Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for correcting the mixture composition in the event of a change in the load condition of an internal combustion engine to which a mixture formation device is assigned.
- the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine deviates to a greater or lesser extent from the lambda value required for the optimal conversion.
- the change in the intake manifold pressure takes place when the engine changes load, in particular by changing the position of the control element controlling the mixture quantity, for example a throttle valve, a throttle cone, etc.
- the resulting fuel-air mixture which is formed in the mixture formation element arranged centrally on the intake manifold, deviates only slightly from the ideal composition even without regulation. Due to the variable intake manifold wetting, especially in the case of rapid load changes, a mixture deviating from the ideal mixture is supplied to the engine and the exhaust gas quality is thus deteriorated. The faster the intake manifold pressure changes when the engine is loaded, the less it is possible to regulate these deviations from the ideal lambda value to the lambda value required for optimal conversion through the control via the lambda probe.
- the object is achieved by a device for correcting the mixture composition in the event of a change in the load state of an internal combustion engine to which a mixture formation device is assigned, in that the mixture formation device has a metering unit for the fuel with an inflow-side fuel delivery line and an outflow-side fuel delivery line and is movable in the metering unit
- the metering unit is arranged, which releases position-dependent variable fuel passage cross-sections in the metering unit, the metering unit being connected via an opening which is sealed by means of a movable compensating element to an equalizing chamber which is connected to the outflow-side fuel delivery line via a branch line, and the metering element and the compensating element in a movement-locking manner are coupled to one another such that a movement of the metering device in the direction of an increased force Material cross section leads to a movement of the compensation element that reduces the compensation space and a movement of the metering element in the direction of a reduced fuel flow cross section leads to a movement of the compensation element that increases
- the regulating member assigned to the mixture formation device and controlling the mixture quantity thus moves in the sense of a reduction in the air throughput, then the pressure in the intake manifold drops.
- the metering element arranged in the metering unit moves simultaneously with the control element in the sense of a reduction in fuel.
- the compensating element moves with the metering element and sucks off fuel between the metering element and the regulating element via the branch line functioning as a bypass line. If the compensating element is dimensioned correctly, that is to say depending on the respective engine type, as much fuel is drawn off as is added to the mixture by evaporation from the intake manifold walls before entering the engine.
- the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine therefore changes only slightly as a result.
- the regulating member controlling the mixture quantity moves in the mixture formation device in the sense of increasing the air throughput, then the pressure in the intake manifold increases.
- the metering device moves simultaneously in the sense of an increase in fuel.
- the compensating element moves with the metering element and additionally delivers fuel via the branch line into the line between the metering element and the regulating element. This additionally introduced fuel is largely used for the accumulation of fuel on the intake manifold wall and thus for the reinforcement of the fuel film. This in turn changes the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine only slightly.
- the compensation element is dimensioned correctly, the deviation from the fuel-air mixture, which is ideally pilot-controlled by the mixture formation device, is reduced in the event of a sudden change in load, so that the control by the lambda probe is relieved. As a result, the conversion of pollutants during load changes is improved.
- the compensating element is designed as a compensating piston which penetrates the opening.
- a membrane, a bellows or the like can also be used instead of a piston.
- the metering element and the compensating element advantageously form a structural unit.
- the metering unit is expediently divided into two subspaces by an orifice having an opening, one of the subspaces being connected to the inflow-side fuel delivery line and the other of the subspaces being connected to the outflow-side fuel delivery line and the metering member more or less passing through the orifice as a function of position, and that of the inflow-side fuel delivery line assigned sub-room is connected to the compensation room.
- the metering element is expediently designed as a cone and connected to a control element designed as a rotationally symmetrical throttle body, which can be displaced in a rotationally symmetrical nozzle body and forms a convergent-divergent nozzle with the latter, which opens into the intake manifold of the internal combustion engine, the outflow-side fuel delivery line in or in close to the narrowest cross section opens into the nozzle.
- a control element designed as a rotationally symmetrical throttle body, which can be displaced in a rotationally symmetrical nozzle body and forms a convergent-divergent nozzle with the latter, which opens into the intake manifold of the internal combustion engine, the outflow-side fuel delivery line in or in close to the narrowest cross section opens into the nozzle.
