Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a bed or sitting furniture frame of the type set forth in more detail in the preamble of patent claim 1.
  • the object of the present invention is to suggest a new furniture frame, which in a far-reaching way can be auto ⁇ ta ticly mass-manufactured, has high stability and also can be ass- embeld by laymen in their homes. Sale of the frames should be possible in a space-saving manner in parcels having small dimen ⁇ sions and due to an assembly through the buyer additional price advantages should be obtainable. Thus, a bulky construction is to be avoided.
  • the invention should also make an appealing ornamental frame design possible. Finaly, it should be possible to offer, despite subsequent assembly work, all parts finished, and the finishing should be of the type, which even after exten ⁇ ded use does not need any subsequent finishing. Also, hygienic requirements should be met.
  • Fig. 1 is a perspective exploded view of a bed furniture frame according to the invention
  • Fig. 2 is an end view of a preferred embodiment of a longitudina frame side bar according to Fig. 1 showing also the attachment of a ticking ;
  • Fig. 3 is an end view of a preferred embodiment of a bottom slat of the frame according to Fig. 1;
  • Fig. 4 shows a lining for the aforementioned slats ;
  • Fig. 5 is an end view of a modified embodiment of a longitudinal frame side bar with attached ticking ;
  • Fig. 6 is an underneath perspective view of a frame incorporating frame side bars and even end sections according to the profile shown in Fig. 5;
  • Fig. 7 is an underneath perspective view of the frame shown in
  • a furniture frame according to the present invention e.g. for a bed, a sofa " or an easy chair, is generally indicated by 1.
  • This frame is mainly made of metal and/ or plastic materi and comprises end sections 2, which via longitudinal side bars can be connected to each other, bottom slats 4 being inserted into the interior of the longitudinal side bars and connection pieces 5 being used to connect said end sections and said long ⁇ itudinal side bars.
  • Each en section preferably comprises a U-shaped cross piece 6, the cross-section of which at least roughly being shaped as a standing rectangle and the shape and dimensions of which, at least as regards the connecting pieces 7, aligned with the long itudinal side bars, being adjusted to said side bars.
  • the frame is, preferably, a hollow metallic profile, said connecting pieces 7 being inderconnected by means of a cross beam 8, e.g. by means of welding, which replaces an outer bottom slat and has bore holes 9, through which e.g. threaded bolts (not shown) can be inserted in order to fasten legs (not shown). Threaded bolts ot the like, which are fastened by means of welding can, of course, be used instead of bore holes.
  • This type of end section is particulary stable and has a high torsional modulus, but is also compact and not bulky. Threaded nuts or the like can be used instead of bolts.
  • the longitudinal side bars are each made of a hollow profile having a cross section shaped as a standing rectangle. They are preferably made of a metal sheet, which through bending has obtained the shape shown in Fig. 2.
  • a through reces 11 in the longitudinal direction on the interior side 10 has a rectangular cross-section.
  • the interior side 10 extends to the bottom side of recess 11, but the bottom side 12 of the profile is bent around said end shaped in this way.
  • a stable con ⁇ struction is obtained in this way and precisely in the support area for said bottom slats 4 tripple material thickness and consequently a particulary high carrying capacity are obtained
  • the bottom side 12 of longitudinal side bars 3 and end section has a through groove 13, which is open downwardly and widens in the profile, particulary dovetail-shaped.
  • the groove is placed in a central position between exterior side 14 of the profile and the interior side of recess 11 and is provided to receive a fastening means 22, preferably a plastic or rubber molding at the edge for of a ticking 23 to surround the frame top and sides.
  • a fastening means e.g. a hollow rubber molding hav a round cross-section, widens inside groove 13 and thus in a simple and detachable way retains a ticking, which consequen ⁇ tly does not need its own fastening means and easily can be detached for washing purposes.
  • Recess 11 as well as groove 13 contribute to an improved stabi ⁇ lity and particulary a high carrying capacity and torsional mod ulus of the longitudinal side bars according to the invention.
  • the ruggedness of the tripple area below the recesses can, of course, be further improved by means of e.g. spot welding.
  • a lining 24 e.g. of plastic material, which is U-shaped and follows the contour of the bottom list, and consequently a metal/metal- contact is avoided and perhaps also a desirable clamping effect is attained.
  • Such lining edges can also be provided with presha ed pockets 25 for the slats in order to facilitating, speeding up and improving in general the assembly work by laymen.
  • connection pieces 5 whic have an exterior profile shape, which is compl . ementary as to th interior profile of the connection ends of connection pieces 2 and longitudinal side bars 3 but which, for making Fig. 1 less complicated, have not been shown in great detail.
  • the dovetail-shaped grooves can run continuosly all the way round the bed.
  • the connection pieces preferably are made of plastic material and are compact and have in the middle a peripheral collar 15, against which said connecting ends are t abut in order a metal/metal-contact in this area also.
  • a locking between the said connecting ends is preferably achie ved by providing said ends with rearwardly and inwardly projecting laterally punched tongues 16 and 17 see Fig.s 7 & 8, which mesh with recesses 18,19 in said connection pieces, when the intended insertion position is reached, a following uninte ded removal being impossible.
  • This technique is simple and doe not require any tools and is done automaticly, when said insertion position is reached.
  • slats preferably are made of metal and/o plastic material profiles having a C-shaped cross-section, the open side,of course, being turned downwardly and the upper side 20 preferably being provided with a longitudinal depression 21, which partly carries the transverse loads better and partly helps keep a atress in a particular prefered position on the bed.
  • the free longitudinal edges of such slats can simply be bent inwardly and backwardly, which also contributes to a strengthhening.
  • Fig.2 shows grooves 13 in the bottom or recess region only.
  • the said grooves may extend through both in the upper and on the lower side of bars and end sections.
  • bars and end sections may be turned such that the recesses 11 and thus the slat-bottoms are uppermost, which is de sirable for a certain type of furniture.
  • the groove shown in Fig. 2 is not neccesary. But with grooves on both sides, such a profile is universally applicable.
  • the slats may in all embodiments, carry mattresses of any weight.
  • Fig. 6 can be either an underneath per ⁇ spective view exactly as shown or a perspective view from above/ in which latter case the slats should be turned to show the depressions on this side and not the C-opening.
