Abstract

There is disclosed an improved pliers arrangement for opening phleboclysis bottles, comprising a circular gripping element formed by two arms provided with inner toothed portions adapted to penetrate, through the detent metal sleeve of the bottle, between the bottle glass material and the rubber bottle plug, as the arms are fully tightened about the bottle heck.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to an improved pliers arrangement for opening phleboclysis bottles.
  • As is known, in hospitals and operating rooms there are frequently used phleboclysis solutions which generally comprise physiologic solutions held in suitable phleboclysis bottles.
  • In such an application frequently a need arises of quickly and simply opening a phleboclysis bottle.
  • On the other hand, such an opening operation is rather difficult because of the closure system of the phleboclysis bottles which comprises a rubber plug which is tightly locked on the glass bottle neck by a metal sleeve.
  • Because of the lacking of a suitable opening tool, there are frequently used not suitable tools such as scissors and the like with a possible consequent damaging to the operator.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The aim of the present invention is to overcome the above mentioned drawback by providing an improved pliers arrangement for simply and quickly opening phleboclysis bottles.
  • Within the scope of the above mentioned aim, a main object of the present invention is to provide such a improved pliers arrangement which can be simply operated and affords the possibility of easily removing from a phleboclysis bottle both the rubber plug and the metal tightness sleeve.
  • The above mentioned aim and objects, as well as yet other objects, which will become more apparent hereinafter, are achieved by an improved pliers arrangement for opening phleboclysis bottles, characterized in that it comprises a circular gripping element including two gripping arms provided with inner toothed portions adapted to penetrate through the metal sleeve of a phleboclysis bottle between the bottle glass material and rubber plug, as said pliers are tightened so as to fully close said pliers about said bottle neck.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred, though not exclusive, embodiment thereof, which is disclosed, by way of an exemplary but not limitative example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, where:
    • Figure 1 is a perspective side view illustrating the subject pliers in an open condition thereof;
    • Figure 2 shows the subject pliers being closed about the neck portion of a phleboclysis bottle;
    • Figure 3 is a detail view showing the configuration of the inner portions of the two arms of the subject pliers;
    • Figure 4 is a side view of the subject pliers;
    • Figures 5 and 6 are respectively two inner views of the two pliers arms;
      and
    • Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the configuration of the inner wedge toothed elements of the pliers arms.
    DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • With reference to the figures of the accompanying drawings, the improved pliers 1 according to the invention, comprise a circular gripping element including two pliers arms 2 provided for being tightened about the neck portion of a phleboclysis bottle 3 including a conventional rubber closing plug 4 locked in place by a metal sleeve 5.
  • The two pliers arms 2 are provided, on their inner surfaces, with tooth elements 6 which extend from the vertical portions of said pliers arms and are turned, in a perpendicular direction with respect to said vertical portions, to the centre of the circular gripping element.
  • These toothed elements 6, which preferably are four in number, are evenly spaced, two for each pliers arm, and have a wedge-like shape which is tapered to a thin sharpened end 6′ having a circle arch shape.
  • The handle of the implement comprises two pivoted legs 7 and 8 the main portions 7′ and 8′ of which are provided, on their outer surfaces, with a plurality of recesses 9, or the like elements, adapted to provide a firm gripping by the operator.
  • Moreover, the implement handle is so designed and shaped as to facilitate the gripping of a phleboclysis bottle neck and the legs thereof, at their portions 7′ and 8′, are held in a spaced condition by two blade springs 10 applied on the inner surfaces of these portions and mutually pivoted at the pivoting point of the legs of said handle.
  • It should be pointed out that all of the portions of the subject improved pliers are preferably made of a stainless steel material which provides the pliers component with a high strength.
  • In operation, in order to properly and quickly open a phleboclysis bottle, the pliers will be arranged, with the handle downward facing, about the neck portion of the bottle and the pliers legs will be tightened so as to cause the circular gripping portion of the pliers to fully close about the neck.
  • Thus, the wedge-shape element 6 will fully penetrate the metal sleeve 5 to be arranged between the rubber plug 4 and the glass top edge portion of the bottle neck.
  • Then, the gripping end portions of the handle will be upward pulled so as to remove from the bottle neck the rubber plug 4 and the restraining metal sleeve 5.
  • At the end of the above disclosed operation, the blade spring 5, deformed by the pressure exerted by the operator to clamp the pliers, will bring again the pliers to its opening condition.
  • From the above disclosure it should be apparent that the invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects.
  • While the invention has been disclosed and illustrated with reference to a preferred embodiment thereof, it should be apparent that the disclosed embodiment is susceptible to several modifications and variations all of which will come within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Claims (9)
