Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to electromagnetic induction heating. It applies in particular, although not exclusively, to the heating of the edges of flat metallurgical products having to undergo hot deformation. Such products are in particular steel products which must be heated or reheated before being flattened and / or expanded by passing between the rollers of a rolling mill.
- the presence of the capacitive assembly allows the coil to run through a current of much greater intensity than that of the current supplied by the electric generator. The latter then supplies only active power actually consumed by the device, "reactive power", for example 10 times greater, being supplied by the capacitive assembly.
- the product to be heated often runs at high speed and may have irregularities which make it necessary to plan a long passage interval.
- the temperature of this product is often such that a thermally insulating layer must be provided on either side of this passage interval to protect the coil and the adjoining electrotechnical structure.
- the air gap of the magnetic circuit must be large, which results in the presence of a large magnetic flux in the region of the coil. This leakage flow is partially useless for heating the product to be heated, but it induces currents in the conductors of the coil and therefore significant parasitic heating affecting these conductors.
- Patent document US-A-4 176 237 further describes an induction furnace for liquid metal.
- This oven is provided with an inductive heating coil comprising conductors connected in parallel between two electrical terminals of this coil, each said conductor comprising a cooling tube, the transport of current in this conductor being distributed between strands applied in thermal contact. against the walls of this tube, the length of this conductor comprising zones of strong deformation in which it undergoes particularly intense deformations carrying out transpositions of conductors and strands to limit the formation of stray current loops.
- the present invention aims in particular to allow a simple manufacturing of a heating coil which is compact and which limits the energy losses of an induction heating device.
- the transport of current in each conductor of the coil is distributed between strands which remain applied in thermal contact against a cooling tube of this conductor even in transposition or twisting zones where this conductor has undergone particularly intense deformations , this conductor having at least a twist of a half-turn between the electrical terminals of the coil.

- Figure 2 shows an electrical diagram of this device.
- FIG. 3 represents an overall view in elevation of a coil of FIG. 1.
- FIG. 4 represents a bottom view of the coil of FIG. 3.
- FIG. 5 represents a partially cut away perspective view of a lower part of this same coil.
- FIG. 6 represents a developed view of a bar of this same coil in this same lower part.
- Figure 7 shows a cross-sectional view of a conductor of this bar.
- a strand heating device is used in a steel installation upstream of a rolling mill.
- a flat product consisting of a thick steel sheet 1 circulates on transport rollers 2 in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the sheet and represented by the end of an arrow V.
- This magnetic circuit is articulated around an axis 9 to allow, using a device 10, to temporarily increase the opening of the air gap 3 when the sheet 1 has a protruding defect which could come into contact with and damage one end of the magnetic circuit.
- the coils 7 and 8 are connected in series with each other and in parallel with a capacitive assembly 11 between the terminals of a generator 12.
- the latter supplies an alternating voltage at a working frequency of 250 Hz.
- the resonant circuit formed by the coils 7 and 8 and the capacitive assembly 11 is tuned to this frequency.
- each tube T has a external surface of which at least part constitutes a thermal contact surface 28 extending over the length of this tube. It consists of a material having sufficient electrical resistivity, taking into account its transverse dimensions, to limit the currents induced in this material at the working frequency.
- a plurality of the current transport strands B1 ... B12 extend over the length of the tube T. They are made of an electrically conductive material having an electrical resistivity lower than that of the material of this tube. Each of them has transverse dimensions smaller than those of this tube and chosen, taking into account this lower resistivity, so as to limit the currents induced in this strand at the working frequency. In addition, it rotates at least half a turn around this tube between the two electrical terminals so as to transpose the strands within the conductor.
- Each of the strands such as B1 has a substantially flattened rectangular section and has two main faces 44, 46 which extend along a width of this strand which is parallel to the width of the tube T.
- This strand also has two lateral faces 48, 50 which extend along a thickness of this strand which is parallel to the thickness of this tube and which is smaller than the width of this strand.
- Some only of the strands constitute two so-called first layers of strands B1 to B3 and B7 to B9 which are applied respectively to the two main faces 28, 36 of the tube T.
- Others of these strands constitute two second layers of strands B4 to B6 and B10 to B12 superimposed on these first two layers so as to make an indirect thermal contact between these two main faces of the tube and these two second layers through these first two layers, respectively.
- Each of these first and second layers has the same number of strands between two and five inclusive. This number is preferably equal to three, in accordance with Figures 3 to 6.
- Each group of conductors constitutes a bar 52 in which several conductors C1 to C5 succeed one another in an axial direction parallel to said coil axis A.
- the coil 7 extends along said axial direction between two circular end zones each surrounding the coil axis A.
- One of these zones comprises said electrical terminals 25, 26 and constitutes a high zone ZA.
