The embodiment shown in Fig. 3 allows the following switching options for each cylinder:
  • a) Only the actuating levers for an exhaust valve and at least one intake valve are effective
  • b) Only the coupling levers for an exhaust valve and at least one intake valve are effective
  • c) Only one actuating lever or only one coupling lever of the rocker arm pairs for the inlet valves and either the actuating lever or the coupling lever for an outlet valve are effective.

Claims (2)

  1. A valve drive system intended for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine with two inlet valves and at least one exhaust valve per cylinder, with a single camshaft with cams for the actuation of these valves via rocker lever arrangements rotatably mounted on rocker lever spindles and which are composed of pairs of rocker levers per cylinder, of which each comprises an actuating lever and a coupling lever as well as a coupling device for coupling actuating and coupling levers, characterised in that a pair (14, 15, 25) of rocker levers, consisting of actuating and coupling levers (7,8,9; 7a,10,11) as well as coupling device (16, 17, 22) are associated with each inlet and exhaust valve (3,4:2) and in that the coupling devices (16, 17, 22) of all rocker lever pairs (14, 15, 25) consisting of actuating lever (7, 8, 9) and coupling lever (7a, 10, 11) and of each cylinder can be controlled independently of one another and in that each actuating lever (7) provided for the actuation of at least one exhaust valve (2) and the associated coupling lever (7a) are disposed between the pairs of rocker levers (14, 15) consisting of actuating and coupling levers (8, 9, 10, 11) for the inlet valves (3, 4) of each cylinder.
  2. A valve drive system according to Claim 1, characterised in that each actuating lever (8, 9) associated with the inlet valves (3, 4) is disposed directly beside the pair of rocker levers (25) for the exhaust valve (2).