- FIG. 1 shows a fuel tank 1, of which fuel with pilot-controlled constant pressure through a pump 2 through a filter 3 connected downstream thereof and a system pressure regulator 4
- Fuel delivery line 5 is conveyed to a metering unit 6. From there, the fuel reaches a first section 7a of a further fuel delivery line 7, which opens into a metering regulator 8.
- a second section 7b of the fuel delivery line 7 leads from the metering regulator 8 to a convergent-divergent nozzle 9 which is formed by a rotationally symmetrical nozzle body 10 and a rotationally symmetrical throttle body 11 which can be displaced therein.
- the second section 7b of the fuel delivery line 7 opens in the vicinity of the narrowest cross section 12 into the nozzle 9, which in turn opens into an intake manifold 13 of the internal combustion engine, not shown.
- the metering unit 6 is divided into two sub-spaces 16 and 17 by an aperture 14 having an aperture 14, the sub-space 16 being connected to the fuel tank 1 via the fuel delivery line 5 and the sub-area 17 via the fuel delivery line 7 to the nozzle 9. Furthermore, the subspace 16 is connected via an opening 31 to an equalization space 32, which in turn is connected via a branch line 34 to the first section 7a of the fuel delivery line 7 on the nozzle side.
- a metering element 18 designed as a cone forms a structural unit with a compensating piston 33, the metering element 18 can be moved in the direction of its axis of rotation perpendicularly to the diaphragm plane into and out of the diaphragm opening and thus determines the remaining passage cross section of the fuel through the metering unit 6 depending on its position , while the compensation piston 33, which is also arranged symmetrically to the axis of rotation, penetrates the opening 31 in a sealing manner.
- the metering element 18 and the compensating piston 33 are connected to an axis 19 and are mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner in two bearings 20 of the metering unit 6.
- the throttle body 11 is connected to the free end of the axis 19 in a rotationally symmetrical manner with respect to the metering element 18. Because of the positive connection, the movements of the throttle body 11, the metering element 18 and the compensating piston 33 are coupled.
- the axial path of the axis 19 and thus the path of the throttle body 11, metering element 18 and compensating piston 33 correspond to the accelerator pedal path indicated by the double arrow A.
- the metering regulator has, inter alia, two fuel spaces 22 and 23 sealed against one another by means of a flexible membrane 21.
- the fuel chamber 22 is divided by a connecting line 24 into two subspaces 22a and 22b, a branch line 25 opening into the subspace 22b is connected behind the system pressure regulator 4 to the fuel delivery line 5, so that part of the fuel delivered by the pump 2 is connected via the branch line 25 is promoted in the fuel chamber 22.
- a return line 26, which leads to tank 1, is connected to subspace 22a of fuel chamber 22.
- a fixed throttle 27 is inserted into the return line 26 in the region of the outflow from the subspace 22a.
- the branch line 25 is led into the subspace 22b and ends at a short distance from the subspace wall opposite the entry area, which is also designed as a flexible membrane 28.
- an electromagnet 29 is arranged, which can be controlled via control electronics 30 and, due to a design of the flexible diaphragm 28 which is responsive to a magnet, when a control current is applied, the diaphragm 28 more or less from the adjacent opening of the Branch line 25 moved away.
- the input of the fuel chamber 22 is thus provided with a movable throttle and the output of this fuel chamber is provided with a fixed throttle 27.
- the first section 7a of the fuel delivery line 7 opens into the fuel chamber 23 and, in accordance with the design of the branch line 25, the second section 7b of the fuel delivery line 7 extends into the fuel chamber 23 until just before the flexible membrane 21.
- a movable throttle is thus likewise formed between this and the facing inflow opening of the second section 7b of the fuel delivery line 7, but the throttling results there due to the movable throttle assigned to the subspace 22b and the different pressures which thus arise in the subspace 22.
- FIG. 2 illustrates the relationships between air mass flow ⁇ a and fuel mass flow ⁇ s determined in the experiment as a function of the pressure PL in the narrowest cross section of the nozzle 9 for the supercritical and subcritical flow state.