- the other constitutes a low zone ZB.
- Two directions of movement are possible in said axial direction: a descending direction going from this high zone towards this low zone and a rising direction opposite to this descending direction.
- the bar 52 starts from a first electrical terminal 20 by rotating in a direct direction 54 around the coil axis A and going down. It thus forms an external winding 56 having a first diameter.
- a first conductor C1 is placed in this winding at the bottom of this bar.
- a second conductor C2 is placed above this first conductor, and so on until a last conductor C5 placed at the top of this bar above a penultimate conductor C4.
- This bar rotates and descends within this winding until the first conductor C1 reaches said lower zone ZB of the coil.
- This first conductor then has a transposition deformation which is carried out in the transposition zone ZT1 of this conductor and which causes it to join an internal winding 58 formed by the same bar 52.
- This winding has a second diameter smaller than said first diameter and the bar 52 rises within it while rotating around the coil axis A in said direct direction.
- the second conductor C2 situated in the external winding reaches in turn the lower zone of the coil. It then has the same transposition deformation in a ZT2 transposition zone which is specific to it and which is angularly offset in said direct direction from the transposition zone of the first conductor. This deformation causes this second conductor to join the internal winding 58 while passing below the first conductor C1, and so on until the last conductor C5 reaches the low zone ZB of the coil.
- This last conductor then has the same transposition deformation in a transposition zone ZT5 offset angularly in the same direction from a transposition zone ZT4 of the penultimate conductor C4. This transposition deformation causes the C5 conductor to join the internal winding while passing below this penultimate conductor.
- first conductor C1 is placed in the internal winding 58 at the top of the bar 52, the second conductor C2 below this first conductor and so on until the last conductor C5 which is placed at the bottom of this closed off. The latter turns and rises within this winding up to the second electrical terminal 22 in the upper zone ZA of the coil.
- the number of conductors of a bar is five and the thicknesses of the tube and of the strands of each of these conductors are oriented in the axial direction.
- the twist zones ZV1 to ZV5 are placed next to the transposition zones ZT1 to ZT5 so as to form regular angular successions around the axis A.

Abstract
A cooling tube (T) is incorporated in each conductor (C1) of the coil. The current transport in this conductor is distributed between strands (B1 ... B12) which remain applied in thermal contact against this tube even in transposition or twist zones where this conductor has undergone particularly intense deformations. This conductor has at least one twist of half a turn between the electrical terminals of the coil. The invention is particularly applicable in the steel industry, for heating the banks of flat products along the way.
Description
The present invention relates generally to electromagnetic induction heating. It applies in particular, although not exclusively, to the heating of the edges of flat metallurgical products having to undergo hot deformation. Such products are in particular steel products which must be heated or reheated before being flattened and / or expanded by passing between the rollers of a rolling mill.
- a magnetic circuit having an air gap,
- means of transport for scrolling the product to be heated in this air gap,
- a coil surrounding this magnetic circuit in the vicinity of this air gap,
- a capacitive assembly which is typically constituted by a capacitor bank and which is connected across the terminals of said coil to constitute a circuit resonant at a working frequency which is generally between 100 and 1000 Hz and which is typically close to 250 Hz,
- and an electric generator injecting a current into this circuit resonating at the working frequency.
The presence of the capacitive assembly allows the coil to run through a current of much greater intensity than that of the current supplied by the electric generator. The latter then supplies only active power actually consumed by the device, "reactive power", for example 10 times greater, being supplied by the capacitive assembly.
The product to be heated often runs at high speed and may have irregularities which make it necessary to plan a long passage interval. In addition, the temperature of this product is often such that a thermally insulating layer must be provided on either side of this passage interval to protect the coil and the adjoining electrotechnical structure. As a result, the air gap of the magnetic circuit must be large, which results in the presence of a large magnetic flux in the region of the coil. This leakage flow is partially useless for heating the product to be heated, but it induces currents in the conductors of the coil and therefore significant parasitic heating affecting these conductors.
- to make the heating coil as compact as possible,
- to give the electrical conductors of this coil a sufficiently divided shape, taking into account their electrical resistivity and the working frequency, that is to say to give them transverse dimensions sufficiently small to limit the formation of induced currents in the metallic mass of each of these conductors, several conductors then being grouped in parallel and isolated from each other except at their two ends where they are connected to two terminals common to all the conductors of a group,
- transpose the conductors of the same group to limit the induced currents likely to flow in a loop passing through two conductors and the two terminals of the group,
- and to cool the coil vigorously using a cooling circuit in order to be able to apply a large useful heating power using a coil of limited dimensions.
