Abstract
Description
The invention relates to radiant burners and more specifically to radiant burners of the type comprising at least one radiant plate surrounded by a peripheral strip and a screen mounted with free movement in a support structure on the use side of this radiant plate.
Thanks to the screen, it is possible to increase the radiant efficiency of the burner, by placing the flame on the ceramic constituting the radiant plate, and also by recovering the heat contained in the fumes which escape at high temperature, the screen acting as a heat exchanger.
Radiant burners of this type are already known, in which the radiant screen is in the form of a plate associated with a burner body to delimit a premix chamber, while a ceramic frame having a structure internal device for receiving the peripheral edge of the screen plate constitutes a combustion chamber isolated from any peripheral metal part; the ceramic frame receiving the screen plate bears against an upper flange of the peripheral strip, and the peripheral strip is secured to the body by an elastic system, for example with springs, in order to compensate for expansion. Despite these precautions, the screen plate, which is metallic, does not fully exhibit the reliability that one might hope for; in fact, for heating powers greater than 6 or 7 kw, the metal, commonly worn, during the operation of the burner, at a temperature of approximately 1,100 ° C., degrades slowly, and its life is under these conditions estimated to be around 2 years; as the burner is not easily removable, it is then the whole of it which must be changed. Also, we tried to replace known metal screen plates with ceramic screen plates, but these plates suffer from the same reliability problem, since they break even when they are made of high-end ceramic. Thus, we are limited on the power-life couple, and the choice of a compromise is necessary.
The invention aims to remedy these drawbacks, and for this purpose relates to a radiant burner of the type comprising at least one radiant plate wrapped by a peripheral strip and a screen mounted with free movement in a support structure on the use side of this plate radiant, the screen comprising ceramic bars forming at least one ply of bars in which said bars are arranged substantially parallel, burner characterized in that the bars are isostatic bars made of ceramic that is good conductor of heat.
Thanks to these characteristics, powers of the order of 10 kw are reached with a lifespan of the bars increased compared to that of screens according to the prior art, and this while retaining a simple assembly and inexpensive means. More specifically, the bars, being isostatic, can expand without being subjected to mechanical stresses; moreover, as they are not refractory, but on the contrary good conductors of heat, they allow the transfer of heat from the rear of the burner towards the front, which makes it possible to maximize the radiation emitted by the burner and thus lower the temperature of the bars for an identical incoming power and better recover the heat from the hot gases leaving the burner.
- FIG. 1 is a cross section along a median plane of a burner according to the invention, and
- FIG. 2 is a cross section along the plane referenced II-II in FIG. 1.
The radiant burner shown in the figures comprises in a known manner a radiant plate 1 mounted, on the side of one of its faces, against a burner body 2, and on the side of the opposite face, against a support structure such as a
The burner body 2 is cup-shaped, the
The
For this purpose, the
While it would have seemed natural to use refractory bars, the ceramic used is a non-oxide ceramic, for example a silicon carbide or a silicon nitride, which are materials which are good conductors of heat, which are sufficiently emissive. , and whose resistance to high temperatures and thermal shock is excellent; the good emissivity of the bars makes it possible to maximize the radiation emitted by the burner, and thus to lower the equilibrium temperature of these bars for an identical incoming power and to better recover the heat from the hot gases leaving the burner.
Under these conditions of good heat exchange between the burner and the outside, for a power of 10 kw, the temperature reaches 1,300 ° C., and the life of the screen is significantly greater than 2 years.
For reasons of ease of assembly, the
As we have seen, the bars have in particular a function of heat exchanger, and we seek thanks to them to convert the maximum energy of the gas into radiated energy. However, it appeared that bars whose section has a circular contour (solid or tubular) are particularly interesting and that the radiation and the yield are higher the smaller the diameter of the bars; the limit is naturally due to the resulting fragility; it seems that the acceptable range is that of diameters ranging from 2 to 10 mm, with a better compromise for 5 to 6 mm (in particular 5.6 mm); it also seems that the most advantageous range for the centers between the bars is such that the distance between the bars is between 10 to 40% of their centers, with an optimum around 22% (which corresponds to a center distance of 7.2 mm for a diameter of 5.6 mm). It is then that a maximum efficiency of the power radiated by the device is obtained.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above and shown, and other forms can be provided without departing from its scope. We could for example provide that instead of the bars forming a ply of bars in which these are arranged substantially parallel, surmounted by two other bars parallel to those of the ply, the bars are arranged in several plies in which all the bars are parallel to each other and arranged for example in staggered rows, or even in several plies in each of which the bars are parallel, but with a different direction from one ply to another.