- the reduction in the fuel mass flow ⁇ B takes place via the control electronics 30, into which the pressure p L and further the pressure p o and the temperature T o are entered as an essential parameter, the control variable starting from the control electronics 30 activates the electromagnet 29 according to the degree of Control variable attracts the flexible membrane 28 more or less and thus correspondingly increases the passage gap between the open end of the branch line 25 and the membrane 28.
- This causes an increase in the fuel pressure in the fuel chamber 22, so that the flexible membrane 21 is moved towards the open end of the second section 7b of the fuel delivery line 7 and thus the gap between the flexible membrane and this section 7b is reduced, with the result that less fuel can be delivered through the fuel delivery line 7.
- Figure 3 shows that with a standardized representation of the air mass flow and the normalized fuel mass flow required for constant lambda value the scattering band for and becomes narrow for the entire operating range, that is to say for the pressure in the narrowest cross section of the nozzle, that is to say it is only slightly dependent on the position of the throttle body 11.
- For the subcritical flow regime are due to m a ⁇ "'Ma überkrlt.
- Deviations due to the scattering range around the ideal lambda value can be compensated for by the lambda probe, which works together with the control electronics 30.
- the special design of the metering unit 6 with the compensating piston 33 projecting into the compensating chamber 32 and the connection via the branch line 34 to the first section 7a of the fuel delivery line 7 on the nozzle side allows a correction the mixture composition when the load condition of the engine changes.
- the mixture is thinned by the mixture formation device by moving the accelerator pedal in the sense of reducing the amount of mixture to a corresponding movement of the metering element 18 and the compensation piston 33 and the throttle body 11 in Direction of the arrows drawn with solid lines takes place, whereby due to the increasing compensation space 32, a part of the fuel that is usually conveyed into the fuel delivery line 7b is stored in the compensation line 32 via the branch line 34.
- the mixture supplied by the mixture formation device is enriched by the throttle body 11 and the metering element 18 SO with the compensating piston 33 are moved in the opposite direction in accordance with the arrows drawn in broken lines, so that fuel additionally flows into the section 7b of the fuel delivery line 7 via the branch line 34 as a result of the associated reduction in the compensating space 32.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for correcting the mixture composition in the event of a change in the load condition of an internal combustion engine to which a mixture formation device is assigned.
- a pilot control of the fuel-air mixture for the entire operating range of the engine, which deviates as little as possible from the ideal mixture composition from the outset and, in practice, generally takes place by calling up specific data from an engine map determined by tests,
- - An additional control of the pilot-controlled mixture by means of a lambda probe, which brings about a return to the ideal lambda value if the mixture composition deviates from the ideal value.
The less the lambda value of the precontrolled mixture deviates from the ideal lambda value, the more effectively the fuel-air mixture can be controlled by the lambda probe, and the fewer pollutants the exhaust gas contains.
- - when the pressure in the intake manifold is reduced on the intake manifold wall in the form of a fuel film, the fuel evaporates and the fuel-air mixture is enriched after the mixture formation device, ie the lambda value is reduced,
- - If the pressure in the intake manifold increases, deposit fuel on the intake manifold and thus lean the mixture entering the engine, i.e. increase the lambda value.
In the two cases mentioned, the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine deviates to a greater or lesser extent from the lambda value required for the optimal conversion. The faster the engine load changes, the greater the deviation from the optimal lambda value. The change in the intake manifold pressure takes place when the engine changes load, in particular by changing the position of the control element controlling the mixture quantity, for example a throttle valve, a throttle cone, etc.
In a known mixture formation device, the resulting fuel-air mixture, which is formed in the mixture formation element arranged centrally on the intake manifold, deviates only slightly from the ideal composition even without regulation.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device with which the mixture composition can be corrected in a structurally simple manner when the load state of an internal combustion engine changes.
The object is achieved by a device for correcting the mixture composition in the event of a change in the load state of an internal combustion engine to which a mixture formation device is assigned, in that the mixture formation device has a metering unit for the fuel with an inflow-side fuel delivery line and an outflow-side fuel delivery line and is movable in the metering unit The metering unit is arranged, which releases position-dependent variable fuel passage cross-sections in the metering unit, the metering unit being connected via an opening which is sealed by means of a movable compensating element to an equalizing chamber which is connected to the outflow-side fuel delivery line via a branch line, and the metering element and the compensating element in a movement-locking manner are coupled to one another such that a movement of the metering device in the direction of an increased force Material cross section leads to a movement of the compensation element that reduces the compensation space and a movement of the metering element in the direction of a reduced fuel flow cross section leads to a movement of the compensation element that increases the compensation space.
