Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a new modular construction system for office furniture such as, in particular, that described in European Patent EP-A-504533, this arrangement targeting the means for guiding and connecting all of the supply conductors various electrical devices distributed over a work surface, such as lighting fixtures, telephones, computer equipment and the like.
The problem that arises with these systems stems from the multiplicity of these devices, brought together on the same relatively small work plan, and whose power supplies are by nature independent, which creates a risk of entanglement of the various types of conductors traveling between separate points on said work plan.
A solution to this problem has been proposed by USP 4535703, according to which the different conductors are guided horizontally in plastic profiles mounted between the periphery of the work surface and the walls against which said work surface is mounted.
Another solution is proposed in FR-A-2655251 of the Applicant, according to which said conductors are guided from the ground to the point closest to each device by a set of metal profiles together constituting the frame supporting said tray on the ground.
Another solution is also proposed in DE-U-9002294 as well as in DE-A 3603465, these two documents disclosing modular construction systems of office furniture comprising the elements of the system as defined in the preamble of
The solution proposed according to the present invention consists in taking advantage of one of the elements of a modular construction system as recalled above to create, at the level of the work surface, a removable and interchangeable common connector, of convenient access without affecting the aesthetics of said element.
The element referred to in the present invention is the column originally intended to form, on a lower fraction of its height, a support for the angle of a tray fulfilling the function of the worktop, and above this level of support, access to the material supply conductors arranged on this plate. However, in this double known role, the connection sockets of said equipment to said conductors are simply provided on the front face of the column, that is to say fixed and not concealed.
According to the invention, in such a column, the front face, preferably associated with the horizontal cover at the top of the vertical column, is purely decorative, and mounted sliding on the rear walls of the column along vertical slides formed on the edges front of these walls, while all of the aforementioned conductors are joined to a single connection block constituting a drawer mounted to slide vertically in the rear corner of the column, so that it can be removed and possibly replaced depending on the number and of the nature of said conductors.

As can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, the invention relates to a column designated by the general reference C and having the following geometry:
On the lower portion of its height, it consists of a vertical prism with a square base (1), then on the upper portion, it consists of a prism with a triangular base (2), leaving a triangular section (3) serving as support at an angle of a plate (4), in a known manner.
According to the invention, the prism (2) consists of a pair of fixed rear walls (5, 5 ') and a sliding part (Figure 2a) comprising a front face (6) and a cover (7). The part (6 - 7) slides vertically in slides (8, 8 ') formed in vertical edges before the faces (5, 5'), so as to completely seal the volume of said triangular prism. The front (6) and / or the cover (7) may include decorative patterns.
According to the invention, the interior of the triangular prism (2) is arranged so as to serve as a housing for a block of electrical connections which is mounted therein sliding vertically so that it can be removed for modifications or repairs.
This arrangement can take different forms, two of which are described below as examples:
First, there is shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5 a variant in which the connection block consists of two
In this case, the connection block can easily be removed by lifting it by
Unlike the variant of Figures 3 - 5, where the length of the connection block is limited to the height of the prisms 2, the block of Figures 6 - 7 can take the entire height of the column C, as illustrated in 21 to FIG. 8, to receive a whole series of
Of course, the invention is not limited to these two embodiments, but on the contrary covers all the variants coming within the scope of the claims below.
