  • the present invention relates to a load handling vehicle of the kind comprising a lifting mast and a carriage movable up and down the mast, the carriage having mounted thereon a load engaging means.
  • Load handling vehicles of this kind are utilised in a wide variety of load handling applications with the load engaging means which is mounted on the carriage having a variety of different configurations depending upon the particular application of the load handling vehicle.
  • Load handling vehicles may be designed to handle large freight containers and similar standardised loads which can be stored in a stack. For example, empty freight containers are frequently stored in stacks of up to eight containers high. When such containers are stacked, it is necessary that the containers are accurately aligned one above the other. When a load handling vehicle is being operated to place a container onto the top of the stack, it is essential that the container is accurately aligned both translationally and rotationally with the container underneath. In some known load handling vehicles this requires the operator of the vehicle accurately to align the entire vehicle relative to the stack and this can be a time consuming operation requiring the vehicle to be moved a number of times so as to locate the container squarely above the container underneath. This is a particular problem with very large containers, for example containers about 12 meters (40 feet) long, since a small rotational movement of the vehicle will cause a large rotational movement of the container.
  • the present invention aims to provide a load handling vehicle which is capable of at least partly alleviating the problems in the prior art discussed hereinabove by providing a slewing system for a load handling vehicle which can be utilised in a wide variety of load handling applications and load handling vehicle constructions.

  • Such a camming-type action of the rollers 20 in the respective mast upright 14 enables the slewing position of the carriage 12 reliably and rapidly to be controlled by the operator.

  • the present invention could be used on general purpose load handling vehicles which employ a set of forks, in container handling wherein a top lift attachment is mounted on forks or a side lift attachment is mounted on the carriage.
  • the present invention could also be used in conjunction with a carriage in the form a gantry for container handling.

It will be apparent to the man skilled in the art that the provision of a slewing facility for a load handling vehicle provides advantages over known load handling vehicles in a wide variety of applications.

Claims (7)

  1. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug mit einem Hubmast (10), einem Schlitten (12), der am Mast (10) auf- und abbewegbar gelagert ist, wobei der Schlitten (12) eine Lastgreifeinrichtung (16) enthält oder zum Halten einer solchen geeignet ist, und mit einer Roll- oder Gleitanordnung (36), die eine Anzahl von Rollen oder Gleitern (20,20') aufweist, die an jeder aufrechten Seite (28,30) des Schlittens (12) angebracht und im Mast (10) zur Ausführung einer Bewegung des Schlittens längs desselben aufgenommen sind; dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß eine Schwenkeinrichtung zum Schwenken des Schlittens (12) bezüglich des Mastes (10) um eine im wesentlichen vertikale Achse vorgesehen ist, wobei die Schwenkeinrichtung eine Einrichtung (38,40,46) zum Verschieben der Rollen oder Gleiter (20) vorwärts und rückwärts bezüglich des Schlittens (12) an wenigstens einer aufrechten Seite (28) des Schlittens (12) aufweist.
  2. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug nach Anspruch 1, bei welchem die Schwenkeinrichtung verschiebbare Rollen (20) aufweist und jede Rolle exzentrisch auf einem Zapfen (52) gelagert ist, der im Schlitten (12) drehbar gelagert ist, wobei eine Drehung des Zapfens (52) eine exzentrische Verschiebung der daran gelagerten Rolle (20) bewirkt.
  3. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug nach Anspruch 2, bei welchem die Schwenkeinrichtung eine Hydraulikzylinderanordnung (46) aufweist, die zum Drehen jedes Zapfens (52) vorgesehen ist.
  4. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug nach Anspruch 3, bei welchem die Hydraulikzylinderanordnung (46) mit jedem Zapfen (52) jeweils durch einen am entsprechenden Zapfen (52) befestigten Befestigungsarm (38) und eine Verbindungsstange (40) verbunden ist, die am Kolben (44) der Hydraulikzylinderanordnung (46) schwenkbar und am Betätigungsarm (38) angelenkt ist.
  5. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug nach Anspruch 3 oder 4, bei welchem zwei Rollen (20) an der wenigstens einen aufrechten Seite (28) des Schlittens (12) gelagert sind und die Hydraulikzylinderanordnung (46) ein doppeltwirkender Hydraulikzylinder ist, der geeignet ist, beide Zapfen (52), welche die zwei Rollen (20) tragen, gleichzeitig zu drehen.
  6. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug nach einem der vorangehenden Ansprüche, bei welchem der Schlitten (12) ein Bockgerüst oder Tor (gantry) bildet.
  7. Lasthandhabungsfahrzeug nach Anspruch 6, bei welchem am Schlitten (12) eine Seitenliftbefestigung zur Frachtbehälterhandhabung angebracht ist.