If the regulating member assigned to the mixture formation device and controlling the mixture quantity thus moves in the sense of a reduction in the air throughput, then the pressure in the intake manifold drops. The metering element arranged in the metering unit moves simultaneously with the control element in the sense of a reduction in fuel. The compensating element moves with the metering element and sucks off fuel between the metering element and the regulating element via the branch line functioning as a bypass line. If the compensating element is dimensioned correctly, that is to say depending on the respective engine type, as much fuel is drawn off as is added to the mixture by evaporation from the intake manifold walls before entering the engine. The fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine therefore changes only slightly as a result. However, if the regulating member controlling the mixture quantity moves in the mixture formation device in the sense of increasing the air throughput, then the pressure in the intake manifold increases. The metering device moves simultaneously in the sense of an increase in fuel. The compensating element moves with the metering element and additionally delivers fuel via the branch line into the line between the metering element and the regulating element. This additionally introduced fuel is largely used for the accumulation of fuel on the intake manifold wall and thus for the reinforcement of the fuel film. This in turn changes the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine only slightly.
- when the intake manifold pressure is reduced, that is to say vaporization of fuel from the intake manifold walls, the mixture delivered by the mixture formation device is emaciated,
- - When increasing the intake manifold pressure, that is, a condensation of fuel from the mixture supplied by the mixture formation and accumulation on the intake manifold walls, the mixture supplied by the mixture formation device is enriched.
In both of the aforementioned cases, if the compensation element is dimensioned correctly, the deviation from the fuel-air mixture, which is ideally pilot-controlled by the mixture formation device, is reduced in the event of a sudden change in load, so that the control by the lambda probe is relieved. As a result, the conversion of pollutants during load changes is improved.
Verwendung finden.According to a special embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the compensating element is designed as a compensating piston which penetrates the opening. To achieve the effect according to the invention, however, a membrane, a bellows or the like can also be used instead of a piston.
The metering element and the compensating element advantageously form a structural unit. The metering unit is expediently divided into two subspaces by an orifice having an opening, one of the subspaces being connected to the inflow-side fuel delivery line and the other of the subspaces being connected to the outflow-side fuel delivery line and the metering member more or less passing through the orifice as a function of position, and that of the inflow-side fuel delivery line assigned sub-room is connected to the compensation room.
The metering element is expediently designed as a cone and connected to a control element designed as a rotationally symmetrical throttle body, which can be displaced in a rotationally symmetrical nozzle body and forms a convergent-divergent nozzle with the latter, which opens into the intake manifold of the internal combustion engine, the outflow-side fuel delivery line in or in close to the narrowest cross section opens into the nozzle. This further development of the device according to the invention ensures that the movements of the metering element, control element and compensating element are coupled, which also makes it possible to build this area of the mixture formation device compactly and to arrange it in the immediate vicinity of the fuel injection location.

Luftdurchsatzes ergeben. The
It can be seen from the illustration in FIG. 1 that the metering regulator has, inter alia, two
The
The
Current values relating to the pressure PL of the air in the narrowest cross-section of the
Grundsätzliche Voraussetzung dieser gleichmäßigen Gemischvorsteuerung ist wie oben beschrieben, daß der wirksame Durchtrittsquerschnitt der Blende 15 proportional dem wirksamen Querschnitt der Düse 9 ist.FIG. 2 illustrates the relationships between air mass flow ṁ a and fuel mass flow ṁ s determined in the experiment as a function of the pressure PL in the narrowest cross section of the
If, starting from the described "critical flow state" in the narrowest cross-section of the
Für den unterkritischen Strömungsbereich sind wegen ma< "'ṁaüberkrlt. undFigure 3 illustrates that in the entire supercritical area = 1 and also for constant lambda value = 1. For the subcritical flow regime are due to m a <"'Ma überkrlt. And
Deviations due to the scattering range around the ideal lambda value can be compensated for by the lambda probe, which works together with the
