Claims (14)

  1. A method of returning articles (20), such as empty beverage cans, by means of a returns apparatus (1), each article being tested before being accepted, and upon acceptance of the article a counting facility (9) being actuated, characterised in that the counting facility actuates, in response to predetermined counter states and/or after completion of the introduction of articles, a printer (10) to deliver a certificate, for example, a voucher, and/or a delivery device to deliver an article for example, a sample of goods.
  2. A method according to claim 1, characterised in that upon acceptance of the article (20) a sorting device (12) is actuated in accordance with the make and/or material of the article.
  3. A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that after acceptance of the article (20) a deforming device (8) is actuated to reduce the volume of the article.
  4. A method according to claim 3, characterised in that the deforming operation is interrupted in that event of the deforming device (8) being overloaded.
  5. A method according to claim 3, characterised in that after interruption of the deforming operation the article (20) is sorted as a reject.
  6. A method according to claim 4 and/or 5, characterised in that the counter facility (9) is actuated only at the end of a satisfactory deforming operation.
  7. A method according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the returns apparatus provides visual and/or audible advertising.
  8. A method according to claim 7, characterised in that the advertisement is triggered by the introduction of articles.
  9.   12. An apparatus according to claim 11, characterised in that an overload sensor (39) for the deforming device (8) is provided in order to interrupt the deforming operation in the event of an overload and to actuate a junction (12′) which after cessation of the deforming operation sorts the article (20) as a reject.
  13. An apparatus according to claim 11 and/or 12, characterised in that a signal line from the deforming device (8) to the counter facility (9) is provided in order to deliver after a successful deformation a signal enabling the counter facility (9) to be actuated.
  14. An apparatus according to any of claims 9 to 13, characterised in that an advertising device (3), such as a video projector or a transparency projector or a light writer, is provided.
