Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an imitation gemstone made of acrylic glass (PMMA) (so-called Plexi strass) with an at least partially flat underside and a gem-shaped face.
Imitation gemstones are required in very large numbers in the clothing industry. The original production of these imitations made of glass was largely replaced by imitations made of plastic, especially acrylic glass. Not that only for economic reasons, since the plastic imitations are much cheaper to produce, but also because of the high weight of the imitations made of glass. This applies both to imitations that are pressed into frames, for example used as buttons, and to those that are applied directly to the fabric by sewing on. In the latter method in particular, however, the weight of the imitations of glass has a very disruptive effect, since this "warps" the fabric or causes undesirable wrinkles.
Ironing on these imitations has proven very successful for applying the imitation gemstones directly to the fabric. For this purpose, the imitation gemstones, which must be made of glass due to the heat generated during ironing, are provided with a heat-seal layer or a hot-melt adhesive layer which, under the influence of the heat generated, bonds inseparably to the fabric. As I said, this economical iron-on is only possible with imitation gemstones made of glass, since the heat generated would at least destroy the brilliance of such imitations made of plastic. However, the weight of the imitations of glass and the resulting disadvantages must be accepted.
The object of the invention is to provide such a gem imitation made of plastic, which is also applied in an economical manner, can be connected to the fabric by means of a hot melt adhesive. This is achieved in a manner according to the invention in that the flat underside of the imitation consisting of acrylic glass is coated with a thermally short-term load of up to at least 100 ° C. and securely adhering to the acrylic glass in a thickness of at least 10 × 10 μm in that the lacquer ends on the underside with a metal layer of at least 10 μm thick and that a layer of a heat-seal adhesive is applied to this metal layer.
What is new about this iron-on imitation gemstone made of acrylic glass is the application of a thermally highly resilient lacquer to the flat underside of the imitation gemstone in a thickness that is such that it at least temporarily reduces or almost prevents the heat transfer when ironing from the melting heat seal adhesive onto the acrylic glass. This can of course be supported by the selection of the heat seal adhesive, which should preferably become molten at a temperature of about 100 ° C. In fact, it has been found that the imitations of gemstones made of acrylic glass, if they are coated in the manner according to the invention, can be ironed on with reliable adhesion without loss of brilliance. "Ironing" is of course also to be understood as any other heat, such as heat radiation or the use of high-frequency heat.
According to the invention, it is proposed to use a polyurethane reaction resin as the lacquer and a copolyamide as the heat seal adhesive. The heat seal adhesive can of course also be present as a thermoplastic hot-melt film and on the metal coating be applied. To apply this thermoplastic hot-melt film, it is recommended according to the invention that it is placed on the metal layer and attached to the metal layer by brief heating at a temperature of approximately 80% of the melting temperature of this hot-melt film. The final connection of the hot glue with the gem imitation and the fabric is then carried out by the action of heat when "ironing" these imitations.
If the attachment of this thermoplastic hot-melt film with direct heat transfer, for example by means of a fabric press, it is advisable to insert a non-adhesive film, for example made of silicone paper or a polyethylene separating film, between this thermoplastic hot-melt film and the press. Covering the heat-sealing adhesive is also expedient if the imitation gemstones according to the invention are sold as individual application pieces in order to prevent inadmissible attachment under the influence of heat, for example due to sun radiation, etc.
An imitation gemstone according to the invention is shown schematically in the drawing. The flat underside of an imitation gemstone (1) made of acrylic glass is coated with a thermally highly resilient lacquer (2). This lacquer (2) is followed by a thin metal layer (3) which is applied, for example, by vapor deposition. This metal layer (3) is followed by a layer of heat-sealing adhesive (4), which can ultimately be covered by a non-adhesive film (5).
To iron this imitation gemstone, it is placed on the fabric after removal of the non-adhesive film (5) and the heat-sealing adhesive (4) is melted by the action of heat, so that this adhesive bonds securely to both the imitation gemstone (1) and the fabric.