- a ferromagnetic core,
- two electrical terminals for receiving alternating current,
- a group of conductors consisting of various electrical conductors connected in parallel between these two electrical terminals, this group having the form of a winding around said core ferromagnetic, a transposition of these conductors being carried out within this group so as to ensure an approximate equality of the various alternating magnetic fluxes surrounded respectively by the various conductors of this group, this transposition being carried out using transposition deformations of these conductors in transposition zones of these conductors,
- a cooling duct wound around said core in thermal contact with said conductors,
- and hydraulic terminals for circulating a cooling fluid in said cooling duct.
Patent document US-A-4 176 237 further describes an induction furnace for liquid metal. This oven is provided with an inductive heating coil comprising conductors connected in parallel between two electrical terminals of this coil, each said conductor comprising a cooling tube, the transport of current in this conductor being distributed between strands applied in thermal contact. against the walls of this tube, the length of this conductor comprising zones of strong deformation in which it undergoes particularly intense deformations carrying out transpositions of conductors and strands to limit the formation of stray current loops.
Such known coils leave something to be desired with regard to their compactness, their cost price and the energy efficiency of the heating device of which they are a part.
The present invention aims in particular to allow a simple manufacturing of a heating coil which is compact and which limits the energy losses of an induction heating device.
According to this invention the transport of current in each conductor of the coil is distributed between strands which remain applied in thermal contact against a cooling tube of this conductor even in transposition or twisting zones where this conductor has undergone particularly intense deformations , this conductor having at least a twist of a half-turn between the electrical terminals of the coil.
- a

core 5. A transposition of these conductors is carried out within this group so as to ensure an approximate equality of the various alternating magnetic fluxes surrounded respectively by the various so-called drivers of this group. Its realization requires applying to each of these conductors "transposition" deformations in a "transposition" zone of this conductor. To ensure its cooling, the coil also includes: - a cooling tube T incorporated in each of these conductors,

hydraulic terminals 24, 26 for circulating a cooling fluid in this cooling duct.
According to the present invention each tube T has a external surface of which at least part constitutes a
A plurality of the current transport strands B1 ...
- Electrical isolation means 30 are provided to isolate the strands at least from each other between the electrical terminals, as well as connection means 30, 32 sufficiently mechanically resistant to maintain these strands in continuous thermal contact with this thermal contact surface. even in said transposition zones such as ZT1. Each conductor such as C1 for this comprises a
substance 30 of known type which will be called hereinafter "internal resin" and which is chosen to be electrically insulating, mechanically resistant, and to adhere strongly to the tube T and the strands B1 to B12 . In addition, an electrically insulating and mechanicallyresistant ribbon 32 surrounds the assembly constituted by the tube T, the strands B1 to B12 and theinternal resin 30. This ribbon is itself impregnated with a resin of a known type which may be different. that of theinternal resin 30. - The tube T has a substantially flattened rectangular section and has two
28, 36 extending along a width of this tube and two side faces 38, 40 extending along a thickness of this tube smaller than this width. Each of these two main faces constitutes a so-called thermal contact surface. At least two strands such as B1 and B2 of the first layer B1 ... B3 are applied in thermal contact on each of the two main faces of the tube T. They are offset relative to each other according to the width of this tube. At least one twist of each conductor such as C1 is produced in a twist zone such as ZV1 which is specific to this conductor and which extends over a limited fraction of the length of the latter. This twist is a twist of a half-turn of this conductor around an axis 42 of the tube T to progressively pass each of the twomain faces 28, 36 in place of the other. This achieves the transposition of the strands B1 ... B12 within this conductor. In the example described, the tube T is made of bronze and the strands B1 to B12 are made of pure copper.main faces
Each of the strands such as B1 has a substantially flattened rectangular section and has two
Ce nombre est de préférence égal à trois, conformément aux figures 3 à 6.Each of these first and second layers has the same number of strands between two and five inclusive. This number is preferably equal to three, in accordance with Figures 3 to 6.
Each group of conductors constitutes a
The second conductor C2 situated in the external winding reaches in turn the lower zone of the coil. This last conductor then has the same transposition deformation in a transposition zone ZT5 offset angularly in the same direction from a transposition zone ZT4 of the penultimate conductor C4. This transposition deformation causes the C5 conductor to join the internal winding while passing below this penultimate conductor. It follows that the first conductor C1 is placed in the internal winding 58 at the top of the
Les zones de vrillages ZV1 à ZV5 sont placées à côté des zones de transposition ZT1 à ZT5 de manière à former des successions angulaires régulières autour de l'axe A.In the coil described by way of example, the number of conductors of a bar is five and the thicknesses of the tube and of the strands of each of these conductors are oriented in the axial direction. The twist zones ZV1 to ZV5 are placed next to the transposition zones ZT1 to ZT5 so as to form regular angular successions around the axis A.
