Abstract

The shelving base for furnishing shops and for other uses includes a box-like structure (1) made of metal sheet which has a U-shaped vertical cross-section with side panels (11) joined to each other at the bottom (at 13) to engage the feet (25) and connected to each other on top (at 11A) to complete the box-like structure and make up a seat (11B) for the shelves (5A).

Description

The invention relates to certain metal shelvings comprising base components which have a box-like structure and are shaped for fixing uprights which are inserted therein to support shelves, especially cantiliverly mounted shelves. Structures of this kind may be placed against a bearing wall or matched altogether to form structures in the interior design of shops or the like, to provide two fronts of items arrangement especially for show purposes. These shelvings have to meet strength and aesthetic requirements and economy of fabrication as well.
The invention relates in particular to a box-like base for shelvings of this type, meeting all the above mentioned requirements, and other requirements, which are known and necessary in relation to components of this type.
Substantially, the shelving base for shop furnishing and for other uses, made up of a structure of metal box-like sheet, is characterized in that it consists of a single piece having a U-shape vertical cross-section, with side panels connected on top to complete the box-like structure.
The supporting feet are directly engaged in the lower connection portion between the side panels.
The base can be provided with a rear extension for jointing the upright and, in this case, it may comprise a stiffener inside the lower connection, which is welded to the latter and extending also into said rear extension for stiffening the parts provided for the connection of the upright.
The drawing shows a possible embodiment of the invention and in particular:

According to what is illustrated in the attached drawing, numeral 1 generally indicates box-like bases for shelvings of the above mentioned type,able to engage uprights 3 of metal structural shape, which are provided with slots able to fix and support shelves 5 suitably spaced apart and extending mostly cantiliverly along the front of the shelving. Structures of this type are known per se and, in particular, their base 1 are formed by a box-like metallic sheet structure, presently made up of two shells matched to one another by welds along respective contact edges. These known bases are not very satisfying from the aesthetic point of view and have some drawbacks as far as their resistance, the fixing capability of the uprights and the placement of the supporting feet on the floor are concerned. These and other drawbacks are eliminated by the structure according to the invention.
According to what is illustrated in the attached drawing, a base 1 is substantially made up of a continuous element formed by a metal sheet, which is U-shaped in its lower part, i.e. which is formed by two opposite side panels 11 integral with a lower intermediate portion 13 to make up a U-shaped cross-section. This continuous box-like structure is closed on top by shapes 11A, 11B of the side panels 11 which are welded along the zones 11A, with the ends 11B being slightly spaced apart so as to receive terminal folded edges of the shelves 5A which are made to rest directly on said bases 1. As above stated, the bases 1 are shaped in their front and rear ends so as to be engaged to other components. In,particular, the outer ends will be closed by appendixes and side panels 11 which are folded in such a manner as to complete the closing and, if required, to allow the fixing of front coverings between adjacent bases. In their rear part the bases are shaped with appendixes like those indicated at 15, 17 and 19 to allow the fixing of the uprights; more particularly, the appendixes 15 and 17 cooperate with slots formed in the uprights, and the appendixes 19, which are spaced apart of a greater extent, engage the lower end of the inserted upright which rests within a slot 21 formed by appendixes 19.
According to an advantageous emobodiment made possible by the U-shaped box-like structure described above, the connection region 13 in correspondence of the rear end of the base, i.e. in correspondence of the appendixes 19, is reinforced by an additional component 23 which has the same shaping as the lower part of the box- like structure 11, 13, 11, of the appendixes 19 and of the slot 21 as well, so as to reinforce the base end and the appendix 19; this reinforcement prevents deformations and, in particular, widenings of the slots 21 which are stressed also in horizontal direction by the uprights. These stiffeners 23 do not alter the appearance of the base nor exhibit particular overall dimensions when housed within the said U-shaped box-like structure according to the invention.
Easily applicable along the connection regions 13 are the feet, and the connection and adjustment components for the same feet which are adjustable by means of screws. Numeral 25 indicates the components which receive the feet placed on the ground, said components providing for a screw-adjustment of the feet. The weight of the goods placed on the shelving is transmitted by the uprights 3, in particular to the rear feet; the latter are engaged in correspondence of the stiffeners 23 and, more particularly in correspondence of the thicknesses of the connection 13 and of the stiffener 23; in this area the resistance is higher than that offered by the thickness of the sheet forming the base alone. The structure is therefore able to provide an extremely rational arrangement also of the bases-supporting and shelving-supporting components.

Claims

1) A shelving base for shop furnishing and for other uses, made with sheet components and with metal structural shapes, which base - made by a structure of box-like metal sheet - is characterized in that it consists of a single piece having a U-shaped vertical cross-section with side panels connected on top to complete the box-like structure.

2) Shelving base according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the supporting feet are directly engaged in the lower connecting portion between the side panels.

3) Shelving base according to any preceding claim, with a rear extension for the connection to the upright, characterized in that inside the lower connecting portion there is a stiffener welded to said connecting portion and extending also in said extension for stiffening the parts which are provided for the connection of the upright.

4) Box-like shelving base for furnishing; all as described and represented.
