection is provided with a connection fitting with a pipe flexible 14 intended to be connected to a gas source pressurized breathing (pressurized oxygen in general).
- the harness shown by way of example comprises two straps 16 each consisting of an inner tube in elastic material contained in an inextensible sheath limiting the elongation of the tube.
- the length at rest of internal tubes is such that they tend to apply the face cover on the face with the force necessary to ensure the required seal, even when the mask is subject to respiratory overpressure.
- the regulator will be with or without dilution by aspirated air in the cabin, with or without the possibility of overpressure.
- the regulator is connected to the pipe supply 14 by the connection block 12.
- This block carries means for manually controlling the inflation of the straps 16, constituted for example by a tap intended to be actuated by manual pinching of two ears 18 carried by the connection block 12 and one of which is tiltable.
- the tap is constructed so as to put in communication an internal volume of the connection block 12 and the 16 straps with the atmosphere when free. It allows then the straps to retract and apply the mask against the face.
- the tap When the tap is turned on, it admits unlike pressurized gas from the supply line 14 in the volume and causes a sufficient lengthening of the straps to allow quick place. So that the straps, when they retract, ensure good contact with the back of the head, they are advantageously connected by passers-by 20 who limit their spacing.
- the harness also includes at least one additional strap flexible, but not extensible or not very extensible 24, intended to be tightened on the helmet to apply more firmly the mask on the face.

Description
The invention relates to protective equipment respirator comprising a respiratory mask, a harness allowing rapid installation, and sometimes glasses smoke protection integrated or not in the mask.
We already know (EP-A-0 288 391) equipment quick-fitting protection, intended in particular for cabin crew technical aircraft transporters passengers with a breathing mask fitted with a regulator intended to be connected to a source of respiratory gas under pressure (usually oxygen under pressure) and a harness having at least one extensible strap whose ends are connected to the mask and which has an element inflatable with pressurized gas to lengthen the strap up to a size sufficient to allow the user to engage the harness on the head and drainable to allow the strap to tighten, apply the mask against the face and hold it in place. The mask is fitted with a demand regulator, with dilution in general ; the masks can be provided to be put on overpressure (which requires that the harness can exert enough traction on the mask to apply it so noticeably waterproof on the face, despite the overpressure) or not.
Existing equipment of the above type is difficult to use by bound crew members wearing a helmet and occupying a pressurized cabin intended to allow them to work, even at altitude maximum planned for the plane, without respiratory mask then that rapid fitting of the mask is required in the event of depressurization. This case is particularly that of crews military aircraft other than combat aircraft (transport aircraft, reconnaissance, patrol, servitude, in-flight refueling) who often have to fly above a ceiling which subjects them to the risks of depressurization and / or may be overrun with toxic fumes or gases.
A simple oversizing of the inflatable harness of a equipment of the type currently known, sufficient for allow it to be easily worn over a helmet, is not not satisfying. Indeed, the tension that should exert the harness to obtain the required seal against the face under the most unfavorable conditions of depressurization would lead to extremely uncomfortable wearing of the mask outside of this situation. In addition, the tension exercised by an inflatable harness, unless it is so high that wearing a mask is not very tolerable for periods is insufficient to guarantee the maintenance in place the mask in exceptional conditions, such than an evacuation of the airplane in flight.
We also know masks connected to the helmet by an adjustable strap (EP-A-0 471 264): they do not allow quick installation.
The present invention aims to provide equipment for respiratory protection, in particular against hypoxia, of the type above defined, likely to be implemented on a helmet and allowing extended wear without sacrifice for security.
To this end, the invention provides a characterized equipment in that the harness also has a strap additional flexible, little or not extensible, provided with a manual direct clamping. We can consider as little stretch a fastener whose length does not vary from more than a few percent depending on its tension.
The additional tightening strap can be made by a simple strap or strap in two connected parts by a clip already in place, which can be tightened by simple manual pull on a protruding strand. To avoid that the presence of the additional strap does not hinder the passage of the harness on the helmet and does not interfere with quick place, the additional strap is advantageously connected to the strap or to the extendable straps by inflation, so as to follow their movement.
In particular, when the harness has two straps inflatable forming a V from each attachment point on the mask, as described for example in the document EP-A-0 288 391, the additional strap can be placed between the two inflatable straps and connected to them by cords distributed around the head.
Additional elements may be provided for strengthen the maintenance of the mask in exceptional situations. In particular, a chin rest can be planned, adjustable or not. An upper strap passing over of the helmet, avoiding the downward displacement of the mask, for example in case of ejection, can be provided and equipped or not with means for adjusting the tightening.
Finally, it is possible to plan the equipment in a way that the crew member who is provided with it may, before a mission, reduce its length in the event that all or part of the mission is accomplished without wearing a helmet.
The mask can be simply oro-nasal, generally with a shape such as glasses or a visor can lean on it to protect the eyes. The mask can as well be complemented by one piece glasses with the face cover.
- la figure 1 est une vue en perspective montrant l'aspect extérieur d'un équipement de protection conforme à un premier mode de réalisation de l'invention ;
- la figure 2 montre une constitution possible d'une attache à serrage rapide pouvant être prévue sur la sangle additionnelle unique de l'équipement de la figure 1 ;
- les figures 3, 4 et 5, similaires à la figure 1, montrent des variantes de réalisation ;
- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the external appearance of protective equipment according to a first embodiment of the invention;
- Figure 2 shows a possible constitution of a quick-release fastener which can be provided on the single additional strap of the equipment of Figure 1;
- Figures 3, 4 and 5, similar to Figure 1, show alternative embodiments;
- Figures 6 and 7 show possible constitutions of an additional element to temporarily reduce the length of the harness, for a mission not requiring the wearing of helmet.
The emergency breathing equipment shown on the
figure 1, in the position where it is on the head of a
user during use, can be viewed as
comprising a
Depending on the intended use of the equipment, the regulator will be with or without dilution by aspirated air in the cabin, with or without the possibility of overpressure.
The regulator is connected to the
The tap is constructed so as to put in communication
an internal volume of the
The arrangement described so far is known. We will be able to for example find a description in document EP-A-0 288 391. However, the length of the sheaths is such that these sleeves allow the passage of the harness over the helmets of all sizes.
serrer la sangle additionnelle 24.The harness also includes at least one additional strap
flexible, but not extensible or not very extensible 24,
intended to be tightened on the helmet to apply more
firmly the mask on the face. The
So that this strap occupies a suitable location
when tightening, it advantageously crosses the
In the case illustrated in Figure 1, the harness is
supplemented by a
Outside periods when the harness must be blocked
on the helmet due to a risk of tearing off or
detachment, the operation is the same as that of a
known type quick-set equipment, if not
that the
The variant embodiment shown in FIG. 3 (where the
bodies corresponding to those of FIG. 1 are designated
by the same reference number) has
Des. 304 384.The embodiment of Figure 4 includes, instead
glasses, an
16.Finally, the embodiment shown in FIG. 5 is

Some missions allow crew members to only wear a helmet temporarily, while incidents may result in the need to quickly put respiratory equipment. In this case, it is possible to provide the harness with an easily removable fastener temporarily shortening the length of at least one straps.
Figure 6 shows a possible constitution of such

Fastener 44 can have many different shapes from that described as a simple example.
Another possible constitution of the fastener is
