Das erfindungsgemäße Ventilantriebssystem erlaubt bei der Anordnung nur einer Nockenwelle im Zylinderkopf eine separate Ansteuerung des jeweils aus Betätigungs- und Koppelhebel bestehenden einlaß- und auslaßseitigen Kipphebelpaares eines jeden Zylinders und damit eine beliebige Festlegung der Schaltzeitpunkte für das Einlaß- und Auslaßventil hinsichtlich der Öffnungs- und Schließzeiten. Es ergeben sich durch die besondere Ausführung für jeden Zylinder somit Schaltmöglichkeiten, durch die nur die Betätigungshebel oder nur die Koppelhebel wirksam werden, oder es ist eine Schaltung möglich, bei der nur der Betätigungshebel für das eine Einlaßventil und der Koppelhebel für das andere Einlaßventil desselben Zylinders oder umgekehrt in Funktion tritt.
